Thanks to all those who have stuck around and continue to support my efforts. You are beyond appreciated, thank you so much!
So I need to start with a bit of a story. In general, I try to keep a lot of my...personal life affairs out of my posts. The only thing I'm generally forced to talk about when doing these update journals is my health because it impacts my workflow and output. Technically speaking I'm disabled. I have a nervous system disorder called POTS that makes basic everyday activities really difficult to do without the risk of passing out. This is because the condition prevents the veins in my body from contracting when I sit or stand up, which makes my heart have to exert itself twice as hard to get blood pumped to the upper portion of my body. So basically whenever I stand up my heartbeat goes through the roof, and activities as simple as going up and down stairs are enough to get me gasping for air as though I'm 600 pounds despite being 180 and lanky. Pretty much all sitting and standing exertion is like this, and due to gasping and the blood pressure I risk passing out a lot...and have before.
With that said, my condition is not the reason I'm writing this up, and certainly not the reason I'm willing to go into more personal life and family details. I currently take care of my elderly mother. She's 73 years old and is disabled. She has significant mobility problems which have only worsened over the years, and recently we reached a breaking point in that regard. Despite our best efforts with doing daily physical therapy exercises and other such things to strengthen her legs, her ability to move about has still been deteriorating. Her mobility issues are interfering with keeping doctors' appointments, which is only making things worse for her. When coming home from her most recent doctors appointment, which was a massive struggle in and of itself, I tried to help my mother get back up the stairs. However, for the first time ever she failed to make it up. I tried my best to help her, but with my own conditions I couldn't give her the adequate lift and support to get back up and climb the remaining stairs.
Eventually, we had to call 911 just to have an officer come and get her the rest of the way up, and while the immediate situation was solved, we faced a massive new problem. My mom was no longer capable of getting up and down the stairs, and I couldn't help her either. Essentially she'd be trapped in the house, with no way of getting her to doctors appointments or anything else unless we called 911 every time. So we had a long discussion and decided to look into installing a stair lifter. Basically for those unfamiliar it's one of those chairs on a powered rail that you ride up and down the stairs if you have mobility issues. So we had someone come in and do an estimate, and well...the price point was steep, real steep.
What's worse of course is, being in the US, there's next to no coverage for this sort of thing. Even the agent who advised on installing the lift admitted that insurance covers these things about 1% of the time, and this was confirmed by my mom's medicare agent. Apparently, medical stair lifts are pretty much always seen as unnecessary regardless of circumstances. So we were going to have to pay out of pocket for the full installation, which is a whopping 6k. Despite the cost, we knew we had to pay it, and confirming with my Mom that I would find any way I could to cover this cost made her break down in tears. The prospect to her of having the freedom to access both floors of the house, to make her doctor's appointments, maybe even get out to experience some leisure time outside left her totally overjoyed. On top of that it offered us peace of mind that if god forbid there was another incident like the housefire two years ago, the lift has a battery that allows for 10-12 uses should the power fail.
So now I'm stuck at this impasse, trying to figure out how to adequately make up the money to get this thing installed promptly so she can actually start making her doctor's appointments. Thanks to doing some degree of saving for emergencies, I've been able to cover half without an issue, but the other 3k is going to be a struggle. So naturally, I'm kind of...shifting priorities a bit. Firstly, commissions are still open, and I'm going to be trying to keep on top of them the best I can despite my health still being a bit dodgy. Secondly, I'm having a bit of a fire sale on stickers. Basically, any of the stickers I've already put out will now be 3 dollars each, and will remain that for the foreseeable future. (Stickers are in my merch folder in my Gallery, DM for orders.) and lastly...and I really lament having to do this...because I never wanted to have to do this again, but I'll be starting a gofundme to help make up the funds.
I hated to use it before, and I hate to have to go to it again, but it's one of the few options I have at my disposal, and it's really the only other thing I can think to do. So please, consider checking out the gofundme linked below, and help give my Mom an important piece of her life back.

Now...well...I guess I should update stuff on the art front. Expect a new chapter of "The Family Vulpes" this week. I'm also going to be working on a Christmas pic featuring my camel girl Miral, and I'll be aiming to make that a print as well, as I haven't started selling prints yet and well...now is certainly a good time to start. I've also got my "Summer Art Pack" on Gumroad for those who haven't checked it out. I'm going to be lowering the price to three dollars after I post this to move more units since it's well past summer and I need the funds. And for those that buy the pack, if any of you are interested in prints of those as well, we can get that worked out.
I have to do some chapter write ups for the next few chapters of The Family Vulpes, and I've got another page of "Savage Love" and Burrowed to get working on, which I'll ideally have at least started by the end of the month. Lastly, gonna promote the patreon for non patreon members. 1 dollar get's you base-level access to WIPs, Art a month before public release, timelapse commentary, etc...5 dollars gets you access to the exclusive discord where we do preliminary work for polls that feature on Patreon, access to voice chat during my streams, multiplayer gaming with me, and various other perks.
So yeah, that's about all I've got. If you can find it in your heart to spare a bit for my mom's chair lift, every little bit helps. will be shooting for 3k on the gofundme, but if we go over it'll go to making up the lost emergency fund spending so that we're prepared should another emergency arise. Thanks to everyone for even reading this, and thanks to you Patreon Backers especially, I really appreciate it.
The Gofundme again.
