Is Unlocking the Stellaris Tech Tree in Star Rail Really Okay? [181]

The port of Starskiff Haven was bustling with activity. Grain, being a critical resource in the Xianzhou Alliance, could not be handled carelessly. Everyone had to work overtime to transport the mountains of grain piled up across several cargo docks.

Fortunately, Fu Xuan wasn’t a bureaucratic stickler for formalities. She waited patiently in line at the port like everyone else, as there was no urgent matter at hand. This trip was merely an excuse for her to slack off for a bit. As the Diviner, she believed it was important to follow regulations rather than abuse her position, setting an example for others.

The real reason, however, was more personal: she didn’t want rumors about her using her status to cut in line to spread. Although such behavior would likely go unnoticed, it still felt beneath her dignity. What if her dear brother heard about it? A man as upright and selfless as he was would surely think less of her for it.

And why did she care so much about his opinion?

Fu Xuan herself wasn’t sure. She just felt that being disliked by him would be too great a loss to bear. She’d already upset him on multiple occasions. If his impression of her worsened any further, there might come a day when he’d no longer acknowledge her as his sister.

She had come to Luofu alone, fleeing a fate she sought to escape, much to the disapproval of her family. Among the people of Luofu, there were few she could truly converse with. The General, perhaps, counted as half a friend, though he often brushed her off.

But her dear brother—he was genuine and forthright, never indulging in roundabout games. What began as a petty quarrel with Jing Yuan had turned into her sincere acknowledgment of her adopted brother.

With a brother so principled, how could she, as his sister, act contrary to those values?

After docking the Starskiff, Fu Xuan gracefully descended, her arms fluttering like butterfly wings as her petite figure landed softly on the ground. She placed her hands on her hips, deep in thought.

Nearby, the port workers of the Sky-Faring Commission watched her with a mix of awe and trepidation as she surveyed them with a cold, indifferent gaze. They dared not make a sound, thinking that the Diviner was in a foul mood today. Some even offered awkward smiles to appease her.

It wasn’t surprising. Everyone had heard about the recent accident in the Divination Commission's sanctuary. Such an incident would sour any department leader’s mood.

Fu Xuan, however, politely nodded to the workers overseeing the Starskiff's docking. This small gesture earned her several warm smiles in return, making her feel validated.

My dear brother was right, she thought. It’s important to treat everyone kindly, regardless of whether they’re from the Divination Commission. After all, as General, these workers will someday be under my command. If I fail to win their loyalty, even the highest position could be undermined by insubordination and deceit.

Her mood brightened considerably.

“Hmm? The hexagrams shift between Gen and Kun… why does my dear brother’s fate appear so ominous?”

As one of Luofu's foremost practitioners of divination, Fu Xuan habitually cast hexagrams to divine future events. While she couldn’t predict distant outcomes, she could perceive vague signs of imminent occurrences. Such abilities were already considered exceptional within the Xianzhou Alliance.

But this time, what she saw was an ominous hexagram. Her earlier good mood instantly soured as her brows furrowed.

This was serious.

Closing her eyes, Fu Xuan activated the third eye on her forehead, which glowed faintly. The powerful computational abilities of the Jade Talisman allowed her to extrapolate the hexagram even without the subject being nearby.

The result was troubling.

Nine deaths and one life?

The hexagram showed signs of change. If no extraordinary action was taken, disaster was almost certain.

“This won’t do. I must contact the General immediately!”

Quickening her pace, Fu Xuan located the general vicinity of Chen Lin’s position through divination. However, given the grave signs in the hexagram, she decided it was imperative to alert Jing Yuan first.

She quickly drafted a warning message to Chen Lin and then called Jing Yuan.

The call connected almost immediately. Before she could speak, Jing Yuan’s commanding voice came through: “Diviner Fu, our wise brother is in peril. Proceed immediately to the Tianshui Pavilion teahouse. I have already dispatched troops. Do not delay!”

Jing Yuan’s tone was uncharacteristically severe. Fu Xuan froze for a moment before realizing that Chen Lin must have already sought the General’s assistance before her.

Why didn’t he contact me first? Is he still mad at me…?

Feeling a pang of grievance, Fu Xuan steadied herself and replied resolutely, “I am already en route, having divined my dear brother’s perilous hexagram.”

“Good. Make haste and ensure his safety. I am heading there personally!”

The General himself is taking action?

Fu Xuan could hardly believe it. Yet, without pausing her brisk pace, she pushed through the dense crowds lining the streets…

Outside the Divine Strategy Manor, a large contingent of elite Cloud Knights had already assembled. Azure Spear, the military tactician, finished preparing the troops and reported back to Jing Yuan, who was already en route.

