What next?

Hey! So, Mat and I have already recorded our next Patreon special (Knuckles Episodes 4-6, as promised) - but we're already looking ahead to future specials to try and not get behind again like we did at the end of last year.

As always, we have some ideas - but they're for you, so we figured we'd ask: anything in particular you're interested in us watching? As always, I make no promises - availability and interest and so on always factor in - but this is at least a good way to put things on our radars!

If you've suggested something before and we haven't done it, please feel free to suggest again - new year, new list!

Late entry. “The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World” anime show.

Ian Raney

Hello - I'm the guy that messaged you a bunch of times for the last, 3 or 4 years or so to watch Gokaiger. While that is my ultimate final quest (and I'm close, I can feel it), I am going to pivot my crusade to something different. I was relistening to some of the ToQger episodes on my commute, I believe it was Birth of the Empress and a statement Michael made really stuck with me "The villains are gonna do something really interesting, and the Power Rangers will also be there to fight a monster." This in particular resonated with me, as I had just finished watching a season I can comfortably describe as "the least Sentai-season of Sentai" in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers, a show that bucks as many trends as it can get away with and my favourite season of the show. My issue becomes the fact you can't really truly understand the madness of the show unless you fully dive into it, there's some crazy stuff in episode 1, but you understand how this stuff goes. My push is for a "clump"-esque special, wherein you watch 5 or so episodes and very loosely go through from the top, and go from there. Maybe bring Lauren on and have to explain... all of it. Anyway, it's just an idea. Keep on keeping on lads.

You guys could watch the ten years later ressha tqger movie

Carlton M Gordon

Little late on this comment, but it would interesting to get you takes on gozyuger, like you did with gavv

Prismatica

Listening to your latest episode I think Star Trek is a great idea. Either watch the movies with Lauren or watch the pilot for every series.

Charles Robinson

Would be interested in hearing your take on Keita Amemiya's 1991 sci-fi/thriller Zeiram. Both Amemiya and Zeiram have strong Tokusatsu associations.

Honestly, my favorite Patreon specials to listen to repeatedly are the ones where you review bad kids movies that are somewhat thematically connected to the season of the show, like when you did Thunderbirds (2004) during Lightspeed Rescue. Unfortunately, I don't really know any bad kids movies about cops, and every Google search for that term either brings up Cop And A Half or the Paul Blart Mall Cop films, and I haven't seen Cop And A Half to know if it's the right kind of bad for the podcast, and the Paul Blarts just seem too tangential to cover. But honestly, after a full season of Sentai I would want the bonus episodes to expand outside that world or Sonic for a bit.

Robert Nance

Oh neat! Well that was a fun watch.

Space Cop Gavan is up on Toei’s YouTube channel. Would be great to check out some older stuff, especially the Metal Heroes series. Janperson also rocks.

Randy Forbister

Honestly any Rider or Sentai would be nice especially Donbrothers and LuPat because it's always great to hear your thoughts on them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNGfGV1NyZM I can't believe this was 9 years ago.

I‘m really not interested in you watching some American movies/tv shows that everyone else is already watching (like Knuckles). So some tokusatsu would be highly appreciated. I‘d be dying to find out what you guys think about DONBROTHERS. So this would be my biggist wish. Greetings from Berlin ;)

Go Go Loser Ranger anime is a must. I’d love to hear your guys take on it

Adam Nichols

I think you’ve mentioned it on the podcast before but Kamen Rider Kuuga and W are both real good and do some unique things within the Tokusatsu genre

Bob

An episode or two of Garo would be interesting to hear about. Just to try a different flavor of toku.

Matthew

if you guys didnt watch Godzilla Minus One highly recommend

joey paxton

Something light

Maggie Wauklyn

To keep on the theme of adapting episodes of Japanese media, maybe Kamen Rider Dragon Knight could be worth a watch. Another toku series that cpuld be fun to look at would be the first two eps of Garo.

Angus McLennan

To suggest a bad thing, I nominate the first two episodes of Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills.

Bishop Jackson

An episode of Donbrothers would be interesting considering that even by the standards of Sentai it's batshit crazy (a character eats dog food... in two separate episodes. To give an example)

peas_and_corn

Godzilla movies and/or The new Power Rangers game “Rita’s Rewind”

Matt

If you're open to trying a game for a bonus episode(s) Chroma Squad is a fun strategy game where you lead a group creating their own sentai show. Similarly there's an anime that just came out called The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World. It's silly fluff, but it's had some funny bits like characters getting damaged by the ranger's explosions when he morphs.
