yh definitley makes more sense it being doffy

DANIEL PEEDAH

mine is the next big arc with sight

That's so much better, why do Toei gotta make everything more dumb

ERK22

The dad never said anything in manga. The people found out by doffy saying he is going to kill them cause they walked in front of him btw

Nik

And I agree, but while Doffy's father WAS dumb (though I think of it was likely more ignorant than anything) and that he does bear some responsibility for what happened I just don't think that it is fair to put ALL of the responsibility on his shoulders the way Doffy is doing. I am of the belief, as I previously mentioned, that Doffy had ruined what miniscule chance his family had of coexisting with the people of the town, of his father convincing them that they weren't like the Celestial Dragons that they feared and who and ruined so many of their lives, with his public outburst. However Doffy refuses to take any responsibility for it even now, putting all the blame on his father for ruining their lives. That's why I can't find it in myself to spare any pity for Doffy, saving all of it for his brother instead.

This is not black and white. I’ve seen youth in the worst environment be good and the good environments go bad

Rock Lee

There is grey. Lol. I find you both are right. It takes a combination of environment and genetics/personal choice sometimes the gene. If this wasn’t the case out parents would care if we studied, who we hung out with etc. But there isn’t a nurture formula that applies to everyone. We also have Doffys bro in the same environment and I was good. There is nuances. But i do think the father UTTERLY failed because of how incredibly niave he was. Sometimes parents do mostly right and it’s cool. But Doffys father was sooooo dumb. I can’t let him go from responsibility

Rock Lee

Dude was naive lol

Rock Lee

Still to this day I’m tryna figure out what doffy dad was smoking when he made this decision

Kylan goodall

this is the first time laws full name was mentioned.. we only knew trafalgar as his surname before this

I Am Groot

They did already say his name was Trafalgar D. Law. This is all good sauce but Doffy is still a major A-class Greedy Asshole. He's definitely more complex than a lot of other villains up to this point, but that doesn't make me like him as a person lol.

I respectfully disagree. The father made mistakes, there's no denying that, and those mistakes certainly had a hand in making Doffy into something worse than the standard-model Celestial Dragon later in life, but the version we see at the moment of the flashback I would contend is more the product of his environment. It's much like how the child of a loving and supportive God-fearing family might grow up to be a gun-toting gangster or a serial killer. While Rosiante chose to heed his parents' words and follow their example, Doffy opted to ignore his parents and instead emulate the behavior of the Celestial Dragons he'd grown up around up till that point. Of course given time and the absence of the bad influences it is possible that they might have turned him around, but that time vanished along with whatever slim chance the father had of convincing the people that they were not like the Celestials they hated and feared the instant Doffy had his public outburst. Of course they would conclude that Doffy likely learned that behavior from his parents, that his father was simply trying to pull one over on them (probably trying to buy time while he rebuilds his power to lord over them) and they would act to stop them before they could become a threat. In summary, that tragedy is but an extreme example of what can happen when a child believes that they know better than their parents. While the father made a misstep or two, Doffy had a huge hand in his own misfortune and he refuses to see it, and that is the true tragedy.

SonicKing2004

But doffy was a child, it is up to the parents to teach their children and protect them. The father clearly didn't do either, rather he had them learn to live in one world just to throw them into another, and in that new world they lost everything. I put the creation of Doffy the villain on the father, if he had been smarter none of it would have played out that way, and doffy would just have been another Celestial doing what they do, and not a world hating pirate.

Allram

The father was naive, that much is true, but Doffy is still a monster. The father probably has more in common with Sabo in that he was a genuinely good person in spite of his fellow Celestials around him. I imagine that when someone crossed his path before realizing that he was there that he just waived it off and said that it was fine, and that those people thanked him profusely for his kindness and mercy. Not having experienced life from the other side, and not having witnessed much the ugly side of his fellow Celestials, he probably didn't realize that the people were acting out of fear and relief that he didn't have them shot for their unintended "offense". That and other similar incidents is probably where he got his rose-colored impressions of ordinary humans, and the reason why the other Celestials thought he was such an oddball even before his impulsive decision to leave the "Holy Land" to live as a human. If he had born witness to the darkness within the heart of the stilted society he was born into, if he had gotten the kind of insight that Sabo had prior to his first encounter with Dragon, then surely he would have been more careful with his words and disaster might possibly have been avoided. Doffy, however, didn't even try. His brother Rosiante was well behaved and didn't cause any trouble, but Doffy jumped straight to demanding that someone hand him a gun because someone crossed his path. While the father's thoughtless responses to the questions of his new neighbors might have alerted them to the fact that they used to be Celestial Dragons, I am of the opinion that it was Doffy's fault that the people got the impression that they were undifferent from the rest of their kind, making Doffy just as responsible for what befell them as his father if not more so.

12:00 Yeah, dub Luffy is terrible. The best dub voice has got to be Brook. Even the songs are perfect.

As mentioned in passing, Garp saw Kuzan (former Aokiji) and asked him to join for a senbei and green tea sesh. From Oda's various SBS, we know that Garp took Kuzan under his mentorship, and Kuzan looks up to Garp as his all-time favorite marine officer. We can even seen the shift in his personality in the story: - Kuzan during the Ohara flashback is a hardass yelling at his crew. - 20 years later when we meet him at the beginning of Water 7, he's much more laidback and easygoing, like Garp. This is my personal extrapolation and projection, but I think when Kuzan had gotten back from Ohara where he had to take down his best friend, Saul, and had witnessed Sakazuki (Akainu) take out that evacuation ship, he desperately needed a mentor to talk things through with and figure out where he fits on the wide spectrum of Justice we see in the marines. Garp had been offered the Admiral position many times, but always turned it down because being a Vice-Admiral gives him more freedom to go where he pleases. An Admiral is more directly under the thumb of the world government, and by extension the Celestial Dragons. Similarly, Kuzan also has a mentorship role with Smoker. I like that there's a chain of mentorship between Garp > Kuzan > Smoker.

hurryupmode

It the Celestial Dragons that say eh at the end of their sentences, if you didn’t catch that in the video, and I think Doffy just caught onto that way of speech when he was living in Mariejois.
