Is Unlocking the Stellaris Tech Tree in Star Rail Really Okay? [93]
Added 2025-01-01 21:07:23 +0000 UTCAs the conversation unfolded, fierce winds howled through the camp. Blasts of frost, gravel, and frozen soil, remnants of the explosions, swept violently into the edges of the External Security Guard outpost.
There was no mistaking it—this was the aftermath of the bombings.
The sheer magnitude of the explosions struck fear into the hearts of the Guards. Clad in light armor, some raised their shields while others sought refuge behind barriers to shield themselves from the icy storm that raged like a blizzard.
Gepard extended his hand, conjuring a shield of ice that shimmered into existence, protecting Pela and Serval.
He remained silent, his expression grim as his gaze occasionally flicked upward to the looming shadow in the sky.
Even Serval, known for her quips, had no room for jokes now. She understood her brother’s character all too well—if this had been any other invasion of Belobog, he would have charged headfirst into the fray, determined to protect his homeland at all costs.
But this time, Gepard said nothing. His expression grew increasingly severe, and the atmosphere around him sank into a heavy stillness.
“We’re no match for them,” Gepard said bitterly, his voice laced with both frustration and reverence. A wry smile tugged at his lips. “Sis… this might truly be the end for Belobog.”
It wasn’t the invasion he feared, nor the possibility of his troops breaking rank. It was the fact that they couldn’t even touch their enemy.
The shadow in the sky was so far above them that even the thought of engaging in combat felt absurd. Belobog had no tools, no technology capable of sending the Silvermane Guards into the skies to fight.
For centuries, the sky had been nothing more than a wistful dream for the fallen city of Belobog—a dream they could do nothing about.
Serval nodded dumbly. She had heard stories from Chen Lin about his homeland—a place of extraordinary military might, unmatched technological progress, and ships that sailed beyond the skies into the vastness of space.
To her, these tales had always seemed too fantastical, merely expanding her knowledge and providing an entertaining contrast to Belobog’s struggles.
But now, Serval understood.
Her researcher’s spirit ignited, only to be extinguished just as quickly.
How could Belobog possibly surpass the fruits of an empire’s thousands—no, tens of thousands—of years of accumulation with just a few decades of hard work?
What right did they have to even think about it?
Serval recalled Chen Lin’s warnings. He had assured her that his empire was peaceful, cooperative, and fair—a beacon of civility and reason.
But this… doesn’t seem like the actions of a reasonable nation…
As the Landau siblings stood frozen in shock, Pela remembered Chen Lin’s advice.
In the silence that followed the explosions, she suddenly spoke up in the center of the training grounds: “Perhaps we could reason with them? It doesn’t seem like they intend to harm us.”
“We could try,” Serval said, catching on. “But how do we contact them?”
“…” Pela paused for a few seconds. “Let’s figure that out later.”
Gepard, staring at them incredulously, asked, “Are you two seriously not scared out of your minds?”

Meanwhile, in the central district of Belobog, citizens panicked at the deafening explosions. Many ran for cover, clutching their heads in fear, while the braver ones sought higher ground to catch a glimpse of the distant smoke rising from the bombed-out areas.
A natural disaster? No—it must be an apocalypse! An extinction-level catastrophe has come upon us!
While the citizens struggled with shock and confusion, inside Qlipoth Fort, Cocolia’s mind had all but shut down.
From the moment the explosions began, the Stellaron’s anguished cries reverberated through her mind.
One moment, the Fragmentum’s energy was depleted and could no longer be sustained; the next, entire regions occupied by the Fragmentum were obliterated by bombs.
The Stellaron’s laments poured into her consciousness, leaving her unable to stay calm, let alone manage the crisis unfolding outside.
About an hour and a half later, the explosions ceased.
Cocolia, drenched in sweat, finally regained some semblance of composure. After straightening her attire, she stepped out of her chamber.
She had barely taken a step when her steward, whom she had stationed outside, rushed up to her, holding a strange device.
“Lady Cocolia, you must see this!”
“What is this… thing?”
Cocolia frowned as she took the device—a small, box-shaped instrument with a transparent glass panel at its center.
The steward explained, “Dozens of these objects have descended upon Belobog. Almost every citizen has picked one up. The research department dismantled a few but couldn’t make sense of their advanced design. However, they’ve confirmed it’s not a bomb. The department head suspects it’s some sort of tool for transmitting visuals.”
“A communication device?” Cocolia muttered, fiddling with the box. “Have we identified the cause of the explosions?”
The steward nodded, then quickly shook his head.
Cocolia’s brows furrowed. “What are you trying to say?”
“Lady Cocolia, please look at the shadow in the sky over there.” The steward pointed with trembling hands, fear etched into his face. “The intelligence division believes the explosions—and these devices—are directly linked to that shadow.”
Suppressing her unease, Cocolia tossed the device back to the steward. “A petty trick. Whatever this is, our priority is to resolve the chaos in the city. Issue an order for a citywide lockdown!”
Before she could walk away, Cocolia stopped abruptly and turned back. “The External Security Guards still refuse to enter the city?”
The steward nodded firmly. “Captain Gepard has detained two officials sent to relay your orders.”
