We don't know if Reg is actually a Human or not, since he does look kinda like a cyborg to me at least, as one of the theories is that Made in Abyss is basically a post-apocalypse tagged series on some level, maybe of sci-fi genre potentially, which would explain the Relics, Reg & the Interference Units etc, if we can assume that the Golden City is an expy of some type of the most popular IRL one, i.e Atlantis. Like that time-dilation field surrounding the Abyss can't possibly be natural, where each layer has a slightly slower time than the surface, the deeper you go (I like to presume that it's basically something like *haha black hole generator go brrr* at the center of the Abyss, which explains the time dilation happening the closer you get to the center. Of course it could just be an energy field that generates time dilation without actually utilizing black holes, which would explain the Curses, if the barrier is meant as a defensive mechanism by w/e is at the center of the world). I mean it explains why Reg has reproductive organs, a machine has no need for those, but it's all explained if Reg is a cyborg, perhaps w/ even the organic bits modified via genetic engineering, hence why they are so durable, albeit not as durable as the metal bits of his are (the weakest bit being the stomach area, especially the belly button. Once again, a machine has no need for a belly button, so should be a live birth or w/e, since test tube babies wouldn't have one either, due to no umbilical cord to connect to mom and all that). Would make sense you'd need to cyborgize your population, if you wanted to live at the center of the Abyss without dying the moment you go up like 8 meters or w/e. 'member when Irumyuui said that the inhabitants of the Golden City have tattoo lines on their bodies (which the ooga boogas at the surface imitate, so Golden City inhabitants must sometimes (maybe once per dozens of generations or something like that, realistically speaking) go to the surface for w/e reasons (perhaps to check the surface status, since the time really slows down at the lowest levels of the Abyss, so millennia can pass easily after a (relatively) little bit of time). Hell we know that Reg could easily make the journey, as he did it by S1E1, before he fucked up & used his Incinerator energy & factory reset or some shit like that)? Now look at Reg's torso & head again. Look familiar?

That or maybe the village doctor found out that her ovaries are fucked beyond use due to birth defect or w/e, so she's infertile due to lacking functional ovaries (she did have some color mismatch on her back on left & right flanks when Belaf was inspecting her back, so IDK if it was because of an injury or birth defect)
