A week passed and things continued to be eerily functional at the café. It felt, to Logan, like the quiet before a storm. Or maybe he was just a pessimist. He felt like he was always waiting for reporters, lawyers, or police officers to flood the establishment at any moment accusing him of unspeakable perversions.

Of course, the company had lawyers of their own, ones who often assured Logan that all the paperwork and hiring contracts were “completely legitimate,” while sounding truly weirded out even discussing it by phone with him.

Yet Logan still felt paranoid that he would be getting into trouble, at some point. He tried not to allow his uneasiness to take over his decision-making.

The staff was doing well, at least. Toni was always eating a lot these days. Eating like a pig. Sarah would smile encouragingly, clearly satisfied with the obvious way that Toni was trying to stuff her belly and make it larger; large enough to get her that $5,000 bonus.

Toni’s due date had already come and passed. She was always flushed or breathless, her large at-term belly starting to strain the maternity pieces she wore to work.

She must have been a couple days overdue by then. And as purposefully as she was eating, she indeed was putting on weight. Logan could see it in her hips and backside, as well as in her chest and shoulders. He wasn’t sure that her belly was growing the way she wanted it to, but she still looked quite nice. Plump, feminine, and ripe.

She would take frequent bathroom breaks, sometimes dragging Lucy with her. Logan suspected they were doing measurements: seeing how close they were to qualifying for the money. Sarah’s manipulation had been faultless, really. Now the two servers wanted to push their bodies toward getting as big as possible. Toni showed no concern about being overdue. Her primary focus was putting on weight.

And every time Toni went back to Sarah to check her official measurements, the answer was always the same:

“Oh, you’re so close. Just a couple more centimeters!” Sarah would say.

Which seemed terribly convenient. Logan didn’t think Sarah was particularly good at measuring things.

“We’re heading out, Mia,” Logan called to the barista one afternoon, Kat and Sarah standing by the door with him.

Mia offered a thumbs-up, hardly looking up from the register. After a couple weeks on the human dairy pill supplements, Mia was really blooming. It seemed strange, how rapid the treatment was working. Mia now had a pair of round DDs on her chest, stretching out her shirts. A bit of a tomboy, Mia hardly seemed to know what to do with them. Sometimes she would stare down at her cleavage in amazement or scratch one tit distractedly while taking an order. She was only just starting to notice the way the customers gazed at the cheerful mounds, which made her sheepish and…increasingly bemused.

God, this whole thing is insanity. Logan sighed as he walked outside, holding the door for his two female colleagues. Sarah was smiling even through her awkward waddle. Kat looked like she might be sick.

“Ready?” Logan said, unenthusiastically.

It was time to meet with the overseers.

-

It was an “informal” meeting about the status and future of the café. A sort of progress-report. Logan knew that it was largely about determining whether to keep the café open or to shut its doors.

It was only Sarah’s second time visiting the corporate offices, and everyone’s shock, by then, had given way to derisive attitudes.

“Moooo…” someone intoned, causing others to chuckle. Logan, Kat, and Sarah were standing in front of a large rectangular table where a dozen executives sat around peering at them in amusement.

Sarah did not acknowledge the mockery. She was wearing a tight pink dress, her massive belly making her look as though she was past-due with quints by then. The mass was huge on Sarah’s narrow body, and she smiled brightly despite the visible shudders of the swell. She was breathing deeply, but not panting. Her orb rose and fell with these breaths, or maybe on its own.

Kat was standing slightly behind Logan and Sarah’s shoulders, back to wearing layers of clothing as she tried to appear as inconspicuous as possible. She looked terribly uneasy with the way her colleagues were treating Sarah, like she feared it was the way they would treat her once they found out about her own pregnancy.

Logan was honestly puzzled that no one at the corporate offices had noticed that Kat was pregnant by now. With all the eating she was doing lately, she looked as though she could have been seven months along. Of course, at present, she was covered up, her clothing softening the prominence of her belly. Additionally, Sarah’s presence naturally drew everyone’s attention. No one was noticing Kat at that moment.

“Well, the numbers are impressive,” muttered Ike, who was seated at the head of the table to face them. He appeared to be the only person who wasn’t snickering. Ike flipped through some of the papers lying in front of him on the table. “In only a couple of weeks, the café went from hemorrhaging money to breaking even.”

