I highly suggest you to read the Darth Revan (nice short extract of the most important events) and quite related - the Darth Bane trilogy. After you finish with KotOR ofc., as there would be spoilers. I was really surprised and enjoyed these more than I expected. There is good explanation on why the danger is so relatable to the Revenge of the Sith and both of these Darth stories are key to the whole 3 thousand years of sith shenanigans.
