Progress Report 10-27-2025 (Tons of Achievements work, and a health scare)
Added 2025-10-28 02:50:47 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Before we get into the post proper, I'm afraid I have to apologize again for having a larger-than-intended gap between update posts. This time, I think I have a fairly understandable reason for it though, as I had a pretty major health scare. Those of you who have been around for a while may remember that my father passed away a number of years ago, from stage 4 colorectal cancer. I won't get into detail with my symptoms, but basically, I had some health issues crop up that could have been pointing towards colorectal cancer for myself. Since my father had it, and I've already had various gut issues over the years, there was serious potential for that to be the case. Needless to say I've been pretty fucking terrified, especially with my generally mediocre health and high aptitude for anxiety.
To make a long story short, though, I'm completely fine! It took a lot longer than I would've liked to get appointments and everything lined up, so the past 1-2 months have been nerve-wracking for me, and my work speed has unfortunately suffered (but not ceased for once!) - but I finally had a colonoscopy, and there was nothing serious at all. The symptoms I was experiencing are from mundane, far less terrifying things. The only abnormality they found was a 7mm polyp, which was removed and tested; we just got the results from that back a day or two ago, and it was completely benign, so until further notice, I have a clean bill of colon health! My doctor wants me to come back for another one in 5 years, which I fully intend on doing; even though I'm lucky enough to be fine now, I'm still at risk of developing it eventually, but at least now I know it hasn't been secretly ravaging my innards throughout the years leading up til now.
I'm still kind of reeling from the experience of a cancer scare, but I'm so damn glad I just got the testing over with as soon as it became a possibility. My father might still be around if he had done the same, but he ignored his symptoms until it was way too late, and I didn't want that to happen to me too. The experience of getting a colonoscopy is pretty miserable (specifically the prep - iykyk), but the peace of mind is beyond worth it.
Now that all of that is done, I've been working on settling back into a rhythm with work. I'm considering starting up streams again to try and get back on track, so if that's something that would interest you, lemme know. In the meantime, even though my work has been a bit spotty over the past two months, I HAVE been steadily making progress, most of which has been on the implementation of achievements - so enough with the personal stuff, let's get into the work progress!
First off, here are all of the Daily Updates posted in our Discord since the last progress report:

I've worked on a handful of miscellaneous things, like adding the ability to re-fight bosses, fixing various bugs, and I spent a good week straight on non-CPE work for a personal project, learning more about low poly 3D modeling (which is insanely fun to work with) - but the main thing I've been spending my CPE time on is achievements!

(Some of the achievement icons are censored, so I can post these publicly on Patreon; they won't be censored ingame, unless you have Sexual Content turned off)
So this is the main achievements screen. On the left is a grid of icons, where you select the achievement you want to look at (I'll add a vertical scrollbar once we have enough achievements to need it, it won't be just 25 total), and on the right is information about the achievement and what rewards you'll gain from completing it.
I think I've talked about it before, but for some preface, achievement unlocks will be saved on a global and per-save basis; basically, if you've EVER unlocked an achievement on any save file, you'll already have the rewards for it when you start a new game, but you can still fulfill the achievement requirements to unlock it again - you just won't get any rewards for it). The implementation of this has been quite tricky, especially trying to make sure it won't break when loading old saves, but I've gotten everything to a (seemingly) stable state at the moment.
For the grid, the color of each icon and border acts as a quick indicator of the achievement's unlock status: a gold border means the achievement is fully unlocked; a purple border means the achievement has been earned on a different save file, but not the one you're currently playing; red means the achievement is impossible (for missable achievements, like beating the game on the highest difficulty); and black means it hasn't been unlocked at all yet, but is still possible on your current save. I wanted to make sure information like this is easily visible, especially for missable achievements, so there's no frustrating guesswork.
Oh, I should also mention for anyone as OCD about this as I am - if an achievement is Impossible in your current save, but you HAVE unlocked it in another save, the menu will default to showing that achievement as Unlocked on the grid, so even if some achievement requirements are incompatible with each other, you will still be able to get a sexy fully golden checklist by utilizing multiple saves.

As for the description box, it lists the name of the achievement, along with a description and a progress bar. The description will change depending on the achievement's unlock status; if you've never unlocked it before, it'll be more of a vague hint, and once you've unlocked the achievement it'll give a more direct description. The progress bar will always be visible, and will fill up, change color, and list a number depending on the achievement's requirements.

The rewardbox functions very similarly, with a description and a fancy little box showing an image of the reward. Side note, I love the way the scrolling grid animation turned out :^) If the achievement hasn't been unlocked yet, the description may be less specific, and it may show a hidden icon if the reward is something unique (like color palettes, as seen above), but for generic rewards such as AP they'll always be listed in full detail.
Speaking of AP, I haven't started on implementing this yet so no screenshots, but we're planning to have an Achievements Shop of sorts, where you can spend AP you've earned to unlock specific rewards, like color palettes, cheats, and any other extra goodies we come up with - something like, oh I dunno, the ability to swap Alicia's breast sizes during gameplay (not cutscenes), so BE status becomes normal and vice versa. Stuff like that.

Lastly, we have a popup when an achievement is unlocked - with an accompanying sound effect, of course. I plan on adding a button prompt that can take you to the achievements menu and show you what you just unlocked, as well, though that's not implemented yet.
I should also mention that most of the UI here is still a WIP; Puffernutter is the one that usually handles the UI, but she's been way too busy to be able to work on the game recently, so I've been doing it myself. Expect to see it get improved whenever she has time to!
So that's how the past few months have been going for me, a real mix of good and bad.. well, mostly bad, but it all turned out okay in the end! I'm happy I was able to make any progress at all while dealing with the health issues, though I wish I hadn't slowed down quite so much. I HAVE been doing a lot better than usual in my personal day-to-day life, though, so I'm overall pretty proud of myself for handling this as well as I did. This is the kind of thing that would've thornw me off for a long while previously, but I've recovered from the scare pretty well this time. Progress towards the next update is steady, and even if we're not at the pace I want to reach yet, it's still going to be a lot quicker than the past few updates have been. I can't wait for you guys to see the new H-scenes Orex has been working on; I won't post them yet (mostly because I can't in a public post), but it's a very highly requested trio, and the first of their animations turned out great.
Alright, I think that's finally enough out of me for today. With any luck, I'll ACTUALLY be able to keep to at-least-once-a-month on our progress reports going forward, now that the concerning shit is out of the way! Thank you all so very much for reading, and for being so patient with these late update posts. We'll see you again soon with the next progress report!

2025-12-25 12:56:28 +0000 UTCAs far as scares go, that's extra terrifying. Most scares are quick, then over, but having it drawn out like that sounds awful. I'm glad you're all right.
