Is Unlocking the Stellaris Tech Tree in Star Rail Really Okay? [112]

Life inside the Stellaron was dull and monotonous. Chen Lin spent most of his time supervising his psionic constructs at work or entertaining himself.

However, he did discover a few interesting things.

For instance, the souls and memories of the Guardians who had perished in the Fragmentum Rifts had been preserved within the Stellaron. Chen Lin meticulously separated these and stored them in psionic orbs he crafted—after all, he wasn’t exactly lacking in psionic energy.

When the last wisp of white mist was finally dyed a faint purple, Chen Lin’s domination over the Stellaron was officially complete.

As he had anticipated, once the Stellaron was fully assimilated, it formed an unbreakable link with him, as if the psionic Stellaron had become an extension of his body, responding seamlessly to his will.

But Chen Lin didn’t spend all his time idly watching his constructs work. He diligently studied psionic theories that had previously eluded his understanding.

Through continuous experimentation and refinement, he figured out how to claim the Stellaron for himself.

Emerging from the Stellaron, Chen Lin’s spiritual form no longer appeared as vague and ethereal as before. He could now materialize his spirit into a form even stronger than his physical body and could even choose whether others could perceive him.

Grabbing the Stellaron, which now glowed faintly purple within the suppressive device, Chen Lin, now in his psionic entity form, swallowed the entire thing in one gulp.

“Burp~” Chen Lin let out a satisfied belch, a contented expression spreading across his face.

He inspected the Stellaron within his psionic form and found it to be far more spacious inside than he had imagined. He wondered if, aside from energy-based objects, it could also store other things.

Whether it could or not would have to wait for him to test later.

It was then that he noticed signs of melting ice and snow on the mountaintop. Normally, the thousand-year-old ice wouldn’t thaw within just a few days…

Could it be that I’ve been inside the Stellaron for months?!

The thought startled him. Without delay, he flew toward Belobog.

Previously, his flight was more like floating. Now, he shot through the air like a jet, arriving above Belobog in an instant.

Fortunately, not much had changed. The streetlights broken during the city-wide riots were still lying on the ground. It seemed he hadn’t been gone too long.

Relieved, Chen Lin followed the link between his spirit and body, quickly locating his physical form.

Sure enough, his body was lying quietly in a palace within Belobog. The Trailblazer team, along with Bronya and Seele, were also there. Even Natasha, deep in thought, stood nearby, her brows furrowed.

Almost everyone seemed to be acting normally—almost. The exception was Stelle, who was being held by March 7 at the back of the room, her hands restrained. It wasn’t clear what she was up to.

Chen Lin could even hear their conversation.

Natasha frowned. “This defies all medical theories, even the rules of living organisms. He has no vital signs, and yet after three or four days, there’s no decay or odor. Chen Lin looks just as alive as ever… Can none of you hear his voice when he talks to you?”

March 7 shook her head with a troubled expression. “No, we can’t…”

Seele stood silently by the bed, with Bronya at her side, her expression unreadable.

Stelle, however, grinned mischievously. “Hehehe, I bet Lin is fine! Let me snuggle up to him. He never lets me when he’s awake. Ehehehe, Lin-Lin~…”

“Stelle-sister, please don’t! If Big Brother finds out… he’ll… he’ll be really upset!” Clara, sitting by the bed and holding Chen Lin’s hand, looked genuinely worried.

“Even Clara is calling you out! Get a hold of yourself and stop corrupting the kids!” March 7 snapped.

Stelle chuckled unapologetically. “Kids? I’m technically less than a year old too, you know.”

“Enough! You call that less than a year old?!” March 7 pointed at Stelle, who was taller than her, nearly losing her mind.

Dan Heng calmly interjected, “March, keep an eye on Stelle and don’t let her cause any more trouble.”

“Leave it to me!”

Watching this scene unfold, Chen Lin finally understood why Stelle was being held at the back. The girl was truly a handful at times.

Having spent so long as a wandering spirit, Chen Lin was eager to return to his perfect, flawless body. Supervising his constructs had been draining, even though he’d gained plenty from the experience. Now, all he wanted was to see if anything had changed after reuniting with his physical form.

Without a second thought, Chen Lin dove back into his body.

The group was still discussing how to handle Chen Lin’s condition when an unexpected disturbance swept through the room.

Suddenly, strong winds began to howl, reminiscent of the battle atop the mountain two days prior. The icy chill permeated the room, sending shivers down everyone’s spines.

