Jia Changjiang faltered for a brief moment as the system’s notifications echoed in his mind. The next instant, his body reacted instinctively, honed muscle memory taking over.
The battle axe in his hand glowed with an ominous red light under the influence of Grandmaster-At-Arms, exuding an overwhelming aura of bloodlust.
Jia Changjiang’s gaze locked onto Dvalin. The dragon’s movements, once erratic and unpredictable, now unfolded in patterns clear as day.
No elements, no magic, no supernatural power—just raw physicality and weaponry. This was the primal, unyielding combat of a hunter beneath the azure sky.
“It’s coming.”
Jia Changjiang’s grip on his axe tightened as he watched Dvalin circle overhead, its predatory gaze fixed on the group. He could already anticipate the dragon’s next move.
The axe in his hands glowed brighter, pulsating like a beating heart.
This axe, once bathed in the blood of a Shuriman god-warrior, resonated with the energy Jia Changjiang now unleashed, drawing upon its stored might.
“Step back. Dvalin’s going to dive.”
Jia Changjiang spoke without hesitation, slinging the glowing axe onto his shoulder as his body began to brace for impact. His eyes never wavered from the massive figure overhead.
Dvalin’s dive came as predicted, claws and teeth aimed squarely at the group. The dragon’s intent was unmistakable: to tear them apart.
“Jia Changjiang! Don’t engage him head-on!”
Diluc’s warning rang out, but Jia Changjiang stood firm, unmoved.
His eyes gleamed with excitement rather than fear as the wind whipped at his face. He licked his cracked lips, relishing the challenge ahead.
The axe handle felt solid and reassuring in his grip, his fingers never loosening their hold.
As Dvalin’s dive brought it closer, the red glow of the axe grew fiercer, mirroring the fire in Jia Changjiang’s heart.
From a hundred meters, to ninety, to eighty—the distance between them closed rapidly. The dragon instinctively targeted Jia Changjiang, the only one who hadn’t flinched or dodged.
At the last moment, Jia Changjiang moved.
His muscles surged with power, veins bulging like living ropes beneath his skin. Every ounce of stored energy burst forth as he swung the axe with devastating force, channeling his momentum into a single strike.
“This airspace…”
His roar carried across the battlefield as the axe cleaved through the air.
“…is a no-fly zone!!!”
The thunderous clash between dragon and man was heralded by a deafening crack.
“STAY DOWN!!!!”
The axe struck first, crashing into Dvalin’s horn before its jaws could close around him. The impact unleashed a surge of violent energy, forcing the dragon’s massive head to slam into the platform below.
A sickening crack echoed as one of Dvalin’s horns shattered under the blow, the sheer force embedding its head into the ground.
The platform groaned under the weight, a deep scar marking the path of Dvalin’s uncontrolled descent. Jia Changjiang, still holding his axe, skidded backward as the dragon’s momentum pushed him perilously close to the platform’s edge.
The others could only stare in awe, frozen by the sheer power of what they had witnessed.
Lumine’s heart raced as a surge of exhilaration overtook her, an inexplicable thrill at witnessing such raw, primal strength. Even the ever-composed Jean and Diluc stood momentarily speechless.
A lone human had brought a dragon crashing to the ground.
Dvalin roared in pain, its cries reverberating through the storm. Jia Changjiang wasted no time. He leapt onto the dragon’s back, sprinting toward its tail where the remaining poison clot pulsed ominously.
If he didn’t remove it now, the poison would fully integrate with Dvalin’s body. Whether Lumine could cleanse it afterward was uncertain.
With a determined growl, Jia Changjiang reached the poison clot. The malevolent mass seemed alive, pulsating with a sickly rhythm as if resisting his grip.
“Damn thing!”
He didn’t hesitate. Raising his axe high, he swung down, severing the infected flesh and the web of dark veins connecting the poison to Dvalin.
With one final yank, he tore the clot free, holding the grotesque mass aloft.
Dvalin howled in agony, the pain jolting it back to consciousness. The dragon’s tail whipped violently, flinging Jia Changjiang into the air.
Twisting mid-flight, he landed gracefully on the platform, the poison clot still clutched in his hand.
“Lumine!”
He hurled the clot toward her. Lumine caught it effortlessly, her power flaring as the poison began to disintegrate in her grasp.
The dark mass hissed and writhed, dissolving like ice melting in a flame. What remained was a small, pure wisp of Anemo energy—Dvalin’s essence, cleansed of corruption.
The poison that had seeped into Dvalin’s body slowly began to fade under Lumine’s influence.
“It’s working.”
Reassured, Jia Changjiang hefted his axe once more, sparks flying as it scraped against the platform. He turned his gaze back to Dvalin, now struggling to rise.
“You want to take off again?”
His grin returned, fierce and unyielding.
“This airspace…”
Jia Changjiang charged toward the dragon, the axe’s glow reigniting as firelight danced across its blade.
“…is under strict control!!!”
