The theory about Garp joining the marines is very interesting mentioned by tekking101 a long time ago that he wanted to free the world both from bad pirates and free the world from the tyranny of the world government ( as he is a D) from within. Now we are seeing the fruits of his actions in marines like Koby, Aokiji, (may be helmeppo too) being following his ideals (its just a theory though)
