Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [225]

After the courier left, Gold returned with a package in his arms.

“What is it?” Silver asked, eyeing the box with curiosity.

“No idea. The sender was listed as Professor Elm…” Gold scratched his head, puzzled.

He opened the package, revealing a smaller, silver case inside.

He flipped it open—

Inside was… an egg.

Gold and Silver both stared in confusion.

Especially Gold—he had no idea why Professor Elm would send him an egg of all things.

August, however, recognized it at once.

That’s a Togepi Egg, isn’t it?

So after everything, the Togepi Egg Professor Elm originally entrusted to Gold in the main timeline… had, through some strange twist of fate, still ended up in his hands.

Speaking of Togepi… August suddenly remembered the one he’d asked Lance about—he still hadn’t heard back. Last time they spoke, Lance said he’d made contact, but there hadn’t been an update since.

At that moment, Mew and Celebi floated over to see what the commotion was about. Curious, Celebi poked the egg gently.

A soft green glow enveloped the shell, and August noticed a subtle but distinct pulse of life surge from within.

Togepi’s life force had grown slightly stronger.

Meanwhile, Gold was rubbing his chin, puzzled.

“Why would Professor Elm send me a Togepi Egg?”

Silver was also one of Elm’s recognized beginner trainers. Why wasn’t it sent to him?

Just as they were wondering, Silver pulled an envelope from the bottom of the box.

After a quick glance, he passed it to Gold. “It’s written here—Professor Elm thinks the egg will hatch faster if it’s with you.”

Well… that was spot on.

Elm had always been good at reading people.

Gold’s nickname in some circles was the Hatchling Whisperer—he really did have a knack for hatching Pokémon.

Although…

Whenever August thought about Togepi, he couldn’t help but recall the problem child version from the original story—Gold’s Togepi, infamous for mastering poker, billiards, dice… practically every vice imaginable.

It was true that every Pokémon Gold hatched tended to have… colorful personalities.

As Gold’s superior, August felt it was his duty to ensure this Togepi had a better environment while growing up.

So—

“For the rest of our training, you’ll carry the egg with you at all times,” August said, clapping Gold on the shoulder.

With that kind of constant exposure, maybe Togepi wouldn’t end up as… eccentric as before.

“Wha—huh?” Gold looked completely blindsided.

...

“Ambi, [Fury Swipes]!

“Mareep, [Thunder Wave]!”

Bzzzzt—!

A burst of electricity crackled across the battlefield, paralyzing Ambipom and dropping it flat on the ground.

“Ambi!”

Gold rushed forward, spraying paralyze heal until Ambipom could move again.

August, gently stroking Mareep's head, turned and asked, “Do you know why you lost?”

“Why?” Gold blinked, clearly trying to figure it out. His Ambipom and August’s Mareep were evenly matched in power—so why did he still lose?

“You ignored too many details,” August replied calmly.

To put it nicely, Gold’s battle style was bold. Less kindly? Reckless.

His overall strategy wasn’t bad—but he missed all the little cues.

Like how Mareep’s tail bulb glowed faintly before releasing [Thunder Wave], or the tiny sparks building up in its wool—subtle signs the move was coming.

If Gold had noticed that, he could’ve used Swift from a distance instead of closing in with Fury Swipes. The outcome would’ve been completely different.

Gold fell into thought, clearly taking the advice seriously.

He stepped aside—and now it was Gary’s turn.

“Alright, August, send out whatever you’ve got! As long as it’s not Mewtwo, Gardevoir, or Eevee—I’ll win this one!” Gary declared, full of swagger.

“I feel like I’ve heard that before…” August muttered.

“Just admit I’m right!” Gary said confidently. He’d been training hard. Even August’s Salamence wouldn’t be a problem now.

August didn’t argue. He just sighed.

“Gary… your biggest issue is that you’re way too overconfident.”

So to fix that—

He waved a hand. Mew appeared on the field, twirling midair with a playful giggle.

Gary’s eyes went wide. “You—! I—!”

What followed could only be described as annihilation.

Even when Gary sent out his ace, Arcanine, it didn’t last a single turn before Mew smacked it into the floor.

“Pfft—”

Watching Gary’s devastated expression, Mew covered its mouth, laughing quietly.

August gently ushered the dazed Gary aside, hoping he’d reflect on the experience.

Next up was Silver.

Compared to Gold, Silver was much calmer—but he also lacked battle experience. That couldn’t be fixed overnight. It would take time.

As for Ash…

Given how weak his foundation was, he was still buried in intensive lessons with Indeedee, trying to cram all the basic Pokémon knowledge he’d skipped before.

Training went on for more than ten days.

Everyone improved significantly.

August even helped Ash correct a major flaw in how he issued commands.

...

Looking around at the group, August finally said, “Alright. That’s it. Special training is over.”

The announcement was met with audible relief—even from Silver.

Being yanked out of bed at 6 a.m. by Indeedee, training all the way until 8 p.m. with only meal breaks… that kind of life?

No one wanted to keep doing that.

It’s over. Finally over!

Of course, they’d poured their sweat into it—and the gains were undeniable.

Even Ash, who started out weakest, was now at a level where, if he got a rematch with the version of Gary from ten days ago, his Charizard might not win all three rounds—but taking out two of Gary’s Pokémon? Absolutely possible.

“Pika-pika~!”

Pikachu gave a very human sigh of relief, looking utterly relaxed.

After letting the group disperse to rest, August headed back inside.

The reason he’d wrapped things up so quickly?

He’d just received a message from headquarters.

[August, things in Hoenn aren’t looking good. We may need you to lead a team over there soon.]

August frowned.

Why was Hoenn suddenly his problem?

Don’t tell me the local division there got wiped out too… like Kanto once did?
