If Oden had been a woman she would use female pronouns. She’s not trans like Okiku or anything it’s just she’s trying to pretend she’s a man since the person she respects happened to be a man. And even though the characters are not using male pronouns to address her the subtitles need to use either he or she and just chose to use he since Yamato usually introduces herself as a man

2022-08-13 17:38:47 +0000 UTCNot rly used by characters, since Japanese doesn't have gendered 3rd person pronouns (they only have gendered & neutral 1st person pronouns, but it's not as rigid as in English, since those are merely societal norms, not set in stone as if you couldn't use em as a quirky female/male)
