The Midnight Rider - Morning After

Yesterday I tried to update my installation of DAZ Studio to the latest 4.20 version only to find out that my prehistoric version of Octane Render plug-in, that I'm using for all my works, does no longer work with this version of DAZ anymore.

Fortunately, I made a backup of the previous version I was using before the attempted update and rolled back to it.

To see that everything works as it should I then made this "Part 2" image, featuring the Midnight Rider together with her newest trophy to be permanently added to her ever growing collection.

I have a caption in mind for this image as well, but the idea is kind of more explicit so if I get myself to actually writing it, I will probably post it in the PDF format (probably with the part 1 added to it for consistency) instead of the usual "plain text".

Still, the incompatibility of my old Octane plugin with the new DAZ is a bummer... :(

That assumption would mean that others would have to reach it first. Which is not really necessary as they get transported there by the Midnight Rider, requiring them to take absolutely no action on their part whatsoever... :)

But what if it's a Red Herring? It's labeled as Do Gooders so others get trapped? Lol.

Alternatives to DAZ? Probably not as during all those past years I did really spent a lot for resources and such. Alternatives for Octane? Probably just switching to the built in iRay engine but not only I never used it, so I would be really learning it all over again, but it uses the same and totally illogical material and most importantly light definitions that were the main reason why I switched to Octane. Also iRay has no support for network rendering whatsoever, so that would be a huge productivity blocker as well...

MBirdCZ

That sucks. Are there alternatives you could use? Might have to learn new software but at least you could have up to date stuff.

I think that the sign kind of answers that question... :)

That is the catch. The version of Octane I'm using is the last version that was available under the "pay to own" model. Since then, Octane is now available as a subscription (500 EUR per year for main workstation plus 108 EUR yearly per each network render node (so in my case x2)). Or as "pay to own" for 700 EUR and then 200 EUR each following year for "maintenance extension" (basically updates) and as this license does not mention render nodes, then I assume in this case it would be x3. However, the biggest issue is the DAZ Studio Octane plugin which at the moment is basically in the category of "abandon-ware" where no real developer is actually actively working on it. No new features are being added and all new versions of the plugin (for years now) basically either just remove features as there were bugs and instead of fixing those they simply removed the feature altogether or are just recompiles of the plugin so it can use the new Octane Render libraries - unfortunately without the ability to use the new features in those libraries...

Your captions are great! I kinda want to see who... what's inside the vault. ^_^

Senseiwoo

How much to upgrade octane too?

Shaun Kelly

Thank you! Then again, if it got the wheels of your own imagination kicking into a high gear, then perhaps no caption from me is even needed anymore... =)

I love your captions!! And my imagination is in overdrive looking at this one
