The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [90]

“So, I still want a sword,” he added, his gaze thoughtful.
Earlier, Razor had watched Jia Changjiang effortlessly use the enormous pickaxe to dig a deep hole in a spot where even Razor’s claymore had struggled to make a dent. The hole yielded a trove of ore, leaving Razor wondering if such a tool could help him dig more dens for his wolf pack.
“So basically, you’re giving me free rein?” Jia Changjiang scratched his chin. “Something comfortable to use and suits you…”
Sizing Razor up, Jia Changjiang tossed the basic ores they’d collected into his portable forge. “Let’s look for more materials. If we’re making you a new weapon, we might as well make it top-notch.”
“Okay!” Razor agreed enthusiastically.
Before they could set out, a sudden explosion echoed through the nearby forest.
“Huh?” Jia Changjiang’s brows furrowed as he looked toward the source of the sound.
In this pristine wilderness, an explosion was strikingly out of place.
“It’s my friend’s sound!” Razor’s voice was anxious as he turned toward the direction of the noise. “That’s… where the black wolves are!”
“Friend? A red, fiery girl… explosions…” Jia Changjiang finally pieced it together. “Your friend is Klee?! Wait, what’s Klee doing in Wolvendom?”
“Is she in danger?”
Without answering, Razor bolted toward the sound, leaving Jia Changjiang no choice but to chase after him.
Razor moved swiftly through the forest, his familiarity with the terrain evident. Jia Changjiang followed close behind, the sound of explosions growing louder as they approached.
When they arrived, the scene before them was not what Jia Changjiang had expected.
Klee was indeed there, and so were a group of black wolves.
But instead of Klee being surrounded and in danger, the black wolves were fleeing in a panic.
“Boom Boom Bomb!” Klee shouted gleefully, tossing another bouncing bomb into the pack of wolves. The explosion scattered the wolves, sending them yelping as they retreated further into the forest.
“Razor! Honorary Knight Uncle!” Klee waved excitedly when she spotted them. “Look! I chased away the bad wolves that were attacking people!”
Jia Changjiang rushed over to her, his concern giving way to irritation.
“Call me ‘big brother!’ I’m only in my twenties!” Jia Changjiang exclaimed, pinching Klee’s cheeks. “What are you doing here? Where’s Jean?”
“Klee, are you okay?” Razor asked, his worry evident.
With her cheeks still being pinched, Klee’s words came out slightly garbled. “Klee… Klee came to play with Razor and the Honorary Knight Sister. Then I met these big bad wolves, but I chased them away with my bombs!”
Klee pouted, looking puzzled. “But… I’ve played here before, and it was fine…”
Jia Changjiang was about to lecture her when his nose caught the scent of burning wood. He turned sharply to see a tree nearby engulfed in flames.
“FIRE! PUT IT OUT!”
---
A few frantic minutes later, Jia Changjiang had cleared the area around the burning tree, uprooting nearby grass and smaller trees to prevent the fire from spreading. Finally, he grabbed his mop—still saturated from his last encounter with Abyss Mages’ water shields—and wrung it out, dousing the flames.
Meanwhile, Klee had realized her mistake and was now visibly shaken.
“Set the forest on fire, and Klee’s in big trouble… Set the forest on fire, and Klee’s in big trouble…” she muttered, teary-eyed as she stared at the charred tree. “Klee broke the survival rules…”
Sniffling, she tugged at Jia Changjiang’s sleeve. “Honorary Knight Uncle… what should Klee do? Should Klee… turn herself in to Master Jean?”
“I don’t know… but it’s just one tree, so it’s not really burning the whole forest, right?” Jia Changjiang sighed, rubbing his temple.
This is what it’s like having a Vision-wielding child? Poor Jean…
“Really?” Klee’s eyes sparkled with hope. “Master Jean won’t be mad?”
“If we don’t tell her, she won’t know. Consider this a small lesson.” Jia Changjiang bent down to meet her gaze. “But next time, I’m not covering for you.”
Klee sniffled, then smiled. “Thank you, Honorary Knight Unc—um, Brother!”
“It’s ‘big brother!’”
Turning to Razor, Klee added, “I’m sorry, Razor. I burned the trees here…”
“It’s okay,” Razor said, shaking his head. “Klee is safe. That’s good.”
Jia Changjiang sighed, scooping Klee up and setting her on his shoulders. “Don’t wander off again. You’ve already set a tree on fire. If anything else happens, Jean might chew me out too.”
He wasn’t carrying her just to keep her safe—though that was part of it. Watching Klee gleefully chase after a pack of black wolves had reminded him of something critical: Keeping Klee in check was as much about protecting her as it was about protecting the forest.
With that thought, Jia Changjiang felt a small swell of pride. What a responsible, heroic figure I’ve become.
“Wow, so high!” Klee giggled, marveling at the new perspective from Jia Changjiang’s shoulders.
“I came here for a fight, and now I’m babysitting…” Jia Changjiang muttered under his breath before addressing Razor. “Those black wolves—do you think they’ll attack anyone else after running off?”
Razor shook his head. “They will come back. Wolvendom has lots of prey. Wolves won’t give it up.”
“But… they broke the rules, so they’ll be punished. That’s the lord’s law,” Razor added solemnly.
“The lord? The Wolf King?” Jia Changjiang mused aloud. “So the wolf pack has its own rules too? No wonder Klee never had trouble here before…”
Razor nodded. “If wolves follow rules, they stay safe. If not… the lord will act.”
Jia Changjiang glanced at Klee, who was now happily swinging her legs from his shoulders. Yeah, I’d better keep her out of trouble… at least for now.
