Japanese people often make jokes about fat people because fat people are very rare in Japan, since the cost of meat is high over there. If you're fat past a certain weight, I heard you can't even buy decent clothes in Japan.

2021-12-26 04:08:50 +0000 UTCAbout the land lady's picture, I don't know if you'd consider it a spoiler or not, so consider if you want to read further, the anime doesn't really cover it, and the novels really don't go into explaining it very well, but she invokes a strong negative reaction in the demons, In the episode where they first meet her, Ashiya does make a comment about "it speaks?" referring to her, they don't really see her as human. Even in her normal dress where she's mostly covered, she repulses them, and seeing so much of her uncovered makes it even worse. I won't go into why she has that effect in case they cover that in a future season.
