I know I am late on this and you might not see it, but I always took that moment of Rose like having a breakthrough in her swordsmanship, like cutting the guy so perfectly that she was not expecting it and then remembering Cids swordsmanship and comparing it to that. The show likes to sometimes have us arrive at the answer on our own, like with Sherry's last words "I swear I will..." - "have my revenge." etc.
