Star Trek: The Original Series - "The Return of the Archons" Full Reaction!

I loved your reaction. This episode has always held a certain appeal for me, I think due to my parents thinking it was too risque for me to watch. I think if my mom had seen you in that minidress she would have realized how amazing you looked and that the episode was comparatively tame. So I have to thank you twice. One for providing an excellent reaction and again for proving my mother wrong. And a third thank you for being so damned pretty in that red dress.

Oh no :(

Another one in the meh column for me. Not a lot of critiques to be made other than the ones that I've given for other episodes that I put into that category, some ups, a fair few downs, some good ideas hampered by what feels like some rather slapdash writing. The good news, as always subjective and just my personal opinion, is that there is some real banger stuff right around the corner.

I'll try to keep up the pace :D

I see, thanks :)

Hmm... Interesting you bring up the Prime Objective when thinking about the episode I just watched and will post here next. Though I was unsure whether the people that the Enterprise visited were human or otherwise. I will be curious to hear everyone's thoughts on that one.

That would make sense

For what reason?

It isn’t said but it’s implied that Tula was raped that’s why she was in shock, probably by Bilar or multiple

Michael Matthews

Terrible episode.

How about "Landru" reboots at 6:00pm and it takes the rest of the night to come back on line. Over the years the people took it as an opportunity to run out have a few drinks and raise a little hell. Wonder if Landru got taken over by his own commputer? He either thought it was running perfectly or if it needed a firmare upgrade the computer wouldn't let him. BTW in the animated Star Trek "Lower Decks" we revisit the planet 100 years later from Spock and Kirk's time.

The festival was to release the people's restrained energy in controlled intervals. Otherwise the people would probably more easily throw off the control. It is an interesting social commentary on how societies really are controlled.

I admit this is not one of my favorite episodes. Classic Trek, yes, as other people have mentioned. Confusing plot and slow plodding pace hurt it quite a bit for me, though. Still, I feel like I understand the episode a bit better now as an adult to when I was a kid. I wonder if some of the concepts behind the Borg came from this episode -- one of many and all that. However, I'm sure that's a common enough idea from fiction going way back. I agree with the other poster, this is the first time the Prime Directive has been mentioned, although the scope and meaning of it has changed.....like a lot of Star Trek stuff, it was thrown in to handle a specific need and then either forgotten about or used as needed later on. But the Prime Directive is arguably THE most important concept in all of Star Trek, that is behind just about every episode and movie. In it's most basic explanation, the Prime Directive states that the Federation will not interfere with, or change, the society of another race. Mistakes were made in the past where that was tried, and thus the policy came into place to prevent future mistakes. And I had the same questions you did as you talked about at the end Bunny, which is another reason this doesn't rank super high with me. I like things explained and laid out more clearly.

This is about as classic Trek as it gets lol. Alien planet with a pre-modern human culture. Conflict of individual vs. society. Man vs. Machine. Kirk outsmarting an AI to death. And I do believe this is the first mention of the Prime Directive in the entire Trek-verse. BTW, I'm thrilled that you're moving at such a pace. Makes my week to eat my lunch while watching your reactions. One of my favorite episodes.

The transporter can't make clothing itself, it can only transport what's already there. The landing party has to adopt the attire of the native civilization as part of the prime directive, not to interfere with or affect a culture's natural development.
