Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [162]

A massive slab of stone floated into the air before being tossed aside.
Standing beside her Alakazam, Sabrina waved her hand, dispersing the psychic barrier that had shielded both herself and Blue.
"Phew, that was terrifying… Almost got buried alive," Blue patted her chest before sticking out her tongue. "Thanks, Sabrina, you really saved me there."
The sudden explosion had wreaked havoc on the heart of Team Rocket’s New Island base. Now, looking around, all she could see was devastation.
Although she had been slightly at odds with Sabrina earlier due to August, she had to admit—if not for Sabrina’s quick reaction, things might have ended badly for her.
"It was nothing," Sabrina brushed off imaginary dust from her outfit. Then, narrowing her eyes, she muttered, "August just sent his message, and then this happened… He didn’t do something crazy again, did he?"
Given August’s history, Sabrina’s first instinct was to suspect him.
[I can’t believe you’d slander me like this, Sabrina.]
August’s voice crackled through their earpieces.
In the background, the faint sounds of battle and explosions could be heard.
Sabrina: [...]
She had forgotten—they had all been patched into the combat channel before the explosion.
Hearing the ongoing commotion, Blue’s expression tensed. [August, what’s your situation?]
[Mew just blocked the explosion’s shockwave for us. Right now…] August glanced up at the sky. [Mewtwo and Giovanni’s Beedrill are locked in an intense battle.]
To be honest, August found the whole thing darkly amusing. Mewtwo’s sudden outburst had definitely pushed Giovanni over the edge.
He had been willing to endure reasonable losses if it meant capturing Mewtwo, but the damage Mewtwo had just caused? That was far beyond “reasonable.”
Though Giovanni had managed to defend himself using Aggron and Beedrill’s [Protect], the reality was undeniable—nearly one-tenth of Team Rocket’s entire New Island base had been reduced to rubble.
That might not sound like much at first, but considering that Mewtwo was in the absolute core of the facility—where Team Rocket stored some of their most valuable research and cutting-edge equipment—this was a catastrophic loss.
Then, an unfamiliar voice chimed in. [Did you just say… Giovanni?]
Blue looked puzzled.
Sabrina and Blaine, both Gym Leaders, immediately recognized the voice.
[Lorelei of the Elite Four?] Sabrina asked.
Even if she hadn’t recognized her immediately, August had mentioned that Lorelei was supposed to provide reinforcements. That alone was enough to confirm her identity.
[Sabrina…? You’re here too? It’s me. Hold on a second—] Lorelei’s voice cut out briefly, followed by the sound of explosions and pained screams.
Then, she was back. [Ran into a Team Rocket squad while landing. What’s this about Giovanni?]
At this moment, Giovanni was still fighting Mewtwo, his shirt bearing the red “R” insignia of Team Rocket. August didn’t bother with suspense.
[Giovanni is the leader of Team Rocket.]
Dead silence.
Even the Rocket grunts Lorelei had been chasing were momentarily forgotten.
Lorelei’s mind completely blanked.
Giovanni? The kind, upstanding Gym Leader of Viridian City… is the leader of Team Rocket?!
She wasn’t sure whether she had lost her mind, or if the world had.
...
August had no idea that his words had just sent Lorelei into a spiral.
But at this moment, he had no time for idle chatter—because Giovanni and Mewtwo’s battle had reached its peak.
The sky was thick with the sandstorm whipped up by Nidoking.
Within the storm, Giovanni’s three Pokémon moved freely, perfectly trained to navigate through the obscured battlefield. Even Beedrill, despite being airborne, had undergone special training to minimize the sandstorm’s effect on it.
Both sides bore visible injuries from the prolonged fight.
Nidoking had taken a stone shard to one of its eyes, forcing it to rely on its other eye for vision.
Rhyperior’s left arm had been crippled by a [Swift] attack from Mewtwo, rendering it unusable.
Aggron was in slightly better shape, though its once-shining silver armor was now covered in dirt and scratches, giving it a dull, battle-worn appearance.
Beedrill, playing its role as an assassin, remained the least injured.
As for Mewtwo, it wasn’t in great shape either.
Beyond multiple abrasions and bruises, the most alarming wound was a purplish gash on its chest—a direct result of its clash with Beedrill earlier.
"Mewtwo has been poisoned." August stated.
The effects were undeniable—its combat abilities were dropping at a visible rate.
Hearing this, Mew suddenly grew frantic.
If this continued… Wouldn’t that mean Mewtwo was going to be captured by Giovanni?!
The battle raged on.
Nidoking lifted a massive boulder and hurled it at Mewtwo, using [Rock Tomb] to try and restrict its movement.
Meanwhile, Rhyperior’s horn crackled with electricity, gathering power before unleashing a [Thunderbolt] toward Mewtwo.
Still airborne, Mewtwo twisted and turned, dodging the attacks—though its poisoned condition was clearly slowing it down.
It managed to avoid [Rock Tomb], but its psychic barrier was struck head-on by the [Thunderbolt], causing waves of energy to ripple across the shield.
And that was just the beginning.
The most dangerous attack came from Aggron, whose [Hyper Beam] tore through the battlefield, obliterating everything in its path.
Furious, Mewtwo retaliated, forming a Shadow Ball in its hand and hurling it at Aggron.
Normally, Aggron would be forced to stop its attack and dodge the incoming projectile.
But this time—it didn’t.
Completely ignoring the [Shadow Ball], Aggron continued its Hyper Beam assault.
This unexpected tactic led to an unexpected outcome.
Because it had taken a moment to launch [Shadow Ball], Mewtwo failed to evade Aggron’s [Hyper Beam] in time.
BOOM!
Both attacks landed simultaneously—
The [Hyper Beam] slammed into Mewtwo’s weakened energy barrier, shattering it upon impact.
The sheer shockwave of the blast tore through the battlefield, dispersing much of the swirling sandstorm.
And in that critical instant, Beedrill—who had been lying in wait—suddenly vanished from its position.
In the blink of an eye, it pierced through the explosion, emerging right beside Mewtwo.
Its razor-sharp poisoned stinger tore through the weakened remains of Mewtwo’s barrier—
—and drove straight for Mewtwo’s throat.
