This Is My Holy Grail War [69]

Rider, leveraging inertia, temporarily broke away from Assassin and dashed toward the first floor of the school, where the battle near the chemistry lab raged. As she unsealed her [Mystic Eyes], her gaze locked onto Saber, who was engaged in combat with Caster.

Her veiled eyes snapped open, revealing a power capable of petrifying even gods—eyes that had once turned the mighty Atlas into stone.

Everything within Rider's sight began to transform. Leaves fluttering through the air, shattered glass fragments, and even the faint atmosphere itself felt heavy, as though gripped by a crushing weight.

However, Saber’s resistance was far stronger than Rider anticipated. Fully petrifying her would take time—a luxury Rider didn’t have.

Knowing this, Rider began to close her [Mystic Eyes] and retreat. But as she turned, a horrifying realization struck her: her own body was beginning to turn to stone.

Her movements slowed, and before she could fully register the sight of Assassin standing nearby, transformed into her likeness, her body froze completely—her shocked expression forever etched in stone.

The air near the chemistry lab was thick with the scent of magic and the remnants of fallen dragon-tooth soldiers.

These skeletal warriors, summoned by Caster, swarmed the confined space, though they posed little threat to Saber. Standing firm before her Masters, Rin and Shirou, Saber shielded them with unwavering resolve.

Even as Caster unleashed bursts of magical energy, Saber’s A-rank [Magic Resistance] nullified the attacks effortlessly. No matter what Caster and her forces tried, Saber remained a steadfast wall of defense, protecting her Masters with unyielding determination.

But then, Saber suddenly hesitated. Her movements faltered, her armor beginning to crack as stony fragments formed across its surface.

Saber’s mana, diminished to B-rank due to Shirou’s limited capacity as her Master, left her vulnerable to the effects of Rider’s [Mystic Eyes]. While her A-rank Magic Resistance mitigated much of the damage, the effects could not be entirely nullified.

Slowly, the petrification began to creep over her.

Elsewhere, Rider—caught in the reflection of her own [Mystic Eyes] through Assassin’s imitation—had fared far worse. With her mana drained to a meager C-rank under Shinji’s command, she had no defense against her own petrifying gaze.

Kuzuki Souichirou observed the scene with keen awareness. Though he didn’t fully understand what had transpired with Rider, he recognized an opening.

Moving like a striking serpent, he delivered a precise, devastating blow to Saber.

Unable to dodge, Saber could only watch as Kuzuki’s reinforced fist crashed into her with incredible force.

BOOM!

Saber was sent flying, landing hard as her body twisted awkwardly under the weight of her partial petrification. Her armor bore the cracks of stone creeping across its surface.

Even so, she struggled to her feet, her will unbroken.

Meanwhile, Rin attempted to cover Saber’s recovery. She pulled a black gemstone from her pocket, hurling it toward Kuzuki with a practiced hand.

But Caster, always vigilant, intercepted.

With a deft incantation, she summoned a shimmering magical shield around Kuzuki. The gemstone detonated harmlessly against it, failing to so much as graze the man.

Rin’s efforts thwarted, she made an impulsive decision. Against all reason, she stepped in front of Saber, positioning herself as a shield.

Just a second! That’s all I need to buy! she thought, her gaze darting to the petrified Rider and the figure emerging behind her—Assassin.

From outside the broken windows, Assassin watched as Rin threw herself into the fray.

"You idiot!" she roared, her voice laced with fury. "Why would you stand in front of Saber like that?!"

Assassin transformed, her appearance shifting into Saber’s as she channeled the last dregs of her mana into a desperate charge.

Kuzuki closed in on Saber, but Assassin’s intervention turned the tide. With a burst of speed, she struck his attack aside, narrowly saving Rin.

But Caster was not one to allow such heroics to go unanswered.

Her robes flared dramatically as she unleashed a barrage of spell circles, each one glowing with destructive power. Like floating cannons, they unleashed beams of radiant energy that streaked toward Assassin.

One of the blasts struck her squarely in the chest.

Assassin staggered, her vision swimming as the last vestiges of her mana drained away. The world grew blurry, and a droning hum filled her ears. She couldn’t tell what happened next, only that she collapsed against the hard floor.

When Assassin came to, she was greeted by a dim ceiling and the faint sound of approaching footsteps.

"Well now... A Servant who can become Saber and Rider. What a delightful gift," Caster said, her voice soft yet laced with malice.

Caster knelt beside Assassin, her sly smile illuminated by the faint glow of magic. From her robes, she drew forth a twisted dagger—her Noble Phantasm, [Rule Breaker].

"Such a shame. A Master so inexperienced paired with such a promising Servant." Caster’s tone was almost mocking as she gently traced a finger along Assassin’s face, trailing it down to her cheek.

"Let me show you how to serve a proper Master."

With a fluid motion, Caster drove the dagger into Assassin’s heart.