“Oh, you must look at the updated draft,” Sarah piped in brightly. “We’ve more than broken even. You’ll find that profits just this month have been quite substantial.”

Ike hummed in approval as he continued to peruse the forms. Of course, if he analyzed it with any real depth, he might have noticed some of the bizarre stuff going on at the establishment.

“There’s been an 80% growth in patronage just since Sarah came on, and it’s only increasing,” Logan added, trying not to impulsively gaze at the way Sarah was rubbing her orb.

“Yes, and if the café stays on course and sticks to the Oho’s company standards, there is no reason it shouldn’t th…thrive,” Sarah said, her smile twitching a bit as her eyebrows furrowed. She kneaded her belly with the heels of both hands, as though to soothe the babies packed inside.

There was a momentary pause as Ike appraised her, absently. Then Ike lightly shook himself, clearing his throat. “I’m impressed, Miss Sao.”

“This is some witchcraft,” someone muttered, to a new bout of chuckles.

“Enough with the jokes. I don’t need HR on my ass like they were at the company retreat,” Ike muttered.

Someone snorted loudly, several others giggling. Logan was used to the fratty antics. The only time people behaved was when old man Roger came through.

“Sarah, how old are you?” Johnson asked.

“Nineteen,” Sarah responded comfortably.

Someone gave a low whistle.

“Damn,” Pryce muttered.

“What beastly specimen is responsible for that?” Roth said, as he gave a pointed look at Sarah’s inflated abdomen.

A new round of chuckles. Things were rapidly deteriorating.

“Lolo, one of yours?” someone jibed.

Logan cleared his throat, awkwardly shuffling some of the papers in his hands.

“My man!” Johnson said.

“What the hell went down in Asia?”

“Enough with the jokes,” Logan said. He really didn’t want Human Resources riding him either. “You’re making Miss Sao uncomfortable.”

Sarah just looked amused.

“Kitty’s quiet today,” Ike noted, peering at Kat.

Kat flushed. “I’m on my monthly,” she deadpanned, throwing him a rude hand gesture.

The room burst into cackles.

“She’s on something,” Rodriguez whispered.

“Dipping into the inventory?” said someone else.

“Moving on,” Ike called emphatically. “The numbers are looking good. The three of you have really turned this dumpster fire around. We can even look into franchising if things hold stable over the next couple months.”

“Can I get you a chair?” Logan asked Sarah quietly. The meeting was running longer than he had expected.

“I’m fine,” Sarah whispered back, even though she couldn’t have been fine, not at her size. She was arching somewhat against the weight of her midsection.

“That being said…” Ike went on. “The entrepreneurial skills portrayed by Logan and Kat leave a lot to be desired. You two have a teenager cleaning up your mess. Maybe we should just fire your asses and hire mega-mom over here.” A pause. “Sorry,” Ike added, to Sarah.

Sarah didn’t react, she just gave a little snort. Logan and Kat stood there uncomfortable and wordless as more attention shifted to them.

“Kat, you’re not participating in this meeting at all. I guess you don’t have shit to say for yourself,” Ike said wryly, enjoying her discomfort.

Kat responded with a tense grin. “Well, we’ve learned a lot these past few weeks,” she practically seethed.

“I fucking hope you learned something. The only one of you three who seems to have any competence at all is Sarah. And she doesn’t even work here. I’m tempted to keep her.”

“Hire the teen about to pop out a fucking litter. She takes half a year paid maternity leave then disappears. Good idea, boss,” Pryce drawled sarcastically. “No offense,” he added to Sarah, as though belated apologies could negate all the rude remarks.

“I’m flattered Mr. Turner, but Oho’s franchise in Asia has my heart,” Sarah said, placing her hand on her chest.

People heckled, ridiculously.

“You sure?” Ike said with a playful smile. Logan could hardly believe how Sarah was charming the room of crass executives. “My colleagues over here–” he motioned to Kat and Logan, “—are fucking useless. You’ve been carrying their asses the past couple weeks. Maybe you should consider coming on board full-time; save us future headaches.”

