The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [153]

"Sorry about this, buddy!"

Jia Changjiang grabbed a Millelith soldier and hurled him into the approaching group, sending them scattering.

Despite his actions, Jia Changjiang was careful not to use excessive force—this was an escape, not a battle to the death. Just like back in Mondstadt with the Knights of Favonius, he preferred to knock them out rather than cause serious harm.

As Jia Changjiang and Lumine dashed through the alleys, more and more soldiers were thrown out of the narrow pathways they traversed.

Lumine had already stowed her weapon, focusing entirely on keeping up with Jia Changjiang as they fled. His strikes were controlled, clearing a path without causing significant injuries.

“Jax! Over here!”

Lumine called out, pointing toward a narrow alleyway. “This way, there’s a path!”

“On my way!”

Jia Changjiang tossed another spear-wielding soldier into a nearby pool, then grabbed the soldier's spear and used it to vault over the wall of soldiers blocking his path. He landed neatly by Lumine’s side, and the two darted into the alley together.

Only to come face-to-face with a dead end.

The silence between them was deafening.

“Traveler, this is a dead end!” Paimon screeched, waving her tiny arms in panic. “What do we do now?!”

“Uh… ehehe?” Lumine let out an awkward laugh.

“‘Ehehe’?! What kind of response is that?!” Paimon yelled, thoroughly exasperated.

Lumine grabbed Paimon by her chubby little legs and declared, “Paimon, you can fly! Figure something out! Get us out of here!”

“I can’t carry you two!” Paimon fumed, struggling against Lumine’s grip. “Paimon can only carry herself! If I tried lifting you both, my flying limbs would be toast!”

“Oh! Mr. Jax! You have that magical pickaxe, don’t you?” Paimon suddenly remembered and turned to Jia Changjiang. “Quick, dig us out of here!”

“Relax, I’ve got this!” Jia Changjiang reassured them. “I’ll carve a way through!”

Meanwhile, from a nearby rooftop, Childe observed the scene with growing amusement.

“Such fascinating people. It’d be a shame if they got captured by the Millelith. Besides…” He smirked. “I could always leave that troublesome business with the Adepti to them.”

As the soldiers surged into the alley, Childe sprang into action. He leapt from above, a hydro blade forming in his hand as he effortlessly dispatched the soldiers, leaving them unconscious in his wake.

“Ha~”

Dusting himself off, Childe turned to face the trio. He was ready to start a conversation—

Only to find a perfectly square hole in the wall and no trace of Jia Changjiang, Lumine, or Paimon.

“…Huh?”

Elsewhere, as they sprinted away, Lumine perked up, her ears catching a faint noise.

“Jax, did you hear that? Back where we came from—wasn’t there the sound of fighting?”

“Didn’t hear anything,” Jia Changjiang replied with a shrug. “Maybe it was just the sound of water splashing or something.”

“Maybe… But the Millelith haven’t caught up yet.”

The two continued their quiet conversation as they ran further into the distance.

Back in the alley, more Millelith soldiers arrived to find their comrades unconscious.

“Their accomplice is here! Arrest him!”

---

Childe coughed, brushing off the dust that had settled on him. He had spent considerable effort dodging the Millelith and hiding his Fatui identity while making his escape.

For all his skills, the situation had been far from ideal. In Liyue terms, he had started out trying to forge a “good fate” but somehow ended up with a “bad one.”

When he finally caught up to Jia Changjiang and Lumine, they were relaxing on Tianheng Mountain, grilling skewers over an open flame.

“Hey, Jax, what’s our next move?” Lumine asked, her eyes fixed on the honey-glazed chicken drumsticks sizzling on the fire. Drool pooled at the corners of her mouth.

Paimon, meanwhile, looked less relaxed. “We’re not going to end up on Liyue’s most wanted list, are we?”

“Who knows? With how suspicious we look, it’s definitely possible.” Jia Changjiang flipped a drumstick with casual ease. “I’m not too bothered about being wanted, but what about you, Lumine? Didn’t you come here to find clues about your brother through the Geo Archon? What’s your plan now, after all this chaos?”

Lumine wiped away the drool, her expression turning serious. “I don’t know yet. But I feel like it doesn’t add up. The Seven Archons… it’s hard to believe one of them could be killed so easily.”

“Besides,” she added, her brows furrowed in thought, “Venti told us that Morax, as the God of War, was assassinated in front of everyone. That doesn’t make sense no matter how you look at it.”

“What do you think, Jax?”

“I’m not sure if the Geo Archon is really dead, but with the mess we’ve caused, clearing our names should be the first priority.” Jia Changjiang shook his head. “Honestly, if we’d stayed back and explained, the Millelith wouldn’t have hurt us—they know you’re the Honorary Knight.

“But since you didn’t want to leave things in the gods’ hands… Well, suspicion it is!” He grinned. “Don’t worry. I’ve got your back.”

“Jia Changjiang…” Lumine blinked in surprise. “Why are you helping me?”

They might both be from other worlds, but that wasn’t enough of a reason for him to go out of his way.

“Because…” Jia Changjiang met her gaze, pausing dramatically before breaking into a grin. “I figured it out! Wherever you go, there’s bound to be trouble! And that means plenty of fights!”

“Seriously?!” Lumine groaned, exasperated. “That’s your reason?!”

“Relax!” Jia Changjiang chuckled, patting her head. “It’s a good enough reason for me. Besides, traveling with you two is a lot of fun. That’s reason enough.”

He handed over the freshly grilled drumsticks to Lumine and Paimon before turning toward the trees. “Hey, you over there. Care to join us for a bite?”

Paimon gnawed on her drumstick and looked in the direction Jia Changjiang was addressing. “Mr. Jax, there’s no one there! Not even the Millelith could’ve caught up so fast—”

Before she could finish, Childe emerged from behind a tree.

“Finally caught up with you,” he said with a wry smile. “Though it seems you’ve been taking things… remarkably lightly, considering the situation.”

He shook his head, feigning disappointment. “You know, I almost got arrested by the Millelith because of you.”
