yeah ewww this teacher still makes me angry 😠

Fabi

It's kinda weird how the teacher thought a TEENAGER was into him. Like bro, firstly, why are you thinking a teenager is into you when you're an adult? Secondly, you clearly saw him with his boyfriend so why would he want you?

Joanna -_-

Fabi’s hair may need its own reaction Chanel.

Loving how the hair is turning out, Fabi

I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I also grew up religious and while I was never taught outright hate and the worst stereotypes, like the promiscuity, I was taught to feel sorry for them and try to “save” them. By the time I realized that I wasn’t straight, I had already been questioning my religion for years and I had long since stopped looking down on queer folk, so it wasn’t as hard for me to accept. But I knew multiple people who acted just like that teacher did - it felt wrong even then and was part of why I stopped going to church years before I renounced the religion altogether. Unfortunately, I work with people who are still like this teacher and I’m not as out as I want to be - we are a small team and I just want my paycheck and benefits 😂. But the important people know and I will never lie if asked.

HoneyB

yeah, I guess watching BLS and the accepting or normalising queer friendly world they create in them, got me out of touch with reality 😆 I'm actually glad they're also addressing real issues without losing the "cute" vibe.

Fabian Gonzalez

ahhh I did pickup the first 3 manga AGES ago! Need to continue with that at some point hehe

Fabian Gonzalez

hehehe thank you, thank you! AHH yeah the MSP teacher was very punchable hahaha also good point about Akkun! I'm so used to the 'insta-love' thing where it always works at first, so it's refreshing to see something different!

Fabian Gonzalez

thaaaaaanks 👨🏼‍🦳

Fabian Gonzalez

they're friendship is just 🥰 yeah, I think addressing or calling out homophobia in a show is a good way to show people this still happens and show them how nasty it looks!

Fabian Gonzalez

LOL it'll be interesting to see him play the opposite role 😆

Fabian Gonzalez

I completely get you, everything you said is correct, however as someone who grew up in a religious household, as much as I disagree with the teacher right now, I was once him. Of course I am out and proud now, however when I was growing up homophobia was simply ingrained in me. I was never given a real reason why from my parents or church and I didn’t question it for a long time. I actually appreciate that they showed common biases through the teacher, such as many people believing gay people are more promiscuous which was one such justification for the prejudice I heard quite often. I am envious of those who grew up in accepting environments and can’t understand this mindset in the slightest, and I am happy for anyone who is blessed in that way. But for me, I can’t be too hard on this character even if I wanted to because I know exactly what it was like to be in his shoes : / I’m also glad that they showed him opening up in the end because no one is born homophobic, racist etc., it’s something that’s learned and can be unlearned. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk lol.

YSoulMine

Yeah, as others pointed out, Japan can be pretty conservative. But younger Japanese people are trying to change things despite the large elderly, traditional population pushing back. This episode is what makes me think the director is actually concerned about gay people and not just a cute romance - they sent the message that, no, we are not automatically trying to hit on YOU cause we are gay, and yes, we are just like you and finding out we are gay doesn’t change anything you already knew about us.

HoneyB

I learned about the pompadour watching Shaman King XD

Philippe

I haven’t watched it yet, because I know I’ll end up angry and sad... Better to save it for when I’m in a better mood =(

Philippe

It's not a redeemption, but a change of "switch", the start of a new way of seeing things, and that's not usually a fast process. But is a start.

Philippe

First, I’m in love with the hair. Not only the color (white/gray is my favorite), but the hairstyle is top-notch. You look really, really sharp. I think the homophobic bit was handled really well here. It made me angry too, but not nearly as much as that idiotic teacher/counselor in My School President ... I seriously would’ve punched that one. Here, it works as a good trigger to show us some important aspects of Aoki and Ida’s personalities. Hashimoto as a gorilla always cracks me up XD I like that Aida (Akkun) is taking his time to sort out his feelings, and that Hashimoto isn’t defeated by it, instead, she finds new resolve. I really love stories that aren’t just “insta-love.”

Philippe

The hair ate! looks so cool

Jessi

I adore Aoki and Hashimoto's friendship in this show. It's so lovely that they're so supportive and encouraging of each other, and Hashimoto is a character who's brave in her own right when it comes to voicing what she wants! It's just so wholesome to watch two nice, kind characters support each other haha. I'm also glad they addressed homophobia somewhat, although it's a little jarring in the overall cute vibes of the show - but I guess that's what makes it a reality unfortunately!

Layla123

If the homophobic guy annoyed you, take solace in the fact that he was in a very popular BL before this show, called Life, Love on the Line. It's one to add to the list - much more grown-up and serious, but super good. Can't wait for the final two episodes!

Dan Beasley-Harling

I had forgotten about the homophobic teacher guy. I always wonder about different cultures whenever this kind of thing happens in a show. How common is his behaviour in japan, because the characters are really quick to forgive him and his change of heart Is quick. Is it just a case of him not understanding that it's normal because he's never knowingly met a gay person, or seen them represented in popular media. It's hard to make a judgement call on how much to hate him without the wider context. Cause I feel like we're supposed to feel he's redeemed himself, but I don't think he did.

LeCrunchNoir

Fabi, I see you've reacted to movies too in the past and I think it would be really cool if you could react to Paradise of Thorns. It came out before Thailand legalized gay marriage and portrays different forms of inequality. The main actor is Jeff Satur, who played Kim in Kinnporsche. It's a very hard-hitting movie.

Jacqueline Duveau

couldn't roll my eyes any further 🙄 but yeaaah LOOOOVE this show

Fabian Gonzalez

oooh first time hearing of it! Added to the dictionary ✅

Fabian Gonzalez

a tale as old as time.. when straight men think just because your gay it means u like them lol... love this show though.. it's so well done.

sean carter

Busybody is very popular where I come from. "She's a busybody " means she's always in other people's business/ issues

kiara

Homophonic? 😂 I guess that’s someone who doesn’t like gay pronunciations

Timothy Panngam

Yeah, in an otherwise awesome episode the homophonic teacher had my blood boiling 😡

Timothy Panngam

oh I didn't know! That sounded to me like someone who sells their body 😆 haha

Fabian Gonzalez

thanksss! 👨🏼‍🦳 haha

Fabian Gonzalez

You probably already know, but a busy-body is someone who sticks their nose in other people’s business

Timothy Panngam

The platinum blonde is looking fierce Fabi.
