I just love how you're able to create such expressive characters even though the faces are relatively realistic! How did you get so comfortable with that? There's a few creatures that I try to make into characters but then I'm like "oh dang how do I make them emote without looking crazy" haha

Julian

Nice! Yeah, so I basically do that often times because it's a lot easier to compartmentalize things like the forms (light and shadow) and the colours, or at least for me it is xD Doing one after the other in steps just helps to make it a bit easier to not only think about but also execute, otherwise if your doing too many things at once, it's a bit like multitasking. (which can also be a bit more exhausting) Yep! So the values are usually done as a part of the sketching phase, and because of the hatching, it doubles as adding some texture as well. I then create a flat fill later underneath the sketch as a mask for the colours that are added in the next step. Once the colours are added, I merge the sketch onto the colour layer and then paint over everything. ;)

So I finally got around to watching it. I find it interesting that you do values (light and dark) first then apply color. Do you apply color in a second layer? Or right on the same layer?

Ooh! More complex costuming! I'll definitely have to give a watch when I get the chance!