Seele was the first to draw her weapon, her voice sharp. “An enemy?”

“No, I don’t think so,” Dan Heng replied, an audacious yet plausible thought forming in his mind.

Chen Lin had told him before: as long as his body remained intact, he wasn’t truly dead. The sudden appearance of such a powerful energy surge in a confined space could only mean one thing—something had slipped out of control.

Anyone with sufficient strength could cause such an effect, though it was usually just a flashy waste of energy. No one would do it without reason.

Which left only one possible answer.

Chen Lin!

Everyone seemed to share the same thought as they turned to Chen Lin, lying motionless on the bed. His clothes fluttered wildly as though caught in an unseen storm, with the winds clearly emanating from him as the center.

Swish!

Chen Lin's eyes snapped open, and he abruptly sat up in bed. Though his gaze was still a little unfocused, he could hear excited cheers erupting around him.

“Brother Lin (Mentor)!!”
“Big Brother—!”
“Yay! Lin is back~”
“Whew, you're awake—that's all that matters.”

A pair of small hands tightly embraced him, followed by larger hands piling on as various scents reached his nose.

But none of this was what caught Chen Lin's attention. Instead, his vision was filled with event notifications—ones he had “absolutely no time for” piling up, obstructing his view.

Each notification was a wall of text, far too long for him to bother with at the moment. They’ve been here this long—what’s a little more time?

Dragging the notifications aside, Chen Lin hoisted Clara, who was clinging adorably to him, and sat back on the bed. He flashed the crowd a sunny, radiant smile.

“Everyone, I’m back!”

The past two days had been eventful for Belobog. Chen Lin listened quietly as Bronya and the others recounted the details of the final battle.

Apparently, it started with them being relentlessly pounded by ancient constructs and Cocolia. But with the help of aerial warships, they managed to destroy several of the constructs.

“In the end, Stelle seemed to gain the Architects’ acknowledgment, not only commanding intact ancient constructs but also receiving the spear of the first Guardian, Alyssa Rand…”

Bronya had clearly prepared her recount carefully, delivering every detail to Chen Lin without missing a beat.

Chen Lin was surprised to learn about Stelle’s stroke of luck and congratulated her on her newfound strength. At the same time, he quickly turned down her attempt to hug him.

Not now—there are too many people around.

With Stelle’s childlike sense of boundaries, Chen Lin genuinely worried she might do something inappropriate in public.

After all, everyone knows Stelle's mind is as bold as her actions.

“I’ll celebrate with you later when we have time,” Chen Lin said, expertly deflecting her enthusiasm.

Stelle beamed. “Lin-Lin, can you take me outside to play?”
“Sure.”
“And eat lots of yummy food!”
“No problem.”
“Thanks, Daddy!”
“Get lost!!”
“Waaah…”

Daddy?! Nope, not happening.

There’s a saying: The closer your hand is to a halberd, the farther you are from your “father.”

Good thing Stelle wielded a baseball bat and not a halberd…

“Big Brother, Clara made it!”

Now that Chen Lin was awake, Clara wiped her teary eyes and spoke with excitement. “I created a machine that can run on its own without human help!”

“Seriously?”

Hearing Clara’s sudden announcement, Chen Lin froze.

He had always thought of Clara as a prodigious talent—someone brimming with potential but lacking opportunities for hands-on experience. To give her more practice, he had casually allocated some resources to her, thinking it wouldn’t matter much even if she failed.

After all, Chen Lin never expected her to produce results in such a short time.

“How’d you do it?” he asked.

“Clara failed many times but eventually thought of the minecarts and tracks everyone uses in the mines. Then I wondered—what if everything could move to fixed locations on its own? It would save so much effort…”

Eager to share her process, Clara recounted every detail of her research and manufacturing journey. The complexity of her explanations was dizzying, and anyone without expertise in those fields would struggle to understand her words.

“Mr. Svarog’s database had so much information Clara didn’t know before. Whenever Clara didn’t know how to solve something, Mr. Svarog would help a lot. Eventually, I realized the metal Big Brother gave me could support the weight of the machine components during transportation…”

“And! Big Brother, you once said that steam has tremendous power. Clara tried to improve things by dividing the machine into several blocks. The blocks, in theory, use steam to drive gears and levers, which generate pressure and movement for transport…”

“Clara hasn’t tested it yet, but based on my calculations, it should work!”

Clara handed Chen Lin a stack of blueprints—so thick that even two hands barely sufficed to hold them. She explained that they were refinements she had made while keeping watch over him these past two days.