“Ugh…” Cocolia exhaled deeply, her fury evident in her eyes. “Captain of the Guards? There is no longer a Captain Gepard Landau! Out of respect for the Landau family, I’ve given him enough chances. Inform him that the Landau family members still in the city have been invited to a banquet at the palace tonight—and he is expected to attend as well.”
“Yes, Lady Cocolia.” The steward shivered, understanding that this was no mere invitation but a veiled threat to use the Landau family’s lives as leverage.
Before the steward could leave, the device in his hands emitted a faint crackling noise.
Cocolia turned sharply to face the device, while the steward, startled, dropped it.
The transparent panel on the box lit up with a pale blue glow, projecting an image half a meter above it. The picture was clear, revealing the speaker.
“Greetings, fellow humans of Jarilo-VI. I am an ordinary soldier from the great empire and the commanding officer of Federation Class-A Destroyer #1.”
The man in the projection spoke a foreign language, yet his words were immediately understood by all who heard them.
“We have discovered your presence on Jarilo-VI and identified you as the first faction we have encountered here—a nation called Belobog."
“As an escort vessel accompanying a research ship, we entered your planet’s orbit to demonstrate our empire’s commitment to seriousness and protocol."
“First and foremost, the empire condemns Belobog’s betrayal. Our scientists entered your territory for research, providing extensive industrial and agricultural support in return for access to your lands. This was approved by our empire’s cabinet and highest leader upon the recommendation of our chief scientist, Mr. Chen Lin."
“However, after delivering invaluable scientific data and resources, we lost contact with Mr. Chen Lin. Observational instruments confirm that he has been subjected to severe political persecution and assassination attempts, placing him in grave danger."
“As one of our empire’s most vital leaders and a future heir to the highest office, this betrayal is the gravest insult and provocation our empire has faced since its founding."
“By order of the supreme leader, extinction-level retaliation has been approved. Your planet will be obliterated and repurposed as a resource field. Even against interstellar condemnation, this punishment will be carried out."
“Our initial strike demonstrated our resolve. In the coming days, a fleet of 674 warships, two colossal dreadnoughts with multiple shipyards, and a planet-destroying weapon will arrive."
“Belobog’s leader, Cocolia Rand, is given an ultimatum: Return Mr. Chen Lin unharmed within 15 days, or face annihilation."
“The empire cherishes peace and cooperation but does not fear war.”
The transmission ended abruptly. Following the message, the device displayed footage of planets reduced to debris by massive imperial war machines.
Cocolia, staring at the images, muttered, “Is… this what our planet looks like?”
Onscreen, a red beam shot down from a gigantic weapon, shattering a planet into countless fragments. Nothing remained but empty space.
Life?
Impossible.
Thud.
The elderly steward’s legs suddenly gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground, his wrinkled face twitching uncontrollably. His pupils quivered wildly, and his breathing became so rapid that anyone passing by might have thought the old gentleman was suffering a heart attack.
“Lady Cocolia… please… save Belobog!”
It took him a long moment, stammering all the while, to force out those words.
Opposite him, Cocolia stood just as frozen, her eyes wide with terror. The fear that gripped her heart even silenced the Stellaron’s calls, leaving her mind blank as she stood there, unable to utter a word.

Elsewhere, Bronya, confined to her palace quarters, stared at the projection before her in stunned silence. Even the normally lively Silvermane Guards who liked to gather in her courtyard, chatting and boasting, had gone completely still.
Inside and outside Bronya’s residence, the silence was so absolute that even the sound of a pin dropping could be heard.
It was only after a long while that Bronya snapped out of her stupor. Her first instinct was to turn to her mentor in times of crisis, but her hand hovered over the message screen, hesitant to send anything.
She remembered Chen Lin’s earnest teachings: Learn to think independently, to handle crises on your own, to solve problems without relying on others, to judge right from wrong on your own…
In the end, she closed her chat with Chen Lin and opened Pela’s contact instead.
Bronya: “Pela, I want to leave the palace and join the army.”
Pela: “Are you sure you can get out safely, Your Highness?”
Bronya: “I’m certain. They’re all my people—they’ll help me leave.”
Pela: “Then come. Captain Gepard will arrange for someone to meet you in the Sixth District. We also need your presence here to make some critical decisions!”
Under normal circumstances, Pela would never have agreed to such a risky request. If Bronya’s escape was discovered, the Silvermane Guards stationed to watch over her would face severe punishment, and they’d likely be replaced with a new unit.
But with the situation as dire as it was, Pela knew Bronya wouldn’t tolerate being confined any longer. Not only did Pela approve Bronya’s request to join the army, but she also ensured an extraction plan to prevent her from being caught and sent back to Qlipoth Fort.
Bronya pushed open the doors of her palace quarters, instantly meeting the concerned gazes of over a dozen Silvermane Guards stationed outside.
She took a deep breath and declared, “Please prepare yourselves. I intend to leave this place and head to the External Security Guard camp.”
“Lady Bronya—”
The deputy captain’s words were abruptly cut off as the unit captain smacked him silent.
“Supreme Guardian, we will ensure your safe departure!” The captain’s voice boomed with resolve. “You are Belobog’s last hope. Rest assured, even if we must lay down our lives, we will see you safely to your destination!”
Bronya pressed her lips together, determination hardening in her eyes.
“Then I’ll leave it to you.”
