The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [235]

Thanks to Lumine’s antics, much of the tension during the sparring session had dissipated, allowing Xingqiu and Chongyun to relax and focus on the match with Jia Changjiang.

The outcome, however, was far from what they’d hoped for.

Despite their combined efforts and teamwork, the three of them were thoroughly outmatched.

Lumine’s initial strategy—having Xingqiu and Chongyun restrict Jia Changjiang’s movements while she went for the decisive strike—ultimately failed. Jia Changjiang evaded their attacks with precise movements or countered their strikes with calculated parries.

And then, without fail, he would toss them to the ground.

This particular method of handling them—quite literally throwing them aside—only fueled their determination to press on, even as their clothes grew dustier with each round.

Xingqiu brought out his refined Guhua sword techniques, while Chongyun employed his family’s exorcism arts to their fullest. For a brief moment, it seemed as though they might gain the upper hand. Jia Changjiang, caught off guard by some of their combinations, nearly lost his footing.

But in the end, he adapted.

When the sparring session finally concluded, Lumine, Xingqiu, and Chongyun lay sprawled on the grass, their clothing smeared with dirt. Jia Changjiang crouched nearby, grinning down at them, his energy seemingly undiminished.

“Well? I told you—I might not have a Vision, but I’m not weak,” Jia Changjiang said with a mischievous smile, resting his chin on one hand. “Still, I have to say… you’re all quite talented for your age.”

He paused, glancing between the trio. “Your martial techniques and exorcism arts… very interesting. I’ve taken note of them.”

“Ugh…” Lumine puffed out her cheeks in frustration. “You always fight like a reckless brute in real battles, but when it comes to sparring, it’s like you’re a completely different person! When are you actually serious?”

“You’re mistaken,” Jia Changjiang replied, wagging a finger at her. “I’m always serious. But when it’s a true fight or duel, I like to enjoy it even more.”

He began counting on his fingers with exaggerated glee. “Another loss for you in sparring, Lumine. Paimon, how many times has Lumine lost to me now?”

“Paimon keeps notes!” Paimon exclaimed, producing a tiny notebook from who-knows-where. Flipping through the pages, she announced, “Twenty-six times!”

“Twenty-six,” Jia Changjiang repeated, poking Lumine’s puffed-out cheek. “Hear that? You’ve lost to me twenty-six times. Maybe it’s time to get serious about improving, don’t you think?”

Frustrated, Lumine retaliated by chomping down on Jia Changjiang’s finger.

“Let go!”

And so, their sparring session ended with playful bickering.

“Even without a Vision, you remind me of Lady Beidou,” Xingqiu remarked, still lying on the grass.

“Mr. Jia’s techniques are truly impressive,” Chongyun agreed, staring at the sky. “No wonder you were able to fend off the sea god. If I could master even more martial skills, perhaps my dream of eradicating all evil spirits might one day come true…”

“Visions are powerful, yes,” he continued, “but this has shown me how crucial martial arts and exorcism techniques are. If I want to improve, I’ll need to work even harder.”

“You’re not wrong,” Jia Changjiang said, seating himself on the grass and joining the others in gazing at the drifting clouds. “A Vision is a tool—a source of power. If you have one, you should make the most of it. But even without a Vision, there’s still a path to strength.”

He paused, his voice taking on a thoughtful tone. “Martial arts and techniques… they’re about making the weak stronger. And when someone discovers their own strength, it’s always something worth celebrating, isn’t it?”

“That’s the future I want to see. A world where anyone can grasp strength, no matter their starting point. Don’t you think that’s something worth looking forward to?”

“That’s a lofty dream,” Lumine murmured, half to herself. “Who knows when that’ll actually happen…”

“Exactly,” Jia Changjiang replied with a grin. “It’s because we don’t know that we can dream about it.”

He lay back on the grass, folding his arms behind his head. “Yeah… definitely worth looking forward to.”

The group lingered on the grassy field, chatting idly as the sun set. When it was finally time to part ways, Lumine made a mental note to clean up the dirt from her clothes and hair.

After yet another defeat in sparring, she reconsidered her recent indulgent routine of eating, drinking, and lazing about. If she wanted to beat Jia Changjiang one day, she’d need to start taking her adventures more seriously.

She pored over a map of Liyue, quickly identifying several commissions near the harbor. Within the next couple of days, she resolved to tackle them one by one.

What Lumine didn’t know was that, at that very moment, a young girl in a witch’s hat was sitting in a small inn on the northern side of Liyue Harbor.

In her dimly lit room, the girl’s eyes focused on an image floating in the air like a reflection on water—an illusion of a starlit night under the moon’s glow.

“It’s still unclear… is it Tomorrow?. Tomorrow, she and her companions will pass through here,” the girl murmured, her voice carrying an air of intrigue. “Fate this murky… It’s worth investigating further.”

She leaned back, her voice dropping to a mutter. “If I complete that old hag’s task, I’ll finally get my hands on some new knowledge… Hmm…”

Suddenly, a loud growl echoed through the room.

“Damn it,” she grumbled, clutching her stomach. “She didn’t even give me enough for travel expenses!”
