The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [158]

With a powerful strike of his iron monk’s staff, Jia Changjiang shattered the amber imprisoning Lumine, finally setting her free.

“Ugh…” Lumine kicked at the amber fragments in irritation. “What is this stuff?!”

“It’s like those stories about Adepti,” Paimon chimed in. “Their footsteps can sprout trees, and their spit turns into waterfalls…”

“Stop!” Lumine gagged, turning pale at the thought. “I don’t want to hear about spit!”

Before she could recover, the amber nearby began to tremble as though something inside was struggling to escape.

“Jax!” Lumine tugged at his sleeve. “There’s something inside that amber!”

“Something inside?” Jia Changjiang leaned closer, inspecting the trembling amber. Then, without hesitation, he raised his staff and smashed it open.

“Cough… cough…”

From within the shattered amber, a man dressed in Treasure Hoarder attire tumbled out, coughing violently.

“A Treasure Hoarder?” Lumine peered curiously from behind Jia Changjiang.

She didn’t particularly dislike Treasure Hoarders—after all, they often dropped valuable materials that fetched good prices.

The man finally managed to catch his breath and looked up at them. “You… you rescued me?! Thank you!”

“My name is Li Dang. Have you seen my brother, Li Ding? We climbed this mountain together, but then… I blacked out!”

Before they could respond, Li Dang’s eyes widened in astonishment as he took in the sight of Jia Changjiang and Lumine.

In the misty mountain air of Huaguang Stone Forest, a striking scene unfolded before him.

There stood a tall, muscular man, his eyes blazing with an almost otherworldly intensity. He wore exotic robes of deep red that draped over his sturdy frame, and in his hands, he held an unusual iron staff that clinked faintly as it moved. On his other arm hung a string of heavy steel prayer beads, which he idly rotated.

Beside him was a golden-haired girl, her long hair flowing gently in the breeze. She held a small hiking stick and wore a playful tiger pelt skirt, her curious, bright gaze fixed on Li Dang.

And floating nearby was a small, humanoid creature—a spirit, surely—whose round, cherubic features glowed with innocence.

If these were not immortals, they had to be emissaries of the Adepti.

Li Dang fell to his knees with a loud thud, bowing deeply. “O great immortals! I was wrong! I shouldn’t have been so greedy as to trespass in Jueyun Karst seeking fortune. Please spare me and my brother!”

“???”

Jia Changjiang stared at the groveling man, a question mark practically visible above his head.

Immortals? Was this guy referring to them?

What about Lumine screamed “immortal”? She was cute, sure, but beneath that exterior was nothing but chaos.

“We’re not immortals,” Jia Changjiang said firmly. “We’re just—”

“You must be emissaries of the Adepti!” Li Dang interrupted, his voice full of conviction. “You’re far too extraordinary to be mere mortals!”

“Please, spare my brother and me. I swear we’ll erect shrines in your honor and burn incense for you daily!”

Li Dang began kowtowing fervently, but Jia Changjiang sighed, lifting him up by the back of his collar with one arm.

“I said we’re not immortals,” he began, but then a mischievous glint appeared in his eyes. “Ahem. I am but a humble monk from East Mondstadt, traveling west in search of the Adepti…”

He gestured toward Lumine and Paimon. “This is my eldest disciple, Lumine Wukong, and my second disciple, Paimon Bajie. Your rescue was purely fate. Once we find your brother, the two of you should leave this mountain and live honest lives.”

Setting Li Dang back down, Jia Changjiang added, “Understood?”

“Paimon Bajie?!” Paimon opened her mouth to protest but was quickly silenced by Lumine’s hand clamping over her face.

“Understood, Master! Thank you!” Li Dang nodded furiously, though it was unclear how much he actually believed.

“Jax, are you seriously pretending to be a monk now?” Lumine muttered under her breath as she walked beside him. “Not that it isn’t kind of funny…”

“It’s just to convince him to leave,” Jia Changjiang replied with a shrug. “We’re here to discuss the Rite of Descension, and having outsiders loitering around could cause trouble. Better to send him on his way.”

“Fair enough,” Lumine agreed, lowering her voice conspiratorially. “But next time, I get to be the master. I’ll call you Jia Wukong!”

Li Dang, oblivious to their whispering, followed them up the mountain. Eventually, they found his brother, Li Ding, also trapped in amber.

Once freed, the brothers gazed at Jia Changjiang and Lumine as if they were divine beings.

In the end, Jia Changjiang resorted to smashing a boulder with his monk’s staff to convince them to leave the mountain peacefully and find honest work.

As the brothers descended, Jia Changjiang watched their retreating figures and mused aloud, “Persuading people isn’t so hard. Maybe I’m a natural?”

“Natural?!” Paimon huffed. “You just scared them into behaving!”

“And what was with the name ‘Paimon Bajie’?!”

“It’s a special nickname,” Jia Changjiang replied with a smirk. “Its origin lies in a legendary figure who loved food and had a cushy life.”

“Food?” Paimon’s eyes lit up. “Really?!”

“Of course. I’d never lie to you,” Jia Changjiang said, casually spinning his prayer beads. “It’s definitely a… ‘plump’ position.”

“Where’s this Adeptus, though?” Lumine interrupted, looking around impatiently. “We’ve been climbing forever, and I’m starving.”

Just as she spoke, a deep, resonant voice boomed from behind them.

“To release the condemned so freely… Such insolence from mortals! Come forward at once to receive judgment!”

Jia Changjiang and Lumine turned sharply, their eyes landing on a massive, golden-brown crane descending gracefully from the cliffs above.

Its imposing presence filled the air with pressure, and Jia Changjiang instinctively tightened his grip on his staff.

“Are you Mountain Shaper?” Jia Changjiang asked, his knuckles whitening as he steadied himself. “Moon Carver sent us. We bear the Sigil of Permission.
