Some elements, especially attacks, get lost in translation in the anime where they don't have an explanation. There are several jokes with the Japanese language itself and how they pronounce English in many cases. If you notice, many of Doffy's attacks end with the sound "ito", which means "string" in Japanese. The orange attack is the "overheat" (pronounced "ŌbāhITO" in Japanese). It is a joke on the english word and the japanese pronunciation. The same thing happens with the attack "parasite", which is pronounced "ParasaITO" in japanese When colored strings appear, it is not a visual choice of the anime, but a specific Doffy attack, it's called "GoshikITO" in japanese (translated as "Pentachromatic Strings") and it is a different attack than when he simply uses normal white strings

In One Piece the gags are canon. Where did Garp get the giant cannonball from in W7? It doesn't matter, it was funny and it happened; How did Franky build a brigde in 3 panels? He's a great carpenter. How does Garp hit Luffy? Haki? No, it's the "fist of love", he said himself.

2021-10-31 00:43:46 +0000 UTCThe colorful string is a specific attack from Doffy called Pentachromatic Strings. That's one of the only attacks that's colorful. You're right about the animation team tho, as Doffy has used this attack before but the animators made the colors more low key before. Now it pops out a lot more.