“No, I can’t imagine it would be very lucrative for me,” Sarah responded, her grin sharp. “Mr. Oharo’s company is small and intimate, but he can buy this one several times over. Occasionally he does purchase Western corporations so he can grind them down to their foundations but still use their names. He has looked at Boddims a few times, but his feelings remain neutral.”

The room had fallen silent, everyone staring at Sarah as though she was Roger himself, their CEO, shuffling in at bottom-speed with his sparkling new hip replacement.

It took a while before Ike regained his composure. “Right,” he managed awkwardly, looking down at his papers.

The other executives at the table had become similarly reticent.

“Well,” Logan said. “If there’s nothing else?” He was already headed for the door.

-

Sarah suggested they stop at a patisserie, just the three of them, so that they could discuss business a bit more in privacy.

While Logan and Sarah sat at a table with tea and pastries, Kat was still at the counter ordering. She had doffed the two amorphous sweaters she had been wearing.

Her blouse was straining, too-tight on her growing body. She absently tugged it down as she continued to make her order, her breasts looking round and plump, nipples bulging prominently in the thin material, as she wasn’t wearing a bra.

She just kept talking and pointing at food items in the display. It was evident that Kat had grown bigger than he had realized. Perhaps she’d had another growth spurt or two (or three). She looked as though she was almost at term, even though she wasn’t nearly. No way.

But with all of Sarah’s recent badgering and forcing food on her, in addition to those outrageous milkshakes Kat was made to choke down, it shouldn’t have been very surprising that Kat was blowing up.

Oddly, Kat didn’t seem to have noticed the significance of her size, not when Sarah was around, flaunting her body at all times while looking like she had a beach ball attached to her torso. Relatively speaking, Kat was tiny. But once Sarah left, that would change, and perhaps then Kat would notice just how insane her own condition was.

“How far along is she?” Sarah inquired.

“About four,” Logan responded thoughtlessly. “I mean, I think she mentioned…” He trailed off as he thought more about it, his mouth going dry just from the awareness that Kat was so much bigger than she should have been at her stage. He wondered just how many she was carrying.

Sarah gave a thoughtful frown. “Poor thing’s malnourished.”

Logan’s eyebrows shot up.

“I just wish Kat would properly eat like she should. Well, at least the appetite enhancers have finally started working. I mixed some into her canister of decaf back at the office. So she should have a steady supply for another month or two. And of course, by the time it runs out, her stomach will have a much larger capacity and the hormones and hunger will have kicked in so…”

Logan’s mind was reeling as he tried to process Sarah’s remarks.

“Kat is special,” Sarah went on. Sarah's huge dome of belly was squashed on her lap, pressing into the table edge as she stroked it idly with her fingers. “She has more potential than me, or Kim, or anyone else. Mr. Oharo said it himself. Even I can see it. Kat…she’s special…mghhhhhh…” Sarah hummed as she shifted in her seat, trying to somehow get more comfortable beneath her belly full of babies. She was just so big, so fertile. Logan couldn’t imagine there was much truth to what she was saying. There was no way that Kat could ever be as…

He gulped.

“Take — care of her,” Sarah managed. “You have to help Kat. You have to show her.”

Logan’s vision was tunneling, his gaze locked on Sarah’s dewy face.

“Kat has to be part of this. It’s the only way to succeed, and the p-payoff — fuhhhh…” Sarah clutched her mass as it lurched, visibly.

Kat returned, carrying a huge tray of food, a take-out bag hooked to her elbow. She gave Sarah an uncomfortable look as she sat down. Logan stared at her mountain of pastries and sandwiches which seemed like enough food to feed a basketball team.

Kat blushed under the scrutiny. “I didn’t have lunch,” she grumbled, though Logan knew that it was an objective lie. Kat had stuffed down the contents of a huge container of pasta in the car earlier. “And I’m taking some home,” Kat added, feebly.

Sarah quirked her lips in weary amusement. “I should head out. I have a flight in the morning.”

“You’re leaving?” Logan said in surprise.

Sarah nodded. “Yes. I just wanted to make sure things went well with Mr. Turner’s review. But I do have to go. Mr. Oharo needs me.”

Logan caught Sarah’s hand before she could lift her phone to order a car. “I’ll take you back to your hotel,” he offered.
