To be far he does the classic lying thing in shows, where they start saying the truth then quickly reiterate. "Thanks, he learned- WILL learn it from you." His dad could have easily just invented the technique

He didn't believe that he could be faster than his idol Barry. At his best I'm pretty sure Wally is actually the fastest Flash.
