More Cypress Sketches and a Horse!

Some more sketching! Lots of expressions this time for Cypress. I feel like he's not very emotive in a lot of the more painted stuff that I do, I dunno if it's because of the personality that I've attributed to him, or what. Sometimes it's good to just let loose and have fun with different personalities. One that I liked in particular from the first page, (The blushing one from the page with just heads) ended up turning into a full page of blushy Cypress! xD So you never know where it just may lead lol

Also have a sketched layout for a possible Cypress reference sheet as well. ;)

Enjoy!!

Ahhh I suspected as such, I always see you doing this at the start of every painting after the sketch and honestly your mind is so powerful, it’s a really efficient way of planning everything. I usually find it so difficult to juggle everything around and have to constantly worry about my values and such staying readable in terms of light and shadow. Incorporating this workflow into my own paintings has been extremely helpful in aiding that, I’m very grateful for the knowledge you share here ty so much Taran 💙

Cole Leo

Efficient!! I hadn't thought of that xD

Taran

Though, for these sketches it's more for just mapping where everything is. If I were to render them, I'd definitely darken everything more than it's at now xD

Taran

Sorry! Totally forgot to answer your question!! xD Yep, and thank you! That's basically it. I'm not only mapping out where all the shadows and highlights will be, but also setting my value range. That way I basically know what my lightest and darkest values will be and they're relation ship to on another.

Taran

Yeah, I got a mirror so I can make faces right by my tablet, rather than having to run to the bathroom and make expressions and them try to remember what my eyebrows did.

Halkyov

He looks a bit tipsy now, this moo drinks lots of grass liqueur!

Rolenzo

Blushing smolder-gaze lol

Taran

Lmao. Yeah, when I finally added a human ref to the side for some comparison, he ended up being slightly taller than I pictured xD But it’s ok, I don’t mind the extra bit of height on him.

Taran

Thanks Isaac! xD

Taran

Thanks Halkyov! yeah totally. Funny how although faces can come in many shapes sizes and proportions, the same principles with expressions can still be applied to each of them, abeit with some tweaks here and there xD

Taran

Aaaa these are so nice Taran! As someone shorter than 6ft I’m officially at prime knee cap-busting height for Cypress, but he’s too lovely for me to ever consider. His evil twin Sserpyc better sleep with one eye open though 👁 Also I think I’ve figured out what you’re doing with your sketches. Is it that you plot down your brightest lights and the shadow area so you can use your sketch as reference for the lighting whilst painting? It’s a noice way of organising if so

Cole Leo

Oh my, Cypress looks more handsome when he get drunk😂

Rolenzo

Your precious boy is even more precious. <3

Big Buck

FINALLY a ref sheet!!!!!! Now to finish Reighli... and Tyson... I need them for study purposes....

DerpyDrake

Oh, this is such a lovely fleshing-out (blushing-out) of Cypress's emotional range! And I also love the horse, of course -:D What a build!

Glim

Hello I very love Cypress forever thx

Isaac DeKing

Your sketches are so good! I've been experimenting myself with doing more expressions on different faces (snouts, normal human faces, etc) and it's an interesting challenge. Makes you think what can transfer right over.
