I first read scanlations of the manga that bore a more accurate translation of the title which was Don't Bully Me Nagatoro-san. That one change in the title made those first few chapters more palatable. I knew from that what I was going to see, so it was easier to give it a chance to develop. When I saw the localised title I thought people were going to be off-put since "Toy With Me" carries a flirtatious connotation.

2022-07-14 14:42:19 +0000 UTCThe first few episodes are easily the roughest part of the story, which manages to "filter" a lot of people. If you are able to handle the first 3ish then you'll have no problem with the rest. The series quickly becomes less "bullying" and more "playful teasing" & wholesomeness. it just took a few chapters for the author to get it dialled in. Love this series btw. The character growth is really great to see. Super excited for the upcoming season 2!

2022-07-03 22:39:03 +0000 UTCCan’t believe I missed this message the 1st time. For Uzaki, I actually feels that she’s even more childish than Nagatoro. For Nagatoro, she’s a middle school year one girl, which explains her thinking and actions. Whereas for Uzaki, she’s already in University. Whatever she did is too childish for me based on her age. It’s not that I’m bashing Uzaki though as she has her fun moment in the anime, and her Sugoi Dekai 😏 But for Nagatoro, I can see the both of our mc growing in terms of characters. 1st episode senpai and last episode senpai is totally a different person. He can speaks his mind and doesn’t mind getting along with other people by then, and it’s all because of Nagatoro. But for Uzaki, I don’t see any character growth throughout the whole anime at all. In the end, how senpai treated her in episode 1 is almost the same as how he treated her in last episode.

But even you can see in episode 2 her teasing started eased up slightly. That’s because at the end of this episode, when she saw senpai cry, she knew she went overboard. But she still wants to tease him, thus she is testing him and see what kind of teasing he can take. By episode 3 she found the balance point to teasing him and you’ll start to see this anime’s charm. This is really a wholesome anime. At this point of time anyone reading this will not believe it. But trust those of us who stayed throughout the whole series, this anime will end up making you wanting a season 2 because it’s so wholesome, fun and cute.

But over all its very interesting to say the least. Because it does what most shows in this category don't usually do.

It's funny, all the main characters are above 18 and the second season is coming out this fall. I'll put it on the recommended list, but the website always freezes for me.
