The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [269]

On the way to Springvale, Jax chatted briefly with Bennett.

To his surprise, Bennett turned out to be a cheerful, optimistic young man. Jax couldn’t quite understand why Katheryne had said he had difficulty finding teammates.

As for Fischl, though her speech was riddled with dramatic flair, she seemed relatively easy to get along with once you adapted to her peculiarities.

“We’re here. This is the area affected by the meteors,” Jax said as the group approached Springvale. He scanned the familiar scenery. “Last time I passed through here, it was for Razor’s request. The boar meat here is excellent…”

“Praise be! The time of absolution is nigh! Rejoice, those who cry for salvation, for the Prinzessin der Verurteilung descends upon this land!” Fischl proclaimed theatrically.

Meanwhile, Jax was more focused on assessing the situation in Springvale.

Nearby, several tents and makeshift shelters had been erected. Inside, many people lay unconscious, their breaths steady but their expressions troubled.

“This looks worse than I expected… That meteor’s influence must be serious,” Jax murmured.

“There’s a group of Knights of Favonius over there. Maybe they can tell us more?” Paimon suggested, pointing toward a group of knights stationed near the affected individuals.

“Good idea,” Lumine agreed. “Fischl, let’s check it out together.”

As the group approached the knights, Fischl stepped forward.

“Mortal, thou art blessed by mine indulgence. Waste not this favor—reveal the secrets of thine investigation at once!”

The knight blinked in confusion, unsure how to respond.

Thankfully, Oz stepped in to smooth things over. “No offense intended, good sir. My lady simply requests any information you can share about the patients here.”

Recognizing Jax, the knight quickly snapped to attention. “Ah, Jax! You’re here to investigate too?” His posture stiffened as memories of past training with Jax surfaced.

“These people touched fragments of the meteor last night and immediately fell into a deep sleep. If you’re investigating, please be careful not to touch the meteors yourselves.”

“Such trivial warnings matter not, for the Prinzessin is shielded by the divine protection of the Immernachtreich,” Fischl declared with a wave of her hand.

Oz, ever dutiful, added, “Milady, it is prudent to heed advice where appropriate.”

“So, touching the meteor causes the same sleep? Any exceptions?” Jax pressed further.

The knight hesitated. “None so far. These people have been asleep for a whole day without waking. Just caring for them has stretched our resources thin.”

“Jax! There’s another group over there helping the patients!” Bennett said, pointing toward another set of tents. “Let’s check it out!”

“Alright.” Jax nodded, then turned to Lumine and Fischl. “Let’s split up to cover more ground. We’ll meet back here once we’re done.”

“No problem!” Lumine responded enthusiastically. “Fischl and I will take one side. You and Bennett handle the other.”

Paired with Bennett, Jax approached another group of Knights of Favonius stationed near the patients.

“Anything new to report?” Jax asked one of the knights.

“All those who touched the meteor fragments fell asleep,” the knight explained. “Some of them mumble in their sleep, as if they’re dreaming.”

“Another thing worth noting,” the knight added after a moment’s hesitation, “is that the surrounding monsters have become unusually agitated since the meteors fell. Acting Grand Master Jean sent us here not only to care for the unconscious but also to protect Springvale.”

Jax’s eyes drifted to a knight lying unconscious in full armor inside one of the tents. “What about him?”

“That’s…” The knight hesitated. “One of us tried to remove a meteor fragment but fell asleep the moment he touched it.”

“It seems only Vision wielders are unaffected by the meteors. Since you don’t have a Vision, Jax, please avoid handling the fragments directly.”

“Don’t worry, Jax!” Bennett said cheerfully, patting his chest. “I’ve got a Vision! Even if you fall asleep, I’ll carry you back!”

“I’ll try to be careful,” Jax replied with a chuckle. Then he asked, “What about those who woke up? Did they say anything before falling asleep again?”

The knight scratched his head awkwardly. “Well… one person woke up to use the restroom. But as soon as he came back, he collapsed again. He did mumble something about a ‘snowy mountain,’ though.”

“Snowy mountain? Do you mean Dragonspine?” Bennett asked, scratching his head. “I’ve been to the base of Dragonspine before, but I fell into an icy lake and couldn’t climb further. Everyone keeps warning me not to go there.”

“I’m not sure,” the knight admitted. “If you really want to investigate the meteors, there’s a fragment in the forest behind Springvale. Since none of us here have Visions, we’re struggling to deal with it. If this young man has a Vision, you might be able to handle it.”

Bennett’s eyes lit up. “Really? I can help?!”

“Sounds like a plan.” Jax nodded. “Let’s go check it out.”

As Jax followed Bennett toward the forest, he found himself pondering. Should he test what would happen if he touched one of the meteor fragments?

Would I collapse like the others? Or maybe… I could use the fragment as a weapon?

“Bennett, let’s head to the forest,” Jax said, patting the boy’s shoulder. “You’re pretty strong, aren’t you? So why do people avoid teaming up with you?”

“Ah, well… I guess it’s because I’m just really unlucky,” Bennett admitted, scratching his head. “But I’m sure I’ll find new members for Benny’s Adventure Team someday!”

His face brightened with determination. “And when I do, it’ll be as amazing as your team, Jax!”

“We don’t even have an actual team…” Jax sighed, then shook his head. “Never mind. Don’t worry about it. For now, we’re teammates. Nothing’s going to go wrong!”

“And if it does…” Jax grinned. “I’ll handle it!”
