The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [299]

“Slimes!” Lumine slapped her hand over Jia Changjiang’s mouth just as his eyes lit up in excitement. “Slimes are good enough! Albedo, go lure some over!”

“No Hydro Mimics necessary!”

Albedo nodded. “Understood.”

Before long, he returned, leading a sizable group of slimes.

Lumine drew her weapon, and she and Jia Changjiang charged into battle. Albedo stood off to the side, notebook in hand, carefully observing and recording every detail of the fight.

“Lumine’s elemental flow is stable, and her elemental reactions behave as expected. It seems the elements themselves haven’t undergone any unusual changes, nor is there anything extraordinary about her interaction with them,” Albedo murmured to himself as he jotted down notes.

“Jax, on the other hand… the slimes’ elemental attacks don’t seem to affect him much. Could it be due to high elemental resistance? Similar to how elemental creatures are immune to their own element… No, it appears to be a natural physical resistance rather than something elemental in origin.”

Albedo’s pen flew across the page as he recorded his observations.

When the battle ended, Lumine wiped her weapon clean and turned to Albedo. “So, what did you find?”

Albedo nodded thoughtfully. “No abnormalities in external elemental flow. The next step would be to investigate your internal elemental systems.”

“Internal? Are you planning to dissect me?!” Lumine hugged her arms protectively.

“No,” Albedo said with a slight smile. “I propose a simpler method: I’ll prepare alchemical potions infused with extracted elemental energy. If you ingest them, we may observe how your body interacts with these elements.”

He turned to Jia Changjiang. “As for you, since your body lacks elemental energy, I’d like you to ingest two different potions, each containing a separate elemental property.”

“Two? Won’t that cause a reaction? What if they overload and explode inside me?” Jia Changjiang asked, half-joking.

“Don’t worry. If all goes as expected, you might feel temporary discomfort, but there will be no lasting harm,” Albedo reassured him.

“And if things don’t go as expected?” Paimon asked skeptically.

“I’ll have contingencies in place,” Albedo said calmly. “And this method might also reveal potential blockages in elemental flow, which could serve as an early warning for health issues. Of course, if any unforeseen reactions occur, they might be more dangerous.”

“No problem,” Jia Changjiang said, clapping Lumine on the shoulder. “If something happens to you, I’ll go find Zhongli and ask Wangsheng Funeral Parlor to handle the arrangements. With our connections, we could probably get a discount—at least 20% off.”

“Get lost! You’re the one who’ll be drinking the potions and causing problems!” Lumine kicked him away.

Albedo, unfazed, carefully tucked his notes away. “The potions require a catalyst for refinement. There’s a mineral called Starsilver on this mountain, some of which will work perfectly as a catalyst.”

“Let’s head to my camp,” Albedo suggested. “We’ll gather some Starsilver along the way. If all goes well, I can prepare the potions once we arrive.”

---

Under Albedo’s guidance, the group collected several chunks of Starsilver as they made their way to his camp. Albedo selected a few pieces suitable as catalysts, while Lumine pocketed the rest for her own use.

The camp itself was set inside a sheltered cave, offering protection from the relentless snowstorms. Inside, there were alchemical tools, bookshelves, and numerous instruments, evidence of Albedo’s extensive research.

After setting up his equipment to prepare the potions, Albedo handed his earlier notes to a familiar face—Timaeus, who was also present at the camp.

“While we wait for the potions, let’s take a look at this,” Albedo said, leading Lumine and Jia Changjiang to Timaeus.

“This is Timaeus, my assistant. You’ve probably seen him around Mondstadt,” Albedo introduced.

Timaeus perked up at the sight of them. “Hello! I just received your experimental data, and I’ve organized everything here!”

He stepped aside to reveal a bulletin board covered with charts, diagrams, and pages of notes.

“…What?” Lumine stared at the cluttered board, dumbfounded. “We just fought some slimes. How did you end up with this much data?”

“Ahaha…” Timaeus scratched his head sheepishly. “Well, the data itself is just part of it. The rest includes projections and… um… some bold hypotheses.”

He pointed to a section of the board. “Based on the elemental interaction data, I’ve theorized some ecological connections between you two and certain Teyvat lifeforms. For instance, I hypothesize that the Traveler has parallels with slimes, and Mr. Jax may share similarities with hilichurl berserkers.”

“…Excuse me?” Lumine blinked, a question mark practically visible above her head. “Slimes?”

Jia Changjiang, equally baffled, touched his face. “Hilichurls?”

Timaeus nodded enthusiastically. “You see, the Traveler can manipulate elemental energy without a Vision, just like slimes, which also lack Visions but can harness elemental power.

“And Mr. Jax, like hilichurl berserkers, exhibits extraordinary physical strength and high resistance to certain elements. Following this line of thought might uncover even more insights!”

“That’s… completely unreasonable!” Lumine protested, scandalized. “How am I anything like those round, squishy blobs? I’m a beautiful maiden, okay?!”

“And I’m pretty sure I don’t share any ancestry with hilichurls,” Jia Changjiang added.

“Well, technically,” Albedo interjected, “slimes are elemental entities, so a more fitting comparison for the Traveler would be Cryo Regisvines or similar beings. Tracing lineage would require us to go all the way back to primordial creation.”

He tapped a note at the top of the board. “And let’s not forget—they’re visitors from another world. If there is a connection, that’s the real mystery worth investigating.”

Jia Changjiang rubbed his face in exasperation. “Still, I doubt I have anything in common with hilichurl berserkers.”

“But you do like fighting as much as they do!” Lumine teased, poking him in the ribs.

Jia Changjiang shot her a look. “And you’re like a Treasure Hoarder with your Mora obsession. If I beat you up, will coins fall out?”

“Dream on! Not a single Mora!”

“So you’re saying it’s fine for me to beat you up, huh?”
