One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that, according to what I read at the time, the style change was deliberate. The new studio was told to change the art to match what is in the light novels and manga. The original art style (which I agree was more to my liking) was "wrong" on that sense.

2021-12-16 03:59:08 +0000 UTCForgot to mention this earlier but for this season since the new studio is trying to be as faithful to the source material as possible you are gonna see alot of random flashbacks that havent been in the past seasons. Those flashbacks are references to portions of the light novel story that were skipped in previous seasons but are still important to the main storyline. When Elsha said the Boob Dragon Song broke through Juggernaut Drive she was referring to events that happened in Episode 0 by the way. In the original story It wasnt Rias who made Issei snap out of Juggernaut Drive it was listening to the Boob Dragon Song that broke him out of it for instance when issei said the Four Devil Kings were in "sentai" outfits that was a reference to when all 4 of the Devil Kings dressed up as Power Rangers and tested him to see if he could be a proper husband for Rias. It was a ritual that every person who might marry into the gremory family has to do even tho Issei wasnt aware of the purpose for it. They called themselves the "Satan Rangers" which is what he was talking about. It was a side story in the novel.

I dont know if you will watch it on your own time, so i dont want to spoiler it. Its a nice episode, with the best song in the series. Edit: Saji is the Boy on the other team, with the sacred gear of Vitra. But you will get it in the next few episodes i guess.

2021-11-28 04:27:39 +0000 UTCI think you guys are right in your discussion, a lot of it is personal preference as well to a degree. I think instead of being more generalists in the art style, the new art style is more suited towards action and the animation itself. Like the fight in the forest in this episode looked super smooth and fluid, more than the fighting in the old art style, at least imo. So its one of those things where if you have this really detailed art that you want perfect, its hard to move them well vs more simple art you can draw moving very quickly in a lot of positions. But yeah, if we are talking purely how everything looks while not in motion I think the old designs are probably a bit better

Also, what's your thoughts on Azazel I think he looks cool or original still. Agree with the style change being weird at first though totally.
