The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [119]

By the time Jia Changjiang returned from Stormterror’s Lair to Mondstadt, night had already fallen.

Fireflies and crystalflies flitted across the open fields and forests, glowing faintly under the moonlight.

Rather than hurrying back to the city, Jia Changjiang found a small hill outside of Mondstadt and settled down. He lit a campfire, set a pot over the flames, and opened his system interface.

The day had run long, and it seemed he’d have to spend the night camping.

The task he’d taken on during his encounter with Stanley had been completed earlier—though technically, it was after he’d spent half the night drinking with Venti.

Jia Changjiang had found himself wondering if the vague, undefined goal of the task had been meant for Stanley… or for Venti.

Regardless, the mission was complete, and the only thing left to do was claim the reward.

[If You Are Trapped in a Windless Place]
[Task Completed. Rewards Distributed.]
[Reward: Skill — Windcatcher.]

“A skill?” Jia Changjiang raised a brow, intrigued. It had been a while since the system had rewarded him with a skill.

Most of his techniques were ones he’d developed himself, like his leap strikes, or those gained through quests, like Jax’s abilities. Otherwise, his combat style was straightforward.

But now, Windcatcher? What kind of ability was that?

Curious, Jia Changjiang selected the new skill.

The moment he confirmed it, a wave of sensations—memories, or perhaps instincts—flooded his mind.

[Windcatcher: A deeper understanding of the wind.]

As the knowledge settled into his consciousness, Jia Changjiang’s senses seemed to sharpen.

The sound of the breeze in his ears, the flow of air brushing past his fingers, the gentle gusts tousling his hair—suddenly, all of it felt traceable, tangible.

When he opened his eyes, the invisible wind around him seemed to take on faint, discernible shapes.

If asked to articulate the difference, Jia Changjiang might have struggled to explain. But in that moment, he felt an odd confidence—almost as if he could turn the wind’s fleeting touch into a weapon.

Looking at his hands, he let out a wry laugh. “What is this? I still can’t control the wind, but now I’m the one who ‘understands it best’?”

“Guess I’ll test this out when I get back. Maybe someone who actually wields Anemo can tell me how far this understanding goes.”

He thought for a moment. “Lumine would be a good test subject. Wonder how her Windblades are coming along…”

The thought brought a chuckle as he remembered Lumine using her similarity to Jean’s Dandelion Breeze as an excuse to spar with the Acting Grand Master.

“Why is that girl such a troublemaker?” Jia Changjiang mused aloud, poking at the fire. “If she’s like this, what kind of person is her brother?”

He chuckled at his own curiosity but held a certain fondness for Lumine.

Part of it stemmed from his faint memories of playing Genshin Impact before arriving in this world. But beyond that, despite her greed, flirtatious nature, love of food, and occasional mischief, Lumine was undeniably kind and gentle at heart.

It was an odd mix of traits, but one that felt authentic.

“Tomorrow… I’ll head back to Mondstadt and find something useful to do.”

Yawning, Jia Changjiang leaned against a rock by the fire, closed his eyes, and drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile, back in Mondstadt, Lumine and Paimon were wandering the city.

That day, they’d heard rumors of the Darknight Hero. After some investigation, they narrowed it down to a certain wealthy, non-Knights individual with a Pyro Vision.

“Aha! I’ve got it! It’s Diluc!” Lumine clapped her hands confidently.

Paimon, however, wasn’t convinced. “Wait a minute! You already guessed it was Diluc back at Wolvendom, and you were wrong! Why are you still stuck on him?”

“Because everything about the description fits him,” Lumine countered.

“Anyway, weren’t we investigating the Darknight Hero to figure out who Mondstadt’s strongest fighter is?”

“Oh yeah…” Paimon thought for a moment, counting on her fingers. “But there are so many contenders—‘Darknight Hero Faction,’ ‘Dandelion Knight Faction,’ ‘Jax Faction,’ ‘Stanley Faction’… Honestly, Stanley’s not that strong!”

She crossed her arms indignantly. “And don’t even get me started on the people claiming there’s a ‘Mysterious Red-Hooded Girl Faction.’ Seriously, what’s with that?!”

“Well, if you ask me, it’s obvious the strongest is you, Traveler!”

“Of course! I’m amazing,” Lumine said smugly. “But we should still finish investigating. Those guys in the tavern earlier said they’d pay us 50,000 Mora if we could figure out who the Darknight Hero is!”

Eyes gleaming, she held up five fingers. “With that, we’d have enough for our trip to Liyue!”

“And if we compile a ‘Mondstadt’s Strongest’ ranking and sell it as a pamphlet, we could make tons of money for Sweet Madame!”

Paimon nodded eagerly, while Lumine continued her pitch.

“And if we uncover the truth about Mondstadt’s strongest fighter, even Jax would probably find it interesting.”

“Oh, good point!” Paimon agreed, excited. “Let’s start looking!”

Her eyes lit up with an idea. “We should ask Jean! Maybe the Knights have an official ranking of Mondstadt’s strongest fighters.”

“Great idea! And we should also ask Venti. He’s both a bard and the Anemo Archon—he’s bound to know something!”

The pair wandered the city, following every rumor and whisper, hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive hero.

When they reached Mondstadt’s rear gate, they heard the distinct sounds of a battle nearby.

“Could it be?!” Lumine’s eyes sparkled as she dashed toward the commotion. “We might actually see the Darknight Hero!”

“Wait for me!” Paimon called, trailing behind.

When they reached the gate, they found themselves staring at an Abyss Mage—its icy aura crackling in the night air—locked in combat with a tall, red-haired man wielding a claymore.

“Of course! It’s Diluc!” Lumine exclaimed.