After skimming through the schematics, Chen Lin’s mind went blank.

Despite the technological gap, Clara had devised numerous designs that were astoundingly advanced for Belobog’s current state.

Simplified towing devices, budding transmission systems, rudimentary control modules…

Isn’t this just basic machinery with tracks and engines?

What in the world—this girl must be some sort of heavenly prodigy!

“Theoretically, it’s entirely feasible,” Chen Lin confirmed with a nod.

Relieved, Clara’s anxious expression melted into a bright smile. Seeing the expectant look in her eyes, Chen Lin reached out to ruffle her hair.

“Clara is amazing. I’m sure you’ll become a great scientist someday.”

“Ehehe~”

Shortly after, Dan Heng, representing the group’s level-headed adults, began discussing matters concerning the Astral Express with Chen Lin.

“Himeko and Mr. Yang are preparing equipment to seal the Stellaron. However, preliminary tests show that the Stellaron on Jarilo-VI is extraordinarily powerful. They might need help from Interastral Peace Corporation specialists to maintain the device.”

“Uh…” Chen Lin scratched the back of his head awkwardly, looking away. “Honestly, I don’t think sealing it is necessary anymore.”

Dan Heng sighed. “I understand this could take time, but if the Stellaron isn’t sealed, the Fragmentum will continue expanding. The planet’s cold waves won’t subside, affecting navigation routes, and the train won’t be able to move.”

“That’s right!” March 7 chimed in angrily. “The Stellaron is a terrible thing that destroys civilizations. We can’t let it run wild!”

Even Seele added somberly, “I only studied the Stellaron in theory, but I know it’s the root cause of the Fragmentum and the eternal winter. If we don’t deal with it, more Silvermane Guards will die fighting it.”

“No, no, no—that’s not what I meant.”

Chen Lin waved his hand, prompting puzzled looks from the group. He then dropped a bombshell:

“The Stellaron… uh… I kind of ate it. Like, not a trace left.”

“?”

The room fell silent as everyone processed this revelation. Slowly, the group began piecing things together—Chen Lin possessed extraordinary powers, allowing him to interact with and manipulate things beyond normal perception.

Though they hadn’t been able to see him, his voice had guided them during the Stellaron incident.

Naturally, the question arose: What exactly had Chen Lin been doing this entire time?

Faced with so many expectant stares, Chen Lin knew he had to explain himself. He quickly revised his experience inside the Stellaron into a more palatable version.

“Remember how I shielded you all from those ice spears? Afterward, I was completely drained and needed energy fast. When I realized I could convert the Stellaron’s energy for my use, I accidentally got pulled inside it.

"I couldn’t escape at first, but I managed to fight it out with the Stellaron. After a long struggle, I won. Unfortunately, I couldn’t leave, so I gradually absorbed its energy to sustain myself. By the time I realized what was happening, the Stellaron had crumbled into dust, and I naturally came out.”

Dan Heng’s eyes widened. “Unbelievable.”

March 7 was stunned. “Never seen anything like it.”

Stelle pouted. “Never hugged anything like it…”

Dan Heng decided to verify Chen Lin’s claim. Half an hour later, he returned, his expression complicated. He reported the results:

The ice and snow outside Belobog were melting. The Stellaron had vanished without a trace. The unending blizzards had stopped.

The Stellaron was truly gone—devoured by Chen Lin.

When news of this reached the Astral Express, Himeko, mid-discussion about handling the Stellaron, lowered her phone in shock.

Welt raised a brow. “What happened? Something wrong?”

“Chen Lin woke up.”

“That’s good news, but why the face?” Welt asked, sipping from his cup.

Himeko handed him her phone, stretched, and smiled.

“The Stellaron got eaten. Looks like we’ve gone from carrying one Stellaron to two. Letting Chen Lin lead might’ve been the right choice after all.”

Pfft! Welt spat out his drink, hurriedly wiping the table with a tissue. “Sorry… couldn’t help it. Stellaron… eaten?!”

“I’ve never heard of such a thing, but the Stellaron’s signature is indeed gone,” Himeko replied with a shake of her head, glancing at the vast station outside the train.

“Well, Chen Lin is our companion. A few secrets between friends are normal. And Chen Lin’s not someone with malicious intent, is he?”

“True. These powers are… extraordinary.”

Welt glanced at his hands, then out the window, murmuring, “Absolutely extraordinary…”
