Most males use Ore in informal context, its so common that its literally used in a scam "Ore Ore Sagi(Scam)". Meanwhile, while boku is usually for young boys, it can also be used by young women, hence "Bokukko".

You don’t plan to watch Star Wars obi one

Unfortunately I won't be able to watch your content for 2 or 3 months, which bothers me but being to binge watch your reactions is a privilege too. I can tell you'll repeat some iconic lines in animes and I can't wait to hear that.

Nice community, so much positivity on this patreon! Congrats for your daughter's graduation and your interest in Japanese. I started Japanese at school in September, but I wanted to take a step further and learn quicker. Thanks to you I will upload busuu.

What are you using to learn it?

Stevetheiguana

You should try using Washi as your personal pronoun like Tomoe does. LOL!!

Depends in what age group the male is, adult males will quite seldomly use boku. Watashi is the formal and informal way and it is used as such, by both sexes. Lately watakushi is becoming trendy and women will sometimes use atashi which I would class similarly to boku for boys as its use diminished, you mostly hear it in anime from female characters, way too much to be a mirror of reality, ore on the other hand is only really used within friend groups if at all.

You've inspired me man. I've been watching anime since 1994 and have always wanted to learn Japanese so I wouldn't need subtitles, and I'm taking the first step today! I'm black too and can't wait to go to Japan some day and see the look on people's faces when Japanese is coming out of my mouth, haha

Mr Evol

Yes when it's in informal settings men usually use either "ore" or "boku" depending on what they prefer or their personality. One is more outgoing and masculine and used by older men [ore 俺] which is what Luffy uses for instance (if you wanna try to catch it when watching One Piece when he says "I am" you can hear him saying "ore wa") and the other is a bit more reserved but is also masculine [boku 僕]. I'm sure these kinds of specifics will be explained in the course later on as you progress but we are always here to clarify if anything is confusing.

Yeah, males typically would use boku. A common anime trope is for a tomboyish female to use boku. More than a few jokes in anime don't translate well because of that
