2022-12-20 07:04:24 +0000 UTCI think the correct term people used is the grandfather of "modern" Isekai, this means more the Isekai genre of 2007+ years about. Fushigi Yugi is older. You are correct in that Yugi and some others were already Isekai, there is still a lot of good old Isekai animes. "Escaflowne", "Now and Then Here and There" (This is still one of my most favorite isekai from 1999)
