I see it as Eren now is the Eren of old. In other words he never changed. Granted he grew up but those rash actions, impulses of fighting for something and will do anything to attain it good or bad, that Eren has always been there. It's us viewers who changed how we see Eren. Eren was never free. He will be forever bound to his nature. And that nature is to fight for what he thinks is inherited freedom. Young Eren vows to kill all titans because to his eyes then they were the cause of his freedom being taken away via living inside the wall. And now the whole world threatening Paradis. Only difference now is him doing what he does now is up to us viewers to say wether it's ethical for everyone caught up in it. Eren is a protagonist and a antagonist in this story which is done by isayama for us to decide how we see Eren but he (Eren) has always been constant from start to finish. (There are also other sources outside the manga that isayama stated is key to really understanding who Eren is which sucks for anime only watchers)

Yesss yessss. Yesss. There are people who watch to see that you understand and be fair and neutral. They also got favorite characters split among many sides. So it’s very easy to piss off 25%-75% of fans at any given time lol. Paradise, Yeagerist, Marley, Marley Eldians

Eren Yeager character development in this show has been great I agree. He went from a whiny/angsty/hot headed boy to a man with a plan/conviction. Now he is operating from a standpoint of accomplishing his plan - not necessarily out of anger/rage - reading between the lines he even says to Reiner, don't worry Reiner we're the same I understand, but it is what it is now... Whether Eren’s plan is a good plan or not is yet to be seen. He has executed on the following so far (1) He fucked up Marley’s military so they couldn’t strike back for a while – keep in mind they were planning for a Paradise invasion yet again – (2) Take over Paradise leadership positions. All we know is his next step is to link up with Zeke, from there we don’t know what’s going to happen next. Innocent lives have been lost, he has what on the outside looking in done his friends “dirty” (or perhaps he is protecting them?), but we don’t know his endgame. It looks like for Eren the end justifies the means. We’ll have to see what that end is.

I disagree with "keep the same energy" comments too, that's like choosing a side and expecting the opponent to have the same feelings about your comrades. I think what it boils down to is they want you to stay neutral/objective at all times, which makes for a boring reaction IMO.
