So, why would be call her in an outside location over his room. Because he wanted someone to over hear what he was saying. You have to look at everything as a plan . Why would someone do X when y is the better choice. Well this is what I'm thinking be from how I see this show its best for her if they think she's out of the picture. That why they didn't show his face on that call.
