The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [251]

“That’s a Ruin Guard’s footprint, right? It’s huge.” Paimon muttered while flying alongside the tracks left by the Ruin Guard.

“Mr. Jax, Traveler, why do you think a Ruin Guard is wandering around here all of a sudden?”

“No idea, but once we handle this, we’ll have a reason to go to Ningguang or Keqing and request a bonus!” Lumine followed the tracks with an enthusiastic grin. “Plus, Ruin Guard cores are worth a lot... though, yeah, they’re tough to deal with.”

Following the trail, the group soon spotted a Ruin Guard sitting motionless on a stone staircase.

“That Ruin Guard’s not moving! Is it a friendly one or a hostile one?” Lumine asked, her gaze cautious as it lingered on the machine.

She had been ambushed by Ruin Guards far too many times to take any chances.

“How about... I test it out and see?”

Jax removed the shield strapped to his back and positioned it firmly in front of him. “Lumine, stay behind me! I’ll block anything it throws at us!”

“Got it!” Lumine quickly ducked behind Jax, not hesitating in the slightest.

Though Jax’s Black Dragon Lance appeared rather plain at first glance, lacking any radiant glow or flashy decorations, its sharp tip and indestructible shield exuded an overwhelming sense of security.

Who wouldn’t appreciate a shield so sturdy it could block almost anything head-on?

With his spear at the ready and shield in place, Jax braced himself, then launched forward in a powerful charge directly toward the Ruin Guard.

The sound of movement stirred the dormant Ruin Guard from its slumber. With a mechanical whirr, it activated, rising to its feet just as Jax closed the distance.

Their clash was immediate.

The sharp spear pierced through the Ruin Guard’s raised arm effortlessly, leaving a gaping hole in the metallic limb. The armor, known for its resilience, seemed as fragile as wood before the Black Dragon Lance.

This spear had been forged specifically to penetrate tough scales and defenses of monsters. Compared to the formidable Elder Dragons it was designed to combat, a Ruin Guard’s armor was hardly a challenge.

Jax even entertained the idea of testing the spear against Zhongli’s shields someday.

“Lumine! This Ruin Guard is operational!” Jax shouted over his shoulder. “Want me to save any materials?”

“Definitely!” Lumine unsheathed her one-handed sword. “I heard Ruin Guard circuits and cores can be used to make some really useful gadgets!”

“Ruin Guard! Hand over your core!” she yelled as she charged forward, swinging her sword with dramatic flair.

After several minutes of combat, the Ruin Guard was reduced to nothing more than a pile of scattered debris. Lumine diligently scavenged anything valuable or potentially useful from the wreckage.

“Mr. Jax, your shield is amazing!” Paimon said, admiring the shield that had withstood everything the Ruin Guard threw at it—blows, cannon fire, and even its spinning arm attack.

“Impressive, huh? And this is just the beginning. Once I’ve had time to forge new gear using materials from the Black Dragon, and figure out how to incorporate jewels properly, you’ll see what real power looks like,” Jax boasted, proudly patting his shield.

“I’m not exaggerating—if I can max out my defensive stats, throw in some resilience boosts, and add a full resistance set, nothing could touch me—not even the old gods themselves!”

Jax spoke with such confidence, but then sighed. “Unfortunately, that’s not really possible right now...”

“Not that I understand any of that, but it sounds like some pretty amazing stuff,” Paimon said skeptically. “Is it really true?”

“Who knows... Let’s just keep looking for more Ruin Guards. The more we clear out, the better,” Lumine replied.

As she spoke, she noticed a child playing near another Ruin Guard that was sitting idly beneath a nearby tower. The child seemed overjoyed, even shouting something about a “One-Eyed Little Treasure.”

“Wait, a kid? That’s dangerous!” Paimon exclaimed, looking concerned. “Traveler, if that child gets hurt, it’ll be bad news. Let’s check it out!”

“Alright,” Lumine agreed, nodding. “Though he seems to really like that Ruin Guard... kind of like Timmy with pigeons.”

“Do little boys usually like Ruin Guards?” Paimon tilted her head in confusion before turning to Jax, the only adult man in their group. “What about you, Mr. Jax?”

“Robots are awesome! They’re the embodiment of justice, coolness, and sheer style!” Jax declared with enthusiasm. “We didn’t have Ruin Guards when I was a kid, but I spent a lot of money on model kits as soon as I could afford them! Assembling them is a pain, though... not to mention the delicate parts break easily.”

“I get that. And sometimes I’m too lazy to sand down the sprue marks,” Lumine added casually, leaving Paimon even more baffled.

“Model kits? Sprue marks? What are those?” Paimon asked, clearly lost.

“Hey! Kid over there!” Jax called out, walking toward the child and the Ruin Guard. “Where are your parents?”

The boy turned to look at the group, his eyes lighting up as he excitedly pointed at the Ruin Guard. “Uncle, and big sister, look! Isn’t it huge and so cool?”

“Figures he’d be a fan of Ruin Guards...” Lumine muttered.

“...” Jax stroked his unshaven chin thoughtfully before turning to Lumine and Paimon. “Do I really look that old? Why does every kid call me ‘uncle’?”

“With how you look, you’re lucky they even call you uncle. If our hair colors matched, people might assume you’re my elder relative when we’re out on commissions,” Lumine teased, patting him on the back. “Unlike me—youthful, radiant, and forever a beautiful maiden.”

“Uncle, big sister! Do you know it?” the boy asked eagerly, gesturing to the Ruin Guard again. “It’s my first time seeing one up close!”
