That is to say, sometimes I don't use any at all, and sometimes I'll need to use quite a few. (For example, if I've never drawn a certain animal before, or it's been a while since I've last drawn it, I'll look some up) Generally though, I do try to draw things without them quite often, not because refs are bad in any way, but because I like to try and work my visual memory a lot, and I think if I don't have to rely on refs as much, it streamlines the process quite a bit. ;)
