Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [231]

Just when she thought she’d acted without a trace, a voice suddenly sounded in her ear:

“What are you doing?”

Only then did Sabrina realize that August had been watching her—who knew how long he'd been standing there?

Her body stiffened for an instant. But having once been an executive of Team Rocket, she quickly recovered.

Feigning confusion, Sabrina asked, “What’s wrong?”

August chuckled at her act but didn’t press further.

Down in the arena, a Trainer from Vermilion City was commanding his Gyarados, who had just knocked out the opposing Magmar, securing a decisive victory.

When August shifted his gaze toward the match, Sabrina let out a quiet sigh of relief. She thought she’d successfully fooled him.

But just then, August turned to Cynthia and said casually, “Would you like to come visit our Kanto branch sometime?”

“Won’t that be a bother?” Cynthia asked, pulling her gaze back from the battlefield, her tone uncertain.

In her impression, the International Police was a highly secretive organization. The agents she’d encountered in Sinnoh were notoriously mysterious.

“It’s no trouble...” August smiled, tapping the side of his head. “Everything classified is up here.”

The truth was, the Kanto branch had been rebuilt entirely around him.

If there was any "secret" worth guarding, he himself was the biggest one.

Besides, the official location of the League’s headquarters hadn’t been the true center of operations for a long time now...

Watching August and Cynthia rise to leave, Sabrina clenched her fists.

He’d taken the initiative after realizing she’d contacted Blue? That was downright devious!

She shot a message to Blue, telling her to stay put in the office, then quickly followed after them.

League Headquarters Building

When August and the others returned to the department’s offices, they were greeted by the chaotic sight of Gold chasing a Togepi around the room in a frenzy.

“Don’t touch that!”

“You can’t pull that wire! Indeedee, grab it!”

“For the love of Arceus, stop breaking stuff! If the boss comes back and sees this, he’s going to kill me!”

Gold looked like he was on the verge of a breakdown.

Which, to be fair, he kind of was.

He’d just advanced in the preliminaries today and was in high spirits after his victory.

He’d come home intending to reward himself with a bit of game time—just relax a little.

But what he hadn’t expected was that the Togepi egg Professor Elm had entrusted to him would hatch while he was gone.

Now, hatching a Pokémon was supposed to be a happy event. But no one told him this Togepi would be this lively.

It had barely cracked out of the egg before it was causing mayhem all over the room, turning the place upside down.

Based on the horror stories his senior Gary had once shared, once the boss got back and saw this disaster... yeah, he was definitely going to die.

Right then, the front door swung open.

Gold turned toward it, going stiff as a board.

Standing at the entrance was none other than the boss, accompanied by a group of people, looking thoroughly bewildered.

“What happened here?” Gary couldn’t help asking.

It looked like... the aftermath of a raid? Had someone broken in?

Sabrina, meanwhile, glanced around but didn’t see any sign of Blue.

Cynthia turned to August, brows furrowed. “Is that one of your subordinates too?”

She couldn’t help but wonder. He didn’t exactly scream “professional”... definitely didn’t match her image of an International Police agent.

Ten Minutes Later

August now had a rough grasp of the situation, watching as Gold bowed at a perfect ninety-degree angle, hands pressed together and raised above his head in a sincere apology. Beside him, the Togepi—Togetaro—looked totally unrepentant.

So basically, Gold’s Togepi had just hatched. And it was a problem Togepi.

To avoid exactly this kind of situation, August had given Gold strict instructions the moment he received the egg—told him to set a good example, to behave himself so the Togepi would follow suit.

Clearly, that had backfired.

This Togepi was even more of a delinquent than the one in the original storyline—the one that played cards, shot pool, and gambled right out of the egg.

And this one wasn’t weak either. Just moments ago, Sabrina had tried to grab it with her psychic powers and almost let it escape because she let her guard down.

Cynthia now studied Gold’s Togepi with curiosity. With her experienced eye, she could tell—it was every bit as exceptional as the one she’d gifted to August.

Is this the boy’s hidden talent? she wondered.

“It’s fine. No big deal...” August waved a hand, signaling Gold not to stress.

So what if the room was a mess and a few server cables got yanked out? Nothing irreplaceable.

Gold visibly relaxed.

So the boss isn’t nearly as scary as Gary made him out to be...

Behind August, Gary’s expression was full of disbelief.

You were never this forgiving with me...!

Ignoring his gaze, August glanced around the room again. Still no sign of Blue.

“Where’s Blue?” he asked.

“Blue? She wasn’t here when I got back...” Gold answered honestly.

Just as August was pulling out his phone to call her, the door opened again.

This time it was Blue herself, standing in the doorway with a Blastoise loaded down with shopping bags.

She blinked at the scene inside, her expression mirroring August’s from earlier—utterly dumbfounded.

“What happened here?”

...

Once she got the gist of what had happened, Blue felt a chill of relief. Thankfully, she’d saved and backed up all the data she’d organized before going out to shop.

If she hadn’t, days of work might have gone up in smoke.

Then her gaze landed on the new face in the room.

“Miss Cynthia, Sinnoh’s Champion?”

She remembered August and Sabrina mentioning they were going to pick her up earlier.

“Nice to meet you,” Cynthia said with a gentle smile.

The two shook hands warmly, leaving Sabrina watching in a daze.

Why does it feel like... I’ve become the outsider here?

Once their greetings wrapped up, August turned to Cynthia with an apologetic look. “I’d meant to give you a proper tour of our department, but with everything that’s happened...”

“It’s alright,” Cynthia smiled lightly, her gaze drifting to the unruly Togepi. “This little one is quite the character.”

Hearing that, August fell silent, lost in thought. Given the current state of the place, a tour was clearly off the table.

But he couldn’t just let her visit go to waste, either...

As he considered what to do, Cynthia suddenly spoke up.

“I noticed earlier—you have a battle arena here, don’t you?”

She looked at him with bright, eager eyes.

“If you don’t mind, why don’t we have a Pokémon battle?”

She’d already heard from Lance and Agatha about August’s exploits—defeating Giovanni, arresting Pryce...

She was genuinely curious about his strength.

As soon as she said it, both Gary and Gold turned toward August, their faces lighting up with anticipation.

They’d both been dying to know—between August and Sinnoh’s Champion Cynthia, who was stronger?
