Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [203]

New Bark Town — Professor Elm’s Laboratory

August nudged Silver forward. “Professor Elm, we’re counting on you!”

Silver, who had just been pushed to the front, looked a little uncomfortable. No matter how you looked at it, he couldn’t really be considered a rookie Trainer anymore… and yet, here he was, receiving a starter Pokémon like a first-timer.

Professor Elm handed over a Poké Ball containing Totodile and a Pokédex he’d already prepared, waving it off casually. “It’s no trouble at all.”

Truth be told, when Professor Oak first called and said a new Trainer would be coming to get a starter from him, Elm had been surprised.

After all, Oak had the Kanto starters. Coming all the way out to Johto to pick up a starter Pokémon felt like going out of one’s way for no reason.

But once he saw August, everything clicked.

With his status, Professor Elm had access to some classified information—he instantly recognized August as the one who had recently defeated Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket. A rising star in the League.

And coupled with the news of Mahogany Gym being attacked by Team Rocket just days ago…

He had a theory. “Mr. August, are you here in Johto to deal with Team Rocket?”

To Elm, it only made sense—August had come to combat Team Rocket, and helping someone get a starter Pokémon was probably just a pit stop along the way.

August thought for a moment. “Hmm... In a sense, I suppose.”

His primary goal was the Masked Corps, but that didn’t stop him from hitting Team Rocket where it hurt along the way.

Professor Elm was visibly relieved. “That’s excellent news… Team Rocket’s been far too aggressive lately!”

“They’ve been showing up near my lab more and more these days. I’ve reported it, and Officer Jenny even investigated, but came up empty.”

August’s brow furrowed. “Really? They’re even bold enough to poke around here?”

He would’ve thought Rocket was already busy scrambling because of the Masked Corps. Who knew they still had time to mess with Professor Elm?

Still, August couldn’t stay long—he needed to connect with the Johto Gym Leaders soon.

So…

His gaze shifted to Silver, who was bonding with his newly received Totodile.

“Silver, the organization’s giving you a very important mission.”

...

After leaving the job of protecting Professor Elm’s lab from Team Rocket to Silver, August headed off with Blue and Sabrina.

As they left, Sabrina asked, “You sure it’s okay leaving that kind of job to him alone?”

August had previously mentioned that Silver had lost to Blue’s rival, Gary.

And in Sabrina’s opinion, Gary was already kind of mid. If Silver lost to him, was he really qualified to take on Team Rocket solo?

Hearing that, August turned to Blue. “Sabrina’s underestimating your little brother—aren’t you going to say something?”

Blue rolled her eyes and ignored August’s attempt to stir the pot.

She kept her head down, focused on analyzing intel August had just gotten from a contact. With the fight against the Masked Corps looming, she needed to stay razor-sharp.

Sabrina folded her arms smugly. “Hmph. Don’t think you can drive a wedge between me and Blue.”

Seeing that Blue didn’t take the bait, August looked disappointed.

He turned to the still-smug Sabrina and muttered, “Don’t bother pushing ‘em together. Even if you squeeze hard, nothing’s going to form.”

The grin on Sabrina’s face froze instantly.

It took her a moment to react. She looked down, just about to snap back—when a figure suddenly appeared on the road ahead.

A boy with goggles on his head, a single-strap bag over his shoulder, a billiard cue slung across his back, and an Aipom perched on his shoulder was sprinting toward them.

August raised an eyebrow.

If he wasn’t mistaken… that was Gold, wasn’t it?

And behind him—Team Rocket?

He’d sent Silver to investigate Team Rocket, yet he was the one running into them first.

“Move—get out of the way!”

Gold yelled as he saw August and the others blocking the path.

“Sabrina.”

August turned toward her.

For now, Sabrina pushed aside the insult she’d just received and released her Alakazam. Its eyes lit up with a blue glow.

In an instant, the charging Gold froze mid-motion.

“Hey! What are you doing?! Let me go!” Gold shouted.

He was in the middle of running for his life, and these people weren’t just ignoring him—they’d gone and trapped him?

The Rocket grunts chasing him had also caught up by now, and spotting Sabrina among the group, the lead grunt called out reflexively:

“Lady Sabrina?!”

Gold froze in terror.

This woman… she’s with Team Rocket too?!

Damn it—am I really gonna get caught by them?!

“Let me go, you Team Rocket witch!” Gold thrashed against the psychic hold, even trying to get Aipom to attack Sabrina—only for Alakazam’s telekinesis to keep him completely immobilized.

But when Sabrina heard what he called her, her gaze shifted from the Rocket grunts… to Gold.

A dangerous look crossed her face. “What did you just call me? A witch?”

Under her piercing glare, even someone as fearless as Gold swallowed hard in nervous silence.

“Alright, Sabrina, quit scaring the kid… Let’s deal with Team Rocket first,” August said.

Sabrina reluctantly tore her eyes away from Gold and turned back toward the grunts.

By now, they’d realized something important—this “Lady Sabrina” had defected from Team Rocket.

But rather than thinking about taking out a traitor…

“Retreat!”

The squad leader didn’t care about the meddling kid anymore. He immediately turned to flee.

Sure, Sabrina might’ve left Team Rocket—but her strength hadn’t gone anywhere.

Trying to fight her with their current squad? They might as well walk themselves to jail.

But since they’d made it all the way to her face…

Sabrina wasn’t going to let them leave.

She flashed a dazzling smile, and with a wave of her hand, the spoons in Alakazam’s grip lit up with a blue glow.

The next moment, the Team Rocket grunts who tried to flee found their feet leaving the ground—they were levitating, helpless.

One of the grunts managed to release a Pokémon just in time—an Arbok lunged straight for Sabrina, aiming to force Alakazam to divide its attention and give the others a chance to escape.

But…

Boom.

A puff of smoke, and a Blastoise appeared right in front of Sabrina, intercepting the incoming Arbok.

“Don’t act like we’re not here too~” Blue grinned.

As she spoke, Blastoise’s arm glowed with power—[Mega Punch]—and slammed straight into Arbok’s gut with bone-crunching force.
