2021-08-11 05:25:21 +0000 UTCAsta is stupid, and he readily admits this. He is uneducated, unsophisticated, boorish, unsubtle, loud, and way to trusting. His idea of a good strategy is usually attack attack attack bleed out. Asta is also incredibly wise. Wisdom and intelligence are not the same thing. There are incredibly intelligent fools and wise idiots. Asta knows what is moral, he knows what is just, and he knows what is fair. He has no deceit within him. More importantly though, Asta understands himself - he doesn't fool himself into believing he's smarter than he is, nor does he get himself caught up in lies, and he usually sees to the heart of the matter. He might not be clever but he knows the right action to take, he might be easy to trick but when he tells you something about you every word is true, correct and a damning indictment of your character or its praise that is accurate and never overblown. Think about it, Asta wants to create a world without prejudices, where everyone is valued - but doesn't want to overthrow the king to do it - he wants to just fix it himself by example. No normal or extraordinary person could do that - but Asta could, because he is a righteous man who fears God and honors him. Not in word (or maybe even in belief) but action. asta would never say so, I doubt he would even rate himself so highly, or understand the concept and the implication. But watch, other shonen heroes can be morally ambiguous, not asta. He's dumb Rock, and he knows it, he admits it, but the wisest man in the world was the man who knew he knew nothing. He's never gonna be a great thinker, but his soul is righteous and he flees from corruption and sin. You tell me if that trade off is so bad, especially when he has good friends to watch his ass and keep him from doing something catastrophically stupid. And unlike Goku he listens...
