The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [72]

[Mission completed! Bonus objectives achieved! Mission reward level increased!]

Jia Changjiang examined the bow before him.

The bow’s back gleamed like crimson jade, its curved tips a vibrant green, while its body radiated a fiery red hue. The string shimmered like strands of gold.

It lacked arrows, but Jia Changjiang noticed ancient engravings etched into the bow’s frame—symbols that resonated deeply within him.

They were characters from a script that had accompanied him since childhood, ancient and enduring through the ages.

This single character wasn’t used in any modern words. It symbolized only one being.

Yi.

“Jax? Jax!”

Jia Changjiang snapped out of his daze to find Venti hovering right in front of him, waving a hand.

“What’s on your mind?” Venti asked, tilting his head.

“Nothing much,” Jia Changjiang replied with a shake of his head. “Just thinking about what I should do next.”

“Speaking of which…”

Jia Changjiang’s gaze swept over Venti, and he raised an eyebrow. “Why are you dressed like that?”

“This? To better channel the power of the Anemo Archon, of course! After all, I’m currently the weakest among the Seven,” Venti said cheerfully, sitting cross-legged in midair. “What do you think? Doesn’t it make me look more like the Anemo Archon?”

“...”

Jia Changjiang decided to swallow his retort, choosing not to comment on how the outfit bordered on… peculiar.

“Lord Barbatos, are you planning to return to Mondstadt?” Jean asked, stepping forward.

She already had an inkling of his answer but felt compelled to ask.

“Hmm… Mondstadt doesn’t really need a god to lead it anymore, does it?” Venti mused, tapping his lips. “From the beginning until now, it never really did.”

After a moment of playful thought, he grinned mischievously. “And besides, who says the one playing that song in Mondstadt’s skies was Barbatos, the Anemo Archon?”

“That was merely a wandering bard who happened to perform a melody—nothing more.”

Venti alighted on Jia Changjiang’s shoulder, stretching his arms lazily. “As for me, it’s not odd for a bard to appear wherever the wind takes him, is it?”

“Eh?” Jean blinked, momentarily stunned.

“Pfft…”

Diluc sighed. “Having such a god in Mondstadt—is it a blessing or a curse?”

“A blessing, of course!”

Lumine patted Diluc on the shoulder with a grin. “It’s part of what makes Mondstadt unique, isn’t it?”

Then, without warning, Lumine pounced on Jean from behind, wrapping her arms around her. “Jean! How’d I do today? Pretty great, huh?”

“L-Lumine?!” Jean exclaimed, startled, her expression mirroring Dvalin’s earlier bewilderment.

As Lumine prepared to escalate her playful teasing, Paimon stepped in to restore balance—acting once again as Lumine’s external conscience.

“Traveler!!”

Laughter echoed across Windrise, the atmosphere light and cheerful once more.

“Venti, I’ve got a question for you.”

Jia Changjiang’s gaze shifted from Lumine’s antics to Venti, who was lazily swinging his legs atop his shoulder.

“Hmm? Ask away,” Venti replied, cheerful as ever.

“As the Anemo Archon… do all the people of Mondstadt hold equal importance to you?”

“Of course.” Venti’s tone grew more serene. “Every person living in Mondstadt is equally important in the eyes of the Anemo Archon.”

“And the role of the Anemo Archon—does it matter to you?”

“Why do you ask?” Venti tilted his head, curiosity evident in his eyes.

“I just wanted to understand you better as Mondstadt’s god of freedom.” Jia Changjiang paused, then added with a small smile, “You’re a very kind god.”

“Thank you for the compliment,” Venti replied, his laughter light and melodic, like wind chimes. “But as for the title of Anemo Archon? Maybe it doesn’t matter all that much to me.”

“I’m the world’s greatest bard, after all.”

“Is that so?”

Jia Changjiang quietly etched Venti’s words into his memory.

“If you ever need help, I’ll be there,” Jia Changjiang said. “As a friend.”

“Alright.”

Their conversation concluded, Jia Changjiang turned his gaze toward Lumine, who was now playfully wrestling with Jean.

For him, there was no need to overthink things.

Jia Changjiang would fight for his own path. As for what lay ahead, he’d leave those decisions to others.

---

Jean soon returned to the Knights of Favonius to manage the backlog of work.

The Abyss Mages’ orchestrated hilichurl attacks on Mondstadt had been fended off, but the knights were left with plenty to clean up.

Meanwhile, the city buzzed with talk of the Sky Dragon and the Anemo Archon.

There was no need to clarify the situation further—Jean’s brief explanation about Dvalin’s return sufficed.

The roles Lumine and Jia Changjiang had played in these events were quickly recognized, and their reputations soared in Mondstadt.

However, the identity of the demon that had danced with Dvalin remained an unsolved mystery.

Where it had come from and where it had gone, no one could say. But the consensus was clear: the demon had played a part in bringing Dvalin back.

While their names spread through Mondstadt, Jia Changjiang and Lumine spent the night camping in the wilderness.

After all, Jia Changjiang’s current form made it impossible for him to enter the city, leaving them no choice but to stay outside until his transformation wore off.

Though Lumine initially planned to sleep in a cozy inn, her concern for Jia Changjiang possibly losing control led her to stay by his side.

---

Exactly twenty-four hours later, the time limit on his weapon abilities expired.

The demonic body encasing Jia Changjiang dissolved, and the Darkin Blade vanished without a trace.

As he stretched with a relieved grin, he exclaimed, “Ah, it feels great to be back in my own body!”

“Grumble~”

But Lumine wasn’t interested in his relief.

Having spent hours in the wilderness with no food, she was now ravenous.

Eight and a half hours without a proper meal, with all their dry rations gone, had reduced Lumine to a state where even Paimon looked edible.

“Back to Mondstadt for food!” she declared, her eyes gleaming with determination.

Author’s Note:
As per a reader’s earlier request, we’ll soon have a chapter where Childe learns how to use a bow! By the way, Childe’s real name is “Ajax,” and “Tartaglia” is just his codename.

T/N: Is this why he got a Bow as a reward :O
