The “mom” Kumoko spoke of referred to the enormous spider residing in the lower levels of the Great Elroe Labyrinth.

Its scientific name: Queen Taratect.

Beyond that, Kumoko didn’t know much else.

With her two forelimbs crossed in front of her chest like a scholar, Kumoko began explaining confidently to Zhongli:

“When I fought the fire dragon in the middle layer of the labyrinth, I noticed something strange. Based on my usual personality, I should’ve dodged its attacks, retreated strategically, and looked for a better opportunity to fight again later.”

“But that time, the moment I laid eyes on the dragon, I had this overwhelming urge to take advantage of its injury and kill it then and there.”

“That’s not normal.”

“So after the battle, I checked myself over. That’s when I discovered a seed that my mother had planted deep within my mind.”

“As a spider born from her eggs, my brain naturally carries a kind of mental shackle she placed in me. If she wants to, she can turn me into her puppet. That fight with the fire dragon? That wasn’t me acting rationally—it was her influence. Normally, I’d never be so reckless with my life.”

“So, I followed the mental thread back and sent one of my parallel minds directly into her body to attack her.”

“A battle of the soul?” Zhongli narrowed his eyes slightly. “That’s extremely dangerous. Even if your soul is stronger than your mother’s, any damage suffered in a soul-level confrontation could have long-lasting consequences for your future.”

“No need to worry!”

Kumoko puffed up with pride and gave a confident nod. “I’ve got a skill that makes me immune to outside interference. There's no way I could suffer soul damage!”

“Oh? There’s a skill that convenient?” Zhongli looked mildly surprised, but nodded in interest. “This system’s skill design is intriguing—it’s certainly piquing my curiosity.”

“Well, putting that aside.” Zhongli turned his gaze toward the spider about half his height. “Kumoko, what’s your next move?”

“If I were to offer a suggestion, I’d prefer you leave this labyrinth entirely. I want to see for myself what’s causing that sense of danger you mentioned. From what I’ve seen, you’re already incredibly strong.”

“Of course, if you’d rather head to the lower levels and confront your mother first, I’ll assist you with that too.”

Kumoko hesitated, thinking hard.

After about a minute, she cautiously raised a foreleg and spoke with great deliberation.

“Then I’ll be counting on you, Mr. Zhongli. Honestly, I’m not sure if my mother is the one triggering that sense of foreboding. Going straight in for a fight would be reckless. She can’t leave the labyrinth anyway, and as long as I do leave it, with my ‘Outside Interference Nullification’ and my parallel minds, I’ll basically be untouchable.”

“Rather than charge in now, I’d rather go outside with you, set up a trap somewhere, and lure her out. Let her walk into our hands.”

“A sound plan,” Zhongli agreed easily. “Let’s move out, then. Most of this body’s computational resources are focused on analyzing the structure of this planet’s system, so if you get into a fight, I may not be able to help much.”

“???” Kumoko instantly deflated at those words.

“Of course, when it comes to something like your mother in the labyrinth, I can still deal with her easily. Don’t worry.” Zhongli gave her a reassuring pat on the shell of her carapace, a faint smile on his lips. “I’m actually looking forward to this—meeting the people of this world, uncovering the powers that lie beneath its surface.”

“Phew~! You really had me there for a second, Mr. Zhongli,” Kumoko patted her little chest and grinned. “Almost scared the life out of me.”

“Well then, let’s get outta this labyrinth! Go! Go! Go!! Let’s head for blue skies, white clouds, and sweet delicious fruit!”

She looked up.

Above her wasn’t the familiar rocky ceiling of the labyrinth, but a vast, endless blue sky.

She looked down.

Below wasn’t drab stone or colorless walls, but green grass and brilliant red flowers blanketing the landscape.

She looked around.

No more grotesque monsters—just a man in his early twenties, dressed in traditional Chinese-style robes that clashed wildly with this world’s aesthetic.

Feeling Kumoko’s gaze on him, the young man tilted his head and asked calmly, “Something wrong?”

“No, nothing,”

Kumoko quickly averted her gaze, turning her head away with what looked suspiciously like a bashful twitch.

Seconds later, she was once again immersed in the sky and the scent of life—a world she hadn’t seen or felt in what felt like forever. Her thoughts began spiraling.

Ahhh~~! This is amazing!!
I finally made it out of the Great Elroe Labyrinth!
One of my goals as a spider has officially been achieved—escaping that dark pit! Now then... what should I do next??

As that thought crossed her mind, something strange tickled her senses, and she abruptly stopped in her tracks.

“Mr. Zhongli.”

“Yes?” The handsome man turned around again.

“This might be a bit sudden... but would it be alright if I used my Appraisal and Wisdom skills on you?”

The snow-white spider rubbed her scythe-like forelimbs together a little nervously.

“Hmm?” Zhongli’s expression remained calm, but interest flickered in his eyes. “A fine idea. No matter what this skill system ends up detecting, it could be valuable for my analysis.”

“I give you permission.”

Kumoko nodded earnestly. “Then I’ll start now.”

The next moment, the powers of Appraisal and Wisdom descended from this world’s system, channeled through Kumoko’s soul and cast upon Zhongli.

And in the next second—

Kumoko clutched her head in agony.

It felt like dozens of drills were boring into her brain all at once.

If she didn’t have her Pain Resistance skill, this level of pain might’ve literally killed her.

Fortunately, the agony was short-lived.

After only two seconds, the world in Kumoko’s eyes shifted completely.

In her mind, the system echoed with a series of chaotic messages:

[Appraisal initiated.]
[Warning: Appraisal failed.]
[Warning!! Warning!! Appraisal system error detected.]
[Warning!! Warning!! Massive data overflow… Data crashing… System failure…]
[WARNING!! WARNING!! WARNING!! LEVEL 3 ALERT. ADMINISTRATOR REQUIRED! @#%!@#%@%]
[Appraisal system critical failure… Attempting to activate backup protocol…]

Huh???

Kumoko’s mind was filled with question marks.

Wait, what? The system… crashed?
