It's not that the girls who left him chocolate are bad cooks there doing some weird thing I've only seen in anime and don't know the origin of such as putting strands of their hair in the chocolate so that he would eat it.

But it's a common trope and rite of passage for a kid's first day going to school by themselves, taking public transportation if necessary