“Deploy!” came the command.

High above the city, aboard a vessel, Jing Yuan’s face was grim. Clutching his phone, he reread Chen Lin’s alarming messages describing a mysterious entity’s nature and form. His sense of foreboding deepened as the puzzle pieces began to fall into place.

“So, it wasn’t just foot soldiers,” he murmured. “No wonder the Sanctus Medicus dared to act so openly… you’ve infiltrated this far, haven’t you? Lord of Destruction, Phantylia!”

The enemies of the Xianzhou were not limited to the abominations of Abundance. Destruction’s Aeon, Nanook, was infamously recorded in the Xianzhou’s chronicles as the “Calamity Ancestor of Ruin.”

Even among the galaxy’s war-torn histories, the minions of Destruction were reviled. Their unrelenting annihilation of civilizations was antithetical to Xianzhou's ideals of cooperative prosperity, making them enemies of all.

Every sensible faction in the galaxy had engaged with the Legion of Destruction at some point. Many had even formed alliances to oppose them, Xianzhou included.

“The pieces are finally coming together…” Jing Yuan muttered, a bitter smile on his lips. Yet, his unease only grew as he considered the densely populated area where Chen Lin was trapped.

“Brother Chen… how is it that trouble always finds you?”

"You've made great progress. Keep it up, and don't slack off in your future training. I'll step out to get some fresh air."

Chen Lin's words left Phantylia, who was in the middle of removing her clothes, speechless. She froze in place, her hands halting mid-action as her eyes glinted with a murderous light.

Damn it, I’ve screwed up, Chen Lin cursed internally. Realizing the enemy now had killing intent, he didn’t hesitate. Feigning surprise, he turned toward the doorway and exclaimed, "General Jing Yuan! Why are you here?"

Phantylia's nerves tightened, and she instinctively looked back. At that moment, Chen Lin's hand transformed into a claw, a faint violet light bursting into existence. In an instant, it sharpened into a deadly, spectral talon and slashed toward her.

To his surprise, Phantylia made no attempt to dodge. She allowed the psionically charged claw to rip her fabricated body into pieces, blood spraying everywhere. However, at her core, there was a glowing golden sphere radiating an energy Chen Lin immediately recognized—it was eerily similar to the Stellaron's destructive essence.

Energy of Destruction!

“Shit!” Chen Lin swore. He knew the moment he attacked, there was no turning back. His eyes narrowed, and with a burst of energy, the window beside him shattered.

His instincts screamed at him to escape through the window. This creature in front of him was far beyond his ability to handle. Fleeing was a primal, survival-driven decision.

If worst came to worst, he could retreat to Jarilo-VI. However, if he did, what would happen to March 7th, Uncle Yang, and Qingque downstairs?

At the very least, I need to make enough noise for someone to notice, he thought. If I can’t beat this thing, I can at least lead it away.

But Phantylia’s speed was terrifyingly fast—so fast that it surpassed his reaction time entirely.

Just as the window shattered, she transformed into a streak of starlight and shot straight into Chen Lin’s mind. His body stiffened abruptly before collapsing like a puppet with its strings cut. A protective psionic sphere formed around him, deepening in color until his figure was obscured.

Phantylia was both astonished and ecstatic. She had succeeded—she had infiltrated Chen Lin’s Sea of Consciousness despite his heightened vigilance.

Within the realm of consciousness, Phantylia was invincible. She could manipulate its energies at will, reshaping her form into anything she desired.

In the vast, empty expanse of Chen Lin’s Sea of Consciousness, Phantylia gradually assumed a human form. She was tall, with an alabaster oval face, flowing long hair, and slender, delicate fingers.

By any measure, this appearance was flawless—a form designed to charm anyone, regardless of gender or age.

She surveyed her surroundings. None of her abilities felt restricted here. The problem, however, was the sheer expanse of the place.

Chen Lin’s consciousness stretched endlessly in every direction, filled with a pervasive violet energy. This pure, primordial energy was a treasure trove to her—a resource capable of forging a perfect vessel.

“Oh, my benefactor, you’re truly my greatest blessing…” Phantylia smirked, her voice tinged with satisfaction. Compared to this, even the legendary Ambrosial Arbor paled in comparison. If she could integrate with this, the results would be unimaginable.

She had stumbled upon a priceless gem.

Hmm?

After wandering for a while, Phantylia noticed something peculiar—a massive, silver-white sphere. A significant portion of the pure psionic energy seemed to emanate from it.

But as she approached, an unsettling familiarity crept over her. Why does this look so familiar? Where have I seen this before…?
