The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [257]

Encased in his heavy, menacing black dragon armor, Jax looked like a manifestation of the Black Dragon itself. His nearly four-meter-long spear and enormous shield made him appear as though he were a fortress given life.

Leaping down from the upper platform, he landed solidly on the ground below, the impact echoing through the ruins. Slowly and deliberately, he advanced toward the Ruin Guard.

The sound of his armored footsteps startled the Ruin Guard from its dormant state. Its single red eye flared to life, and the energy from the glowing enhancement stone flowed into it, drastically amplifying its power.

But it wasn’t just the Ruin Guard.

Suddenly, glowing patterns emerged on the stone walls. With a loud creak, hidden doors opened, releasing a pack of hatchling Geovishaps. The small, rocky creatures rolled forward, their raspy growls filling the air.

From above, a Ruin Hunter descended from the ceiling, its red-glowing enhancements matching the others.

A Ruin Guard, a Ruin Hunter, and four hatchling Geovishaps—all enhanced by the mysterious stone—created a formidable lineup. For most adventurers, this would be a nightmare combination.

But for Jax?

Perfect. Just what I need to test my new gear and battle style.

As these thoughts crossed his mind, the Ruin Guard locked onto him. Its cannon arm hummed, aiming squarely at Jax.

Boom!

A flaming cannonball streaked toward him, leaving a fiery trail in its wake. Jax raised his massive black shield, intercepting the attack head-on.

The cannonball exploded on impact, engulfing Jax in flames and sending shockwaves through the ground. Through the narrow slit of his helmet, Jax’s eyes glinted with a fiery red hue, reflecting the blaze around him.

Several more cannonballs followed, each striking his shield with deafening detonations. Yet, Jax stood unmoving, his feet firmly planted on the ground. Shield raised, he remained an immovable force, like a mountain enduring a storm.

Unlike his usual approach—rushing in with a giant battle axe—Jax chose a more measured strategy this time. He advanced steadily, letting the enemies’ attacks crash against his shield.

A spear and shield might lack the raw power of heavier weapons or the agility of lighter ones, but for those who wielded them...

The true beauty of this combination was the promise of an unyielding defense followed by a devastating counterattack.

As Jax closed the distance, the Ruin Hunter shifted into action. Its dual blades whirred to life, and with a mechanical roar, it lunged at him with incredible speed.

Jax’s sharp eyes tracked the movement through his visor. He sidestepped slightly and braced himself, bringing his shield up just in time to meet the Ruin Hunter’s blades.

Clang!

Sparks erupted as metal clashed against reinforced dragon scales. The impact pushed Jax back slightly, but the Ruin Hunter’s attack had been completely nullified.

“Your move.”

With a powerful thrust, Jax drove his spear into the Ruin Hunter’s midsection. The blade pierced through its metallic shell, the force pinning it to the ground.

“Down you go!”

With a twist of his spear, Jax slammed the Ruin Hunter onto the ground. Then, planting his feet, he rammed his shield into it, using the momentum to charge forward. The Ruin Hunter’s massive frame became a battering ram as Jax pushed it toward the Ruin Guard and the Geovishaps.

The Ruin Guard attempted to brace itself, planting its hand on the Ruin Hunter to hold it back. The ground screeched under the strain as the two mechanical giants clashed, Jax in the middle of the chaos.

Meanwhile, the Geovishaps rolled and leapt toward Jax, aiming for his vulnerable sides.

One of the Geovishaps launched itself from above, slamming into Jax’s armored shoulder with a heavy thud. But instead of flinching, Jax merely shook his head as if brushing off a minor annoyance.

“You little rock lizards think you can damage gear made from Black Dragon materials? Do you even deserve to call yourselves dragons?”

Annoyed by their interference, Jax planted a boot firmly on the Ruin Hunter’s frame and yanked his spear free. With a powerful leap, he skewered one of the Geovishaps mid-air, impaling it clean through.

“Stop jumping around! Just die already!”

The sound of Jax’s battle echoed throughout the ruins—clashes of metal, roars of machinery, and the occasional triumphant shout.

Outside the ruins, Teucer explored the surrounding area with Lumine and Paimon, munching on Liyue dumplings as he admired the ancient architecture.

“Traveler, how much longer do you think Jax will be?” Teucer asked, starting to grow restless.

“Don’t worry, Teucer. Let’s head inside and check on him now,” Lumine said with a smile.

Excited, Teucer eagerly followed her back into the ruins.

As they entered, they were greeted by the sight of a tall figure clad in jet-black armor standing amidst the remnants of destroyed machines and Geovishaps. The eerie glow of the ruins made the armored figure’s silhouette look even more imposing.

“Wah!” Teucer yelped, startled, and quickly hid behind Lumine.

“Jax?” Lumine asked cautiously, recognizing the figure.

The black-armored man turned toward them, his voice muffled by his helmet. “Teucer? Lumine? You’re here already? I was about to come get you.”

Removing his helmet, Jax revealed his familiar face, grinning at them. “Look, Teucer. There’s your One-Eyed Little Treasure, safe and sound. You can play with it—just for a bit.”

He gave Teucer a thumbs-up. “And not just that! There’s also a One-Eyed Flying Treasure over there. But remember, these belong to someone else, so you can’t play with them too long.”

Teucer’s eyes sparkled with excitement as he glanced at the Ruin Guard and Ruin Hunter. “Really?!”

Jax smirked, ruffling Teucer’s hair. “Of course. Or better yet... why not ask your brother to get you one of your own?”
