I, the Geo Archon Morax with 2.1 Billion Mora, Have Joined a Chat Group [252]

Teyvat World
Liyue Harbor
Zhongli’s Residence

Seated in the courtyard, Zhongli looked at the chat group interface with a satisfied expression.

A few seconds later, he tapped on the mission just submitted by Kumoko and confirmed to accept it.

As expected, a line of bolded black text immediately appeared across the chat interface:

[Current user’s individual power level exceeds the transmission limit of the Low-Level Mission Card. Please abandon the mission, or urge the mission creator to upgrade it to a High-Level Mission Card.]

Zhongli was just about to unhesitatingly break one of his fingers to manifest a weaker avatar to accept the mission—

—when he suddenly remembered something Guizhong had once said to him:

[I don’t like it when you break your fingers like that. It looks painful. Use a different method next time.]

Zhongli hesitated, then changed his approach. Instead of snapping a finger, he simply tapped lightly on the tip of it.

Several drops of warm blood trickled forth and were absorbed into the spacetime transfer system linked to the group chat.

In the next instant, the energy of teleportation dissipated. The blood vanished without a trace, leaving Zhongli quietly sipping tea from the cup before him.

Near the Exit

Kumoko’s nest.

After spending 1,000 points to activate the mission, she hadn’t seen any kind of dramatic light or animation.

Even with her spatial awareness, detection, and wisdom-based skills, she hadn’t received the slightest signal—until a human figure suddenly appeared in front of her.

It was a tall, humanoid man, seemingly around twenty-three or twenty-four years old, dressed in unmistakably traditional Chinese attire that didn’t match this world at all. He gave off a distinct air of calm and gravitas.

“Mr. Zhongli.”

The words came from the pale spider—about half the height of a person—spoken in Japanese, a language from Earth.

Zhongli, who had long since mastered all languages used across the group chat worlds, nodded slightly and replied in the same tongue:

“Hello, Kumoko.”

Having said that, he didn’t speak further. Instead, he furrowed his brows slightly and directed his gaze to the ground beneath his feet.

“What is it?” Kumoko tilted her head, puzzled by where he was looking.

“This world is dying,” Zhongli said softly. “No, perhaps that’s too grand... It’s this planet that is dying.”

“The life force of this world is fading. The planet as a living entity is teetering on the edge of collapse.”

“All it would take is a single snowflake, and this world would be truly dead.”

“That’s right!” Kumoko folded her two front limbs together and nodded in a surprisingly human-like way. “When I evolved into Shadow of Death, my Taboo reached Level 10. That’s when I learned the truth of this world.”

“Miss Taboo told me: this world is badly damaged, severely lacking in [MA] energy. If it isn’t replenished soon, it’ll collapse within a few years, and everything living here will die.

“She also told me that this world’s [MA] energy is drawn from the skill packages extracted from human souls after death. Those packages are what we call skills.”

“Additionally, she said the reincarnation system here is closed-loop—after death, souls are reincarnated into this same world. But reincarnation consumes MA energy from the soul, and once it's drained too many times, the soul disintegrates and can never reincarnate again.”

“So yeah, it’s a mess of a world. But I’ve gotten used to it.”

“And the administrators?” Zhongli folded one arm across his chest and rested his chin on his other hand. “Are they the gods of this world?”

Kumoko shook her head. “No idea, honestly. Maybe just like game admins? I mean, this world is basically one giant fully immersive 3D RPG, with a working timeline system, monster evolution through combat, and all that. If it were just a game, it’d be amazing.”

Her tone suddenly dropped, though.

“But if I had to actually live through it... then no way, not in a million years.”

Zhongli reached out and gently patted her smooth, shiny white carapace. “By common theory, ever since you joined the chat group, your life should no longer be in danger. If you’re willing, you can spend just 1,000 points to move to another world and live there.”

“That’s true,” Kumoko said, her gloom fading in under a minute.

Then she suddenly remembered that ominous feeling she’d had earlier. Scuttling over in her little spider steps, she stopped right in front of Zhongli.

“Mr. Zhongli, Mr. Zhongli~”

She forced what she thought was a very warm and friendly smile.

“Would it help if I demonstrated some of my skills for you? Do you need me to show how they work?”

“That won’t be necessary—at least not for now.”

Zhongli shook his head slightly. “For the moment, the specifics of your abilities aren’t all that useful to me. I’m currently observing and analyzing the operational logic of this world’s skill system. However, since the Low-Level Mission Card can only transmit a fragment of my power equivalent to a single drop of blood, my computational capacity here is limited. I can’t fully analyze everything instantly.”

“Still, my main body has already acquired the coordinates of this world. It’s drifting through the void toward this location.”

“We could walk around this world a bit. That would help me understand its structure.”

“Uh... okay.” Kumoko’s attempt to curry favor hadn’t worked, and she gave a tiny twitch of her mandibles at Zhongli’s calm response.

“Actually, Mr. Zhongli... I’m kind of afraid to go outside right now.”

“Why?” Zhongli looked at her, puzzled. “From what I’ve observed, there are very few beings within this labyrinth—or even in the broader lands beyond—that could truly harm you.”

“What are you afraid of?”

“Haha~ as expected of the mighty immortal, Mr. Zhongli,” Kumoko chuckled, slipping in a compliment. “Thing is, I bought a skill from the chat group: [Martial Art – Sudden Impulse]. And every time I prepare to leave the labyrinth, that skill warns me that going forward may lead to my death.”

“Hmm. Martial arts skills differ from magic, cultivation techniques, or divine arts—they’re more like subconscious reflexes of one’s physical body,” Zhongli murmured thoughtfully. “You might want to consider whether there’s an enemy you’ve forgotten.”

“Actually... yeah. Over the last few days, I went over all my enemies again,” Kumoko said, nodding to herself.

“There is one really strong enemy I’ve been subconsciously ignoring.”

“Who?” Zhongli’s voice was calm.

“My mom. Yep—my biological spider mom, the one whose body I inherited.”

Kumoko’s face was dead serious.
