This Is My Holy Grail War [47]
Added 2025-01-16 01:30:46 +0000 UTCWith Assassin’s [Clairvoyance] able to see through almost everything, Rin Tohsaka was overjoyed.
“Well, not everything,” Assassin said, tempering her enthusiasm. “There are still things even I cannot see.”
“This is more than enough!” Rin exclaimed, elated. “I knew it—I summoned the strongest Servant!”
“Now then…” Rin grabbed a dustpan and broom, ready to toss them to Assassin, but he cut her off.
“Let me make it clear—I’m terrible at housekeeping.”
“You—ugh, it’s the [Clairvoyance], isn’t it?” Rin muttered before breaking into a wide grin.
“Amazing! I really am the strongest Master!” She cheered, practically dancing with excitement.
“…Though it’s a shame I didn’t summon Saber,” she added with a pout, still clinging to her father’s notes proclaiming Saber as the strongest class.
“Let me ask, then—who exactly is Saber’s Master?” Rin demanded after confirming Assassin’s powers were genuine.
“Saber’s Master is Shirou Emiya, and their Servant is King Arthur,” Assassin replied. “If I’m not mistaken, he’s one of your classmates, correct?”
“Hmm…” Rin paused, recalling the quiet, unassuming boy. “I do remember him, but most people wouldn’t even notice someone like him. How could he possibly end up in the Holy Grail War?”
“Technically, he was dragged into it,” Assassin explained. “This poor guy witnessed a Servant battle by accident and got his heart pierced in the process. He survived only because you saved him.” Assassin glanced at her meaningfully. “That’s what happened in a parallel world I’ve seen.”
“And what do you plan to do about it, Assassin?” Rin asked, only to feel a sudden, sharp drop in temperature.
“Kill him.”
Assassin’s black mist coiled around him as he raised his sword, a chilling aura emanating from the blade—a Greek-style longsword still steeped in the memory of piercing Iskandar, the King of Conquerors. Were it not for Iskandar’s A-rank endurance, that blow might have claimed his life.
But he’s Sakura’s most important person! Rin froze for a moment, then quickly shouted, “No! He hasn’t summoned Saber yet—he’s not a participant in the Holy Grail War!”
Assassin paused, lowering his sword reluctantly. The chilling killing intent lingered in the air, rattling Rin’s nerves.
This was her first time witnessing such unrelenting bloodlust. Assassin showed no mercy. To him, anyone deemed an enemy would be cut down without hesitation.
“I see… Waiting until he summons Saber before striking would also work,” Assassin mused. “Shirou Emiya’s low aptitude for magecraft means the Saber he summons won’t pose much of a threat. Ensuring Saber doesn’t end up with a more capable Master is a wise strategy. I support your decision, Rin.”
We’re clearly not on the same wavelength, Rin thought, exasperated.
“Forget Saber for now… What about Archer?” she asked, steering the conversation away.
“I don’t know,” Assassin admitted. “Originally, I saw you summoning Archer, but now I’ve replaced him. In other words, my [Clairvoyance] doesn’t see this future—it sees events in parallel worlds. As a student of the Kaleidoscope, you should understand the concept of parallel worlds.”
“Of course,” Rin nodded. As a disciple of the Second Magician’s teachings, she was well-versed in the theory of parallel worlds. After all, her family’s gemstone magecraft originated from the Kaleidoscope.
“That’s why [Clairvoyance] isn’t omniscient,” Assassin clarified. “I see everything in parallel worlds, but those events don’t always reflect the current reality.”
“So it’s more of a reference,” Rin sighed in relief, feeling slightly less overwhelmed. “For now, let’s not worry about Archer or Saber.”
“Understood,” Assassin replied obediently.
“Then tell me about Lancer in these parallel worlds,” Rin continued.
“Lancer’s name is Cú Chulainn, the Child of Light from Ireland,” Assassin explained. “I’m no match for him in direct combat. As an Assassin, my role is to strike from the shadows—not to face one of the Knight Classes head-on.” He emphasized this point again, worried that Rin might send him into an unwinnable fight.
“Moreover, Lancer’s Master is the one who killed your father,” Assassin added, his voice laced with contempt. “Though that, too, is an event from a parallel world.”
“Who is it?!” The atmosphere grew tense as Rin demanded an answer.
“Kirei Kotomine,” Assassin replied, a hint of venom in his tone.
Rin wasn’t entirely surprised by the answer, though she buried her anger deep within. Since it was only a possibility from a parallel world, she resolved to confirm it herself before acting.
“What about Caster?” Rin moved on, eager to extract more information.
“Caster was originally summoned by a magus but turned on their Master,” Assassin explained. “Later, she encountered a teacher in the rain, and through a twist of fate, he became her new Master.”
“If I recall correctly, that teacher’s name is Soichiro Kuzuki,” Assassin continued, his tone darkening. Suddenly, he raised his sword again, startling Rin. “He can be eliminated.”
Kuzuki-sensei?! Rin’s mind flashed to the stoic teacher she knew, her heart sinking.
“Let’s discuss strategies later. For now, just tell me what you know,” Rin said hastily, changing the subject. “What about Rider?”
“Rider’s Master is Shinji Matou, though the true summoner was Sakura Matou. Shinji is merely the official participant,” Assassin revealed. “Since Sakura isn’t involved, I assume you have no objection to dealing with Shinji?”
“What are you planning—” Rin began, only for Assassin to cut her off.
“Kill him.”
“Aaaagh! What kind of Servant did I summon?!” Rin clutched her head in frustration, her voice echoing with despair.
No matter how many questions she asked, she couldn’t shake the sense that this battle-hardened Assassin, shaped by the Fourth Holy Grail War, clashed horribly with her approach as a Fifth War Master.
