I, the Geo Archon Morax with 2.1 Billion Mora, Have Joined a Chat Group [265]

Now that Demon Lord Ariel had departed, Zhongli and Kumoko naturally saw no reason to linger.

The two exchanged a brief glance, and with Zhongli taking the lead, they swiftly dashed toward the location where Kumoko’s classmate was on the brink of death.

The twenty kilometers passed in less than five minutes.

They stopped at the edge of a steep slope overlooking a roadside carriage, not far from the scene of the crisis.

A few odd-looking wyvern-like creatures—jumping drakes, in Kumoko’s estimation—were hitched to the cart.

The carriage sat still by the road. A group of armored guards was engaged in combat with a larger force of bandits.

Honestly, the fight looked pretty pathetic to Kumoko.
A bunch of amateurs clawing at each other.

If she really wanted to, she could wipe all of them out in one go with a single Evil Eye attack.

“My classmate is down there?” she asked, puzzled.

Zhongli gave a small nod. “Inside the carriage. Being held by a woman—likely her mother.”

“She... so this classmate’s a girl, huh?”

Kumoko tried to recall which female classmates she’d gotten along with best.

—Hmm~~

—Doesn’t seem like there were any.

With a hint of resignation, she gave up on the memory. Meanwhile, the battle below was nearing its conclusion.

The guards were all injured and had collapsed to the ground.

A few bandits approached the carriage, leering and shouting something inside.

Kumoko didn’t catch exactly what they said.

Then, from inside the carriage, a young noblewoman in an old-fashioned lace gown stepped out—cradling a baby in her arms.

Kumoko’s [Appraisal] triggered instantly.

And in the next moment, she received the identity data of everyone in her field of view—especially the infant.

[Race: Human (Vampire, True Ancestor), LV1]
[Name: Sophia Keren (Akiko Negishi)]

“Oooh~~ Ooooh~~~! Oooooh~~ So it’s Akiko Negishi!”

Kumoko let out a cheerful little cry.

But then, the excitement dulled into hesitation.

“Akiko Negishi... Akiko Negishi...”

“Wait, who’s Akiko Negishi again??”

To be honest, Kumoko could remember everyone’s faces from class—but putting names to those faces? That was a challenge.

She’d never really paid much attention to her classmates’ lives.

She racked her brain for a while, digging through the mental fog—until one nickname floated to the surface:

Sadako.

She had no idea why that name came to mind, but the moment it did, it clicked—Akiko Negishi was Sadako.

Then the memories began to return, slowly, like a leaking faucet.

“Oh, so it’s Sadako—another outsider like me. I barely remembered her real name because I always used her nickname.” Kumoko muttered to herself. “Actually… if it weren’t for that nickname, I probably wouldn’t have remembered. I guess nicknames really do leave a stronger impression than real names, huh?”

Her quiet ramblings were ignored by Zhongli.

He simply pointed toward the scene below, where the bandits were now tugging at the noblewoman’s dress, exposing large swaths of her pale, delicate skin.

“Aren’t you going to help?” he asked. “If you wait too long, your classmate will be abducted, and her mother will be... defiled.”

“Oh—!”

That was all Kumoko needed to hear.

“I’m on it.”

With a flick of her forelegs, she launched herself into the air.

Moving at speeds well beyond what any of the bandits could react to, she slashed with her scythe-like limbs—one stroke, and a bandit’s head hit the ground.

Immediately after, she cast [Earth Magic: Stone Spikes]. Like the legendary vampire grand duke’s impaling punishment, the remaining bandits were skewered in an instant—left twitching like macabre candy apples.

Blood spilled everywhere. Entrails splattered across the dirt.

The noblewoman, pale and expressionless until that moment, suddenly stumbled back in terror at the sight of the monstrous spider and the slaughter she had wrought—forgetting entirely how much of her body was exposed, clinging desperately to her child.

Seeing her reaction, Kumoko scratched her head awkwardly with a foreleg.

Then, an idea struck her.

She turned toward one of the barely conscious servants—a man in a butler uniform—and cast a healing spell on him.

Moments later, the butler sprang to his feet, alert and composed. He immediately grabbed a sword off the ground and moved to shield the noblewoman.

“You—what are you?!” he shouted at Kumoko.

“You can call me Kumoko.”

Her raspy voice forced out a near-growl in human speech—though inwardly, she was grateful Zhongli had granted her a [Magical Communication] skill during his partial skill system analysis.

Without it, she wouldn’t have been able to speak at all in her current spider form.

“A talking monster?!”

The butler and noblewoman exclaimed in unison.

“That’s right, that’s right,” Kumoko said with a tired tone. She waved her forelegs dismissively and muttered:

“Talking monster Kumoko, reporting in. Stylish as ever.”

But of course, the people of this world didn’t grasp the humor.

They exchanged a silent look and gave each other a subtle nod.

Then, the butler stepped forward and asked respectfully:

“Great Lady Kumoko, may we offer you something in return for your help?”

“Huh? That’s not necessary.” Kumoko hadn’t even considered the idea of payment.

“Do you require blood… or human corpses?”
The butler asked, trembling.

Kumoko blinked in surprise. She looked from the butler to the noblewoman, then glanced down at baby Sophia Keren (a.k.a. Akiko Negishi) in her mother’s arms, still motionless.

She suddenly lost all interest.

Waving her forelegs once again, Kumoko disappeared with a whoosh, reappearing seconds later beside Zhongli atop the slope.

“What’s wrong? Why not speak with them? This could be your first step toward returning to a normal human life,” Zhongli asked, hands folded behind his back, his tone mild.

“Nothing much,” Kumoko shrugged. “It’s just… that baby might be my former classmate, but her mind clearly hasn’t matured enough to carry her old memories. She can’t even talk yet. It’s kinda… boring.”

She spread her forelegs wide.

“Besides, even if I remember what she used to look like… we weren’t exactly close back then. Honestly, I have no idea what I’d even say to her.”

“Fair enough.”

Zhongli nodded in agreement.
